What are you guys thoughts on addon systems?

Note: This is for a unique custom server, not a 10000x high rate server, as that does give an important context.

I prefer, as a developer, the system where players are required to go retrieve all the real tibia items to complete an addon, I find it makes for a strong economy and a way higher sense of achievement for players, however I also know that for many this is not as exciting, and they just want to spend 50k and get the addon. What are your guys thoughts?
 
of course real tibia system, is perfect. Maybe x2 items required since is a server easier than Tibia RL
 
Retrieving items, but it shouldn't be the same items like real tibia because everyone knows where to loot the items.
 
Best system is collecting addons for various tasks or getting them through quests. I also like when servers encourage you to actually get addons but I hate the bonus system, where you for example get +2 distance from assassin addons. The best sytem I've seen was in ascalon, where if you had 1 full outfit u got for example +20 speed then when u had 2 full outfits u would still get +20 speed but you also got another bonus. So the more outfits ur charcter had the better ur character became. That encouraged everyone to get as many full outfits as they could, even the bad ones.

I like the idea of going trough trouble and get rewarded with Addons.

I haven't played much of tibia, but when last year i played on TorgOT, there was an NPC who sold server best ammunation for whoever had assassin outfit.
It was quite interesting to see how player worked towards the addon and made money off it when they finally had the access.

I think that's the best addon use I have seen for now.

I like the "farming" addon system (collecting items blabla), and they should have utility bonuses based on the name of the addon instead of giving them stupid -op- stats (power, def, etc.)

Something what doesn't improve player in sraight forward way.

Good ideas, curious to hear more if anyone has them
 
Ahilphino said it best. It's nice when you have to work hard to get addons and make it so it's not the same way for every addon. If you can get all the addons just by collecting items than that's no fun...
It should be a mystery on how to get them. You should be able to get them from various things such as:

  • collecting items
  • special quests or missions
  • secret or hidden ways
  • etc...
The addons should also have bonus so players have a reason to get them. Servers that have it were if you have wizard addon you get this bonus, or if you have a warrior outfit you get this bonus, are stupid servers. With that system maybe someone wants to wear the warrior outfit, but the wizard outfit has better bonus so they can't wear what they want..

With the way Ascalon had it, it was perfect because it depended on the total amount of outfits you had and that's what you're bonus was based on. Because of that players were encouraged to try and get as many outfits as possible and it still let the players wear whatever they pleased.

What the bonus add is up to you. It all depends on the the type of server.. but honestly you can make the bonuses almost anything you want.
