LUA Scripting Contest

Resources mostly. You are working with TFS only and can't use custom sprites or anything (not even OTC). You are going to be spamming magic/distance effects and items (creating and removing if you are making dynamic minigame). It's like trying to make a snake game in ASCII. There is NOTHING within contest rules that could be made and actually shows good (at least) Lua skill. This is not about Lua scripting skill, this is about who makes the most out of TFS limits.
yh, now move on :p
btw sad you are not joining

Taking few weeks off from Lua, among other reasons.
But hey, at least others have higher chances of winning :D

Okay so how would you like us to approach this the next time? We are open to feedback ☺️ Ofc we try our best but its hard to get it fair and balanced for everyone the first go 🤓
Nothing, you can't do anything more to make it fair. There is no way to make something that is supposed to judge your skill and make it fair.

Lets script some minigames for OPEN source community with private gits. interesting... what a useless thread that is going completely backwards to what this community is supposed to be and do.

Probably so other competitors won't steal/use your patterns. They can be published after contest is over. Calm the fuck down.

I would join, but I don't care
And that makes two of us. High five.

This contest is way too limited to show proper skills.
Perhaps your comments here tell a better story of how you choose to limit yourself. Loosen up a bit, look at it from outside of your own little box. Having limitations is the only way to show skill.

This is a fantastic idea and unfortunately we are reminded again how toxic otland is.

From my point of view this looks to be more about encouraging people to make scripts and having them reviewed publicly so everyone can learn and give some momentum to scripting. It's not about going absolutely mental and showing everyone how supremely good daddy oen69420 is at otc modules, or anyone with their preferred tools.

This event is more than anything to inspire us to create fun events for the community, although it seems that there is only one winner, in reality all otland users are winning, since they will have more content for their servers for free

Talking about complexity in tfs-lua doesn't make much sense, since it was created in a way that is easy for everyone, so anyone could create a complex system with spaghetti code or fancy code, anyway what matters is that it works correctly and is intended to be used on a server in production

I think the rules should be less specific and just mention something like:
  • Creativity
  • Uniqueness
  • Code compatible with TFS 1.3 latest version
  • Extra details, whatever you want to add as long as it complies with the previous rules
Btw, I do want to participate and as soon as I get some time I will publish something about it

No, no. It's not the only way to show skill, it's the worst way to show skill. If you take 2 artists, give them both a canvas, 1 will get only a pencil while the other brush and a paint pallet, it's obvious who will show more skill. Ofc there are beautiful sketches done with just a pencil but it's obvious how much of a gap in final product these 2 artists would show.

So if I'm able to show my true skills by making something way more advanced and creative, I can't? Because I'm too good at it? You are limiting my skills, how is this a freaking SKILL contest?

supremely good daddy oen69420 is at otc modules
OTC modules are still Lua ffs, I thought that's what this contest is about.

This is a fantastic idea and unfortunately we are reminded again how toxic otland is.
Oh no! Anyway...

Once again, this contest is not about Lua skill, it's about creativity.

P.S. It's so hot when you call me daddy.

What are you even trying to argue here?

Your example is flawed. The contest is giving everyone the same tools.
Both artists are given a pencil, and the contest is disallowing other instruments.

Arguing that your skills with a paintbrush are being limited because the contest only allows a pencil is pointless.
We aren't evaluating your skills with the paintbrush. We want to see who the best artist is, with that pencil.

Exactly! This is not about general Lua skills! This is about being creative with TFS and getting the best out of it considering all the limits. That's what is pissing me off so much, you can't show your TRUE skills here. It's called "Lua contest" when it should be called "TFS scripting contest". I'm not arguing here about anything, people are trying to kill me because I stated my opinion about this contest, that's all. Those losers calling me "kid" on PM (@MrVilhelm) because I'm not agreeing with them is just bonus laughter.

I was convinced to write something for this contest, but I hate github, so I'll just post it to this thread instead. lol

The whole git thing is to make it more fair for each contestant by not having insight to what everyone else is working on but if you want to give up on this it is fine with me but you cannot complain about the consequences of this decision later.

Matters not to me.
I'm just here to show people some wiggles.
