I think that otland should be more pressing about rep and things like that. All I see now is people who have 1000's of post because of spam and super high rep because they rep each other constantly. I think that rep should be converted into a number value and when you rep it only gives a set amount based on how many posts you have or how much rep you have yourself. I am a member on another forum and giving rep without a reason or even asking for rep at all is a reason to give someone negative rep.

-I think that rep should be given a number instead of image.
-Taking rep should be allowed.
-Asking for rep is against the rules.
-Everyone can see your rep and the reason it was given.
-Revenge rep should be allowed.
-You should only be able to rep each person one time.
-You should be able to edit the rep that you have already given to make it -, +, or neutral.

These things would give rep meaning as to who are trusted and well defined members of our community.

The other issue I wanted to request a change for is spam. When I go in the forum games section all I see is spam and everyone who is there spamming has a thousand posts or more and I think that's bull shit. All they do is spam and I don't think they should get a post count for it. I think that when you post in the forum games section you should be given no posts.

Last of all...
Why do mods not really moderate that much? The forum is full of spammers and people who post low quality or completely off topic. I think that it should be handled with more force to stop people from thinking they can just spam off topic to get posts. I also think the rules on flaming should be changed. It's off putting and completely unnescasary so why should we allow it? I'm not saying I am not a flamer but I still think it should be stopped or at least slightly challenged.

Maybe this will show how bad rep abuse is.

But honestly, are the people who abuse the system causing really that much harm? It's a green bar right under your post count. If someone finds it important, then let them spend hours on begging for reputes. Others will not find any point in wasting time on such an unimportant thing and will rather do what they came on Otland for.
It's purely a matter of choice and in my opinion, should be left as it is.

But you can't force people to get the meaning out of it. If they simply want to use the thing in a way they did it up until now, there ain't much point of changing it, unless it's causing harm (and in this case, really, nobody is being seriously affected by it). Besides, people have the tendency to compete - whether it is in something important to everybody, or something that nobody pays attention to. Reputation system is also one of the things allowing certain people to compete and therefore keeping them on the forum. It's all about frequency without which Otland would most certainly die off. Of course reps are not the only thing that keeps the forum going, but if they were to be removed, the number of users would also significantly decrease.

Read my post one more time, then think about what you have just said and then post a reply. I think I've made it quite clear, that it's just one of the factors, but it is a significant one (probably as significant as the post count). Trust me, a great deal of people visit forums just to show themselves off and getting a huge number of reputes or a massive postcount are two of those ways.

There is one ex-supported fansite, which used to have a very popular forum (300 users online + guests) and after removing the postcount system along with the reputation system has ended up with about 40-50 users online at a time (and that's max). If a portal which is so popular and constantly modernized ends up losing 70-80% of its users because of removing these features, I don't think it's a very good idea. Of course those who are left over are the people who are geniuely interested in developing the forum itself and the quality of information has risen, but the popularity has drastically decreased and that's why the whole idea is slowly dying off.
Just before you come up with other premature conclusions: I am not saying that the same thing will happen to OTLand, but it might end up being a change that brings us more harm than good.

Why don't you go back to my post and reread? I never said to take it out. I said if it's going to be abused then why have it? Which is me saying in an indirect way that it should be fixed because it's supposed to mean something.
 
We already got Rep Disable feature. I think that's enough for God's Sake. If others want to hunt rep they can't be stopped, I mean you expect MODs to ban all them or smth? Really, you are just overreacting about rep here.

But we that got over 4k posts should get some rules, becasue we could abuse the rep system...

If i give you one rep @thread starter, you will probably edit your thread and type close please...

I could easy make someone that aint even in the first page in OtLand - Members List to top 10+...
 
That made no sense at all.
When someone makes a suggestion it's not for rep or to be better known.
It's called helping the community and trying to make it better.
