Hi All,

I am about to start working on upgrading my OTClient from using 32 pixel tiles to 128 pixel tiles.
And I am wondering what kind of graphics potential I would have compared to the normal tibia graphics.

If someone is willing, I'd like to see a normal 32x32 sprite upgraded to 128x128 and re-detailed.
Example would be, getting Leather Armor, then doing the same exact leather armor in 128x128 but adding in more detail that wasn't possible in the 32 pixel sprite.

I am not asking to hire a sprite artist... yet, I just think it would be interesting to see what new abilities the extra 96 pixels would give artists.

Is anyone up to the task?

Upgrading all sprites would take a lifetime from 32 to 64. But 128, daamn.! Start small like sprites from 7.x and add stuff later on that is not useful at the beginning. Just to get it up and running.

edit: Flies away*

You know opentibia only accept 32x alright? I think change only in client it's lost of time, because if you have a thing ( 128x128 ) in server it will be 32x32...

Hm... at 128x128, it's not really pixel art anymore. You'll need extremely good artists to make 128x128 sprites because it's about photoshop and good design, not pixel work.

Also, Tibia in 128x128 wouldn't really work. That would be 1920x1408 (15x11 sqm) for the game area... now add the menus, the chat, the inventory...

64x64 is feasible, but still harder than 32x32 for the artist.

128' would have a completely different concept. you might even want to start considering vectors.

32*4 is 128. It's so big the client would need to reduce size. If you want to increase quality, try to add a better way to the client to enlarge items and some effects that make it look better. But after all, it's a huge job and because of the number of items it sounds like hell of a long job.

Sprites no, but if you have something with 128x in server this occupy only 32x alright? If you change the size of sprites for 128x on look, in internal it's 32x... if you made one item with 128x, how you will look this item? it's this i say...

@As skorr says 128x it's no more pixel art, i think which digital paiting it's more better for this cause.

Ok guys,
The client ALREADY stretches the map from 480x352 to whatever your screen size allows.
If you want to test the ACTUAL resolution of tibia go into graphics options and check the box "Do not stretch or shrink map"

The difference in pixels going from 32x32 to 128x128 would make the ACTUAL resolution of the client now 1920x1408 (Most monitors would shrink it instead of stretch it)

Meaning you would get maximum 2d artistic freedom.
And. 128 pixels is still pixel art.

An Example would be Street Fighter, which used characters which are on average 100 pixels tall.

Zangief is 116x111.
And yes, these sprites still use all the rules of Pixel Art, you just have more freedom.

It's funny, soon as I suggested upgrading the pixels per tile on tibia, everyone pretends like I am committing some atrocity.

I will make a quick "test.spr" and make otclient draw the 128x128 sprites (which should take only a few minutes) and show how it looks in a week or two.
