For you guys, which protocol is better? 7x, 8x, 10x or 12x? and which source?

I was thinking in start to develop a new custom server, but i don't really know for which version..
7x, 8x, 10x, 12x or based on that, which sources i should choose.. if anyone can give me light i'll be thankfull!

Anyway thanks by now! :)

What about doing a research instead of coming here and asking stupid questions? Browse the forum and see what people like and what is being developed, gl :)

@Peonso Thanks, i gonna do exactly that!

And about @Nekiro why you don't stop to answer in posts if you don't have nothing to say about instead been stupid with people in the first day of the year? Search the forum about stuffs that you want to see and then reply!

Just do what i do, if i can't help, i don't answer! You should do the same, your life is gonna be better! :)

There is really 2 ways about making a server. Either A) You envision a server that you would play and create it. or B) Create a server that the community needs and/or wants. As for the distribution, you should pick one after you decided what kind of server you want to create. That way you know which distribution has the features right for your server.

Thanks @Fablow , i think i'll go with A, i gonna write exactly what i want to do and what i want in the server and then i gonna start looking again! Thank you so much! <3

look dude, in my opinion im using 8.6 and its the bigggest numbers of server at otservlist.org
for me it still got elfbot, with easy 2d graphic and hard pvps,,
but first as they said u need to overall look to decide the best option for you
but as i said 8.6 the best for me as an OTs player and easist to develop (for me)
edit
if u n dont have any OTs experience {as it looks} its better to specify sth that u work on
{{meaning that u should learn PHP {for example} and that master learn is gonna make u able to make website and dev them for any server
so ppl will need you}} or learn CPP for example, become a professional with that so ppl will look for your work
othermean i mean to learn one thing and be perfect, better that get lost in all

Because it is a stupid question.... It's a broad and completely open ended question that entirely depends on your own preference.

Also, you're going to rewrite the entire server, with no knowledge of any of it? Lol, pfffft Lock this spam thread.

It's a long way to get a good and stable server, so choose wisely, you will need to spend thousands of hours in it.

My advice: Create a server you would like to play.

trolling the thread isnt it? :D

@Greimor about source, the lastest. And for the server, I think that they're getting more and more customized everyday, so the best way to go is to ask yourself, how much stuff I want in my server? and, how will I take advantage of it?

With this I mean, let's suppose I have a custom map.

If you go for 8.6, you have a list of features to provide to the players, for example:
  • Aproximatelly 12.000 registered items.
  • Aproximatelly 30 outfits

But if you go for Tibia 12
  • Aproximatelly 26.000 registered items.
  • Aproximatelly 50 outfits
  • Have mounts

Taking this in mind, ask yourself if would be better to spend time in doing 30 well done quests/missions for the 30 outfits with an 8.6 engine, or 50 quest/missions in addition to all the mount missions/quests for a Tibia 12 engine. This also apply to the items, I will make use of 26k items or 12k its good enough? Of course, this is not a determinant opinion but is a good point of view considering how much time you will spend working on the server. Regards!

While option A and B are certainly valid, I feel like these days it is easily forgotten that at least a third option (C) exists: Have fun, create a server, learn a lot along the way, fail, try again, fail better. Back when I started out with OT it was all about having fun and/or learning something new (soft skills; coding, management, linux..) along the way. Heck, my first server was some download&run server. At the end of the day I didn't care if there would be hundreds of players or just a couple. Will that server stay online for a year or a couple of weeks? No idea, but I'll make sure to have fun and learn something along the way. I got into windows-/linux server administration, bashscripts and coding at the age of 12. I dealt with PHPMyAdmin and dipped into XML/LUA scripts, Uniserver, XAMPP..all of which has trmendously helped in becoming the person I am and possessing the skills I have today. I am not saying it is not worth it doing research, just that the end result does not always have to be the perfect (or even close to perfect) server :) Some people will spend so much time thinking about doing this or that which ultimately leads them to just doing nothing at all.

At the end of the day, whether you do a lot of research or not, make sure you have fun in what you are doing. If the client you choose at one point seems to not work out, so be it. Try another. You won't start from zero but from experience ;)

Kind regards,
Damon

if I was going to make a server for fun/high rate I'd pick 8.6
if I was going to make a RPG server or anything like that, I'd pick 10.98 (and 12.x if any good engine was available, which is not the case 😁)

MY OPINION (not the TRUTH, just MY opinion):

That's some nice summary you got there. Might be worth to pin it (if that is possible?).
