Suggestion About "copyright" @ Advertisement board

Dear OTLand,

Due to I think OTLand is one of the biggest possibility to get players I invested in a really great ad, which was made by Winnerandy, requested by me and paid by me.

I never even thought about people that would copy it since I thought that mods would help me out to remove/delete/edit the copiers threads. But they didn't.

So now I'm here without any special thread since a lot of other people just ripped it of and I can't do anything.

Just asking why you ain't releasing your projects then? Example Quest OTs and Heroland?

I'm giving away my stuff when I'm not using them anymore, such as templates, maps and scripts. But as long as I use them and paid for them I think It's my chose if other shall be able to use it or not.

The copyright discussion takes place after something is released and does not touch whether something should be released or not.

First of all, your new to this forum why are you even here and discussing about it? And I've already said why I'm a bit angry and that's because I've invested in a thread design which I wanted to be unique, and then people just coping it without asking me. Which removes my "uniqueness"

You can't release something anywhere on the internet and expect it to be completely safe from copying. Not even on a forum, it's ridiculous. And where should you draw the line? An advertisement thread layout is often pretty similar to another even if there was no copying going on.

Do you know why people is starting to make these "copyrights" in Otland? Because the members nowdays in Otland don't care a shit and copy everything they see and rip it. And therefore, people are forced to put the copyright so they can't get "stolen". Also, I don't think someone would put copyright if the owner did not pay for the design or what ever he bought. If it was for free, then it would be okey to take that idéa/design unless they ask for permission.

And if you have seen it or not, people protect their mapping showoff by writing their name on the picture as a copyright,

There's a difference between showing off and releasing. Even though there's a watermark on the image (it's not a copyright, it's a watermark) people could still copy what they're seeing. When you release something on a forum like OTLand then you should expect to see your work copied, redistributed and edited to fit people's needs. EvoXtreme gave the right to the rest of the users to copy that thread when he posted it. It's like releasing something, he "released" a thread. Anyway, I'm sure that if someone wants to play on his server he will firstly check the server's information and features and then launch his IP changer. People barely pay attention on how the advertisement thread looks like. This is just eye candy.

You can't force someone to release his work claiming that he has to since this is a forum based on an open-source game emulator. I think it's stupid to pay for a thread design while you can improvise and make your own good-looking one. It was just a pointless investment in my opinion.

Sorry, but we won't enforce any rules that allows users to copyright specific sequences of our BB-code. You can copyright art though, but only if it's yours, so if you make the first whole post as an image and the image is entirely made by you (or people who grant you the right to claim copyright over it) then you can report others for copying if they are copying that image.
