Gauging Interest - Map Shape Templates

I've tried to keep it light on details to act as a template where the mapper can add mountains, etc. in the 'middle' of where the rivers are to give them an originating point, and fill in the biomes in a way that will make contextual sense when imported and placed against existing map. This is...

Gauging Interest - Map Shape Templates

I'm curious if anyone would be interested in map shapes to be used as a bit of a templated resource for building new worlds? I'm very bad at small details (I can't map out a mountain to save my life), but better working at a macro-level. If I were to create and publish a bunch of map shapes...

[Configuration] How to make a working Quest Log

Oh, for some reason I didn't think of that. That's a viable workaround. Guessing something like this should handle it, barring newly added quests for existing characters. function onLogin(player) local quests = {10001, 10002, 10003, 10004, 10005} if player:getLastLoginSaved() <= 0...

[Configuration] How to make a working Quest Log

It's a pity -1 doesn't work, so you could display available - but not yet taken quests - to the player and advise how to seek them out. Whilst not super immersive, I suppose it's better in some ways than having to go to a wiki that might tell your players too much and spoil the experience.

    Open Tibia Communities?

Not hard, but time consuming. If you're doing a big project with all custom monsters, etc. then the time commitment should pay off though. Out of the gate, you'll want to establish your Features (i.e. template elements) under Template Design, then start to configure your Templates. This is the...

    Open Tibia Communities?

@royalpala, @dami1310 - I put it in a spoiler for those interested, but so as to not hijack this thread - but I appreciate your comments. I might create a separate thread maintaining my progress and covering some of the workflow if there is interest :) It's not a matter of money, but thanks for...

    Open Tibia Communities?

@Extrodus - I used to run OpenTibia.net out of both of those domains, but archived the community late-2016 due to a drop in activity. I kept them around when the forum activity died off, but when the views started to drop too - there wasn't much point. We were averaging about 5k users per day...

    Path of Exile

It's more the stop/start type gameplay. I've been running maps for a decade now, was hoping to spend ~2/3 of my time in Delves.

    Path of Exile

Bit over this league. Pushing lower delves just requires soo many T15/16 maps. I know a lot of people just branch sideways at ~i83 monster level depths - but there isn't much challenge in that. I was hyped to keep pushing an 'unlimited' dungeon, akin to Torchlight or Diablo 3 and feel a bit...

    Quick, basic map generation

I don't have the file any more, it was just an example. You can generate a similiar landmass by copying my settings above and following the instructions though :)

Creativity - Post your mapping ideas

Probably a bit less of a direct mapping trick, but a good way to generate landmasses is to lean on other map generation tools and convert them to .otbm. Here is one of the processes I use. As a side-note, I'm thinking of creating a pack of landmasses (or 'map shapes') if there is any interest.

    Quick, basic map generation

Another alternative program to use to generate the base images is Amidst, which will display landmasses in-line with Minecraft world generation. This can use both an existing world seed (if you're a player, this is handy to reproduce your world in Minecraft), but otherwise as a random seed...

    Quick, basic map generation

Need to quickly spin up the framework for an island? There are many map generation tools available for use or download online. For this example, I have used this map generator. With some quick slider adjustments, I had created a landmass I was suitable with - now just a few final steps to get...

[Archived] "[Quick Showoff] Post your latest maps"

Ah, yep - that would be 4% then which is max :) I'm a bit hesitant to use systems like this. Some are janky and can be a bit buggy and/or a resource hog, but even with efficient scrips there is still maintenance overhead. This said, I'm not sure what I'd use in place other than spreading out...

[Archived] "[Quick Showoff] Post your latest maps"

Whilst I don't expect to have quite the same issue as you, as I'm building into an existing landmass so I can account for such issues, I still think free-foot travel will be an issue due to the sheer size of the world. To combat this, I'm planning on implementing a node-based travel system akin...

[Archived] "[Quick Showoff] Post your latest maps"

Wow, that'd take ages to explore! How do you handle conflict resolution for differing mapping styles? Do you only selectively pick bits that match, try to blend them in, or clean-up to suit?

[Archived] "[Quick Showoff] Post your latest maps"

As a bit of a side project, I'm stitching together a custom map using elements from a large pool of publicly available maps. It's an interesting project trying to keep it all coherent with a reasonable flow. Additionally, I am prone to duplication content (e.g. 2 of the desert/jungle islands...
