Actually in football history there was many cases that ill/crancky people become biggest stars.

For example Garrincha. Brasilian player who had one leg shorter. He was actually a cripple. When he came to the first training whole team laugh at him. But when he get the ball he pass along entire team and score a goal. He is called one of greatest "jugadors" in history. He was perfect dribbler. He won world Cup twice. He turned his weakness into strenght.

Also it's kinda war game. UEFA Euro / Copa America or World Cup fascinate people from different regions, different countries, different cultures, different time zones. And every nation feels that connection between those 11 boys fighting on the pitch who represents their commonwealth.



Furthermore Football is beautiful quick and smarty game. Where weaker poorer team always can win with the stronger one. Also on the top level it's very difficult and demanding. Like in no any other game players actually uses their legs/feets to move the ball around. They can use any other part of a body except arms/hands. It requires something more than brutal strenght and speed or your physiqual apperence. In other sports like rugby or american football you don't need that. If you are powerful and quick it's enough. Here You actually gotta train more. You gotta exercise with and without the ball. You gotta be swift/strong/tough and also smart/cunning plus ball can't disturb You in the game.

In Football you actually can do anything You want. If You are central midfielder You can direct a game how you want. If You are goally You can save your team in crisis situation. And if You are forward You can score a key goal at 93' extra time. That feeling is better than sex.

Also to all fellows who are saying that football today reminds them of theatre. Haha that's ridiculous. You gotta know that after every match for example in English Premier League most of players run in the game above 12km and some even 15km. Name another sport where effort and pain is on similar level. Also in football every even small tackle fracture tibia-bones of players. After every game the got contusions and bone cracks. Taking painkillers and use tones of ointment to bruises.

Football is something more than sport. It's unpredictable. It can make a hero from a total looser. It can bring tears or joy. It's simple and brilliant. You can play anywhere. No need for an expensive equipment. Just ball and provisional goals and field. Just go out and play...

Soccer (association football, if you wish to consider), is indeed an international sport, but on what definition?
What makes you say baseball is not an international sport? If we're talking US-invented sports, baseball and basketball are popular sports, globally.

American football and rugby don't need speed, endurance, and physical appearance? You're blindly ignorant. There's nothing more to add.
 
It's all a matter of opinion, 'best' sports, 'best' religions, and so on and so forth will always be merely an opinion.

I actually meant by this that in sports like rugby, american football and also basketball your physical apperance, how big, how quick, how strong You are determines how good You are. You can't deny that those games aren't based on this. Football actually requires something more. You can have lack of some of those features. For example You can be a little slower and less agile than other players but still be amazing player f.e. Zinedine Zidane. Because Football requires something more than brutal strenght and muscles.
Football it's that kind of sport where one player, even the smallest/slowest/weakest on the pitch can change the game. Because Football it's not all about physiqs.

Also another very important thing. Sport I am talking about it's Football not as You call it soccer or association football. People worldwide doesn't say to eachother 'Let's go watch some football association.' It would sound rather grotesquely. They say 'Let's watch some football'. It's not their fault that You called your game also - football. But please because of that You can't force 3 200 000 000 people all around the world to change name of the sport.(that's how many watched previous World Cup in RPA)

I'm from England and married to an American, and this suject always drives nerves when it comes up in topic between me and other Americans. I have had multiple arguements like the one that is going on now lol. Evan is absolutely correct when he says football is a game played on feet, even though I regularly use this as a comeback because not many people know it lol. I adore football and watch it every weekend, I did use to watch "American" Football but I cannot stand the stop start nature of it, I do normally watch the superbowl however if I can. I'd much rather watch a free flowing game of football because thats my favourite sport.

People who say there is no skill in football are talking shit, people can say its boring but to say there is no skills is total rubbish, there is skill in all sport thats why not every person can play it... I'm sure even the fat guy protecting the QB in amerian football has to have some sort of skill other then eating too much? :p

But yes everyone will defend their sport to the death so it will be an endless areguement, like captain obvious said on another page everyone has their own opinion.
 
Ye I get you mate. But the question was why is the football most popular sport. Not do you like other sports more than football or what sport do you prefer. There is a problem with reading and understanding. (you don't have it but few may have)

Plus there is a skill in football like in any other team sport. I could say Football = 70% skill + 30% strenght/stamina/speed
 
Well I guess I didnt answer that, but obviosuly it has been around for ages, you don't need much to start playing football - Like you said most of the greats have started out very poor, you just need a single ball to get the skills... can use jumpers as goal posts!!! This is one of the reasons why Brazil churn out so many skillful players, they just get ahold of an old ball and play all day long with other kids. I duno its a hard question to answer I guess
 
Ye man you have 100% right. It's kinda tricky question. Actually I love how football developed trough those years. I like that it's also a physiqal sport and how aligned and equal teams can be. Just look at few matches on Barclays Premier League which is in my opinion the best, the quickest, the most amazing football league. The team from the bottom of the table can win with Chelsea or Man U. I lost some bankrolls cause of how pawky it can be. But thats why I love it.

Because Football (Soccer) is played with your feet and a ball. Unlike Football (NFL) which should be named Handegg, because its mainly with your hands and a leather egg looking thing.

Hockey is the best though, sorry peoples to disappoint.
