Hello,
I would like to ask, if otclient is legal to create a server with it
And host it, or still forbidden cuz of violating cips copyright?

If it is legal, thats an awesome step, and I am gonna start working immidiatly :)

Using OTClient is completely legal, the only thing that we're using that we shouldnt is the Spr/Dat

When u are using the Spr/Dat from an other game, without the approval of the owners it isnt legal to host it ofcourse.
and if cipsoft wanted they could track down all the ots and press charges.

but the otcommunity has become a part of tibia imo, more players playing ots than playing real tibia
its also a kind of advertisement for the real thing, people who started playing ots who want to play real tibiaa will start playing tibia.
So thats why cipsoft doenst do anything against ots because its a kind of advertising, but sometimes you see people getting mails from cipsoft

So to answer your question: no it isnt legal to host it :p

Well, you can run a server all of the time since you don't use any of cip's files. - The players, however, do use cip's files. Using otclient you still use spr/dat, without otclient you use their whole client.

Okay.. So I prolly wont use it :/

So, are you saying that you will use Tibia Client + spr/dat that is copyrighted by Cipsoft instead? That doesn't make much sense.

I read somewhere they purchased copyrights and patents for their sprites back when 7.6 was online (or somewhere around that time - when it was reaching 60,000+ players).

Ever since, new stuff has been added, and the newer clients' sprites' probably aren't copyrighted. AFAIK (in the USA), you have to keep this stuff updated and it costs a lot of money for businesses to do so...maybe they cheapened out and use the words "Copyright" to scare off people. I've always been curious as to why they never expanded to the United States, and I think it has something to do with our copyright laws - among other things. If your server has thousands of players, you may be confronted by them. If not, you're fine.

Don't worry about anything. If you're not worth pursuing, you won't be pursued - simple as that.

I don't think you understood what we are talking about.
It has nothing to do with otclient.
Offering otclient as a download for your server is much better than using Cip's own client.

like i said, using OTClient itself is completely legal, using it with the sprites that CIP provides is what is illegal, if you have a spr that doesn't have any sprites used by Cipsoft, then you are pretty much 100% legit

Aah okay :)
