@Iryont I know what you mean, however.
If you take a look at Classic WoW, you see that die hard fans are the most devoted and is the ones you want to keep happy as customers.
Because they're aren't hard to please and value their nostalgia more than others, also most of them are adults with jobs which means a 10$ donation isn't really anything to them.

Making custom content isn't bad, at all.
I enjoyed small bits and pieces of it, but when it shifted too greatly, that was when I decided to put my time elsewhere.
Personally I play OTs to get a trip down memory lane, otherwise I could just play RL Tibia.

On the point of Medivia having a lot of botters, sure. But there were still much more life then than it is now and that is due to the changes.
I've had that discussion with a close friend of mine that I play with and both our opinion on why we quit was that it strayed too much from what it was.

There isn't a game and/or OT in the world that doesn't have cheaters.
The only thing you can really do to reduce botting is make it as annoying as possible to bot.

Active GMs, IP Bans (MAC would be nice, don't know if its possible), Stamina/Soul system was good implementations.
Anti AFK scripts etc. (IP Bans are great, while they can spoof their IP, they still have to put more effort into it than it is to type "/b <charactername>")

Botters are lazy, make it hard to be lazy and keep at it.
The war against botters is a war of attrition.

Experienced GMs are the most valuable since they know a botter when they see one and can act on it.
They are the elite soldiers of the team, they should be used in great numbers.

There is a lot of oldschool veterans on these forums that are more than adequate for that.

Botters are only good for one thing, that is to increase the active player count which makes the server more appealing to serious players.
Retrocores is a good example, sure it may have a lot of botters, but the high player count intrigues me.
I never had much problem as a player with rune farms, it ment more stuff for me when I killed them.

The real problem was the aim botters and auto healers, they are the cancer of OT.
Players that lack skill and can't bother to learn just go get some temporary gratification is a mystery to me.
They more than likely suffer from forms of depression and crushing players with cheats is a way for them to validate their existance.

If economy getting out of control is an issue, then have planned resets.
People don't mind as long as it isn't sudden.

Diablo 3's Season system is a good example of working resets.
Even if the game is 💩 compared to D2.

I understand and I don't mind that at all. It's a choice of players and what they wish to play and whether they want something refreshing in a way or just nostalgic feelings. I honestly hope you and others will find yourself a Tibia 7.4 copy which will fit you well, but I cannot provide that myself, at least no longer. It's past for me at this point and I don't feel any nostalgic attraction myself to even think about something like that.

However, I find myself satisfied with Medivia and in general the work we do there. It's something different, so it makes us (developers) happy enough.

Creating content for the sake of baiting players into endless loop of fake grandeur ain't cool. What kept people engaged were possibilities of setting your own goals. Display rares in house with few MPA along with talons on top of blood herbs. Hosting events in guild houses. Hunting single bk spawn or pharaons for days. Making lootbags from guards weighting well over 100koz. Relentlessly hunting OF even when ur 200 like Bubble did. Top end guilds fighting for dominance over veno lair cause it was the most profitable spot and not so much over poi dls or warlocks cause it was overall waste and gold mattered more than levels. Having friends come visit u skilling while u been at it for weeks having collected bp dragon hams cause just chasing exp wasnt of upmost importance for them. Those were role models and how memories were imprinted so how did it end up so bad. Some devs let their imagination run too wild instead of retracing the steps and some decide to follow the wrong turn on a beaten path of Cips.

The classic ones:
If you are not up to serious nostalgic feelings pain-in-ass you can pickup Medivia.Online which is much easier but new content (more things to do) is well developed (I love it but of course it's a personal opinion).
If you like hardcore NOSTALGIC FEELINGS vanilla ultra slowbro super camping one monster making runes whole life gameplay, you can take-a-look on Tibiantis.Online

Customs:
If you not like old Tibia you should take a look on newcoming project RavenDawn Online which the assumptions as well as the gameplay seem to be serious (but this one is still in developing stage).

Anyway, it's already 2021, just look around and find something for your preferences. I never understand people who ask what to play. What you want to play should be up to you.
I also don't understand people who are nostalgic. Great as it used to be. It's nice that it used to be like that, but ffs now we don't have 10 years to cum on ultra slow 'how great it is' gameplay.
