What’s the best distro for a newbie to start with if I want to build an old-school 7.6–7.72 setup now, but still have an easy time switching to a different distro later on?

When it comes to older versions, I think Nekiro's downgrade 7.72, Sarah Wesker's distro based on it, is the best starting ground. There may be a few that says different, but it's all to take into consideration. Myself would select Sarah's engine since it's a bit more updated, on the other hand other might recommend different bases.

The violet Project, as I've heard is a nice base, but I am not aware of it being open source. So I'll not offer this later on unless I get permission to do so.
