I’m starting my small server project, and I built the entire map from absolute scratch (using several pieces available here on OTLand). I created some missions, including reinterpretations of a few from global Tibia, added short lore elements, and implemented mechanics for access to certain areas.


I’m making this small post here on the “Server Gala” mainly to see whether there are actual players around or if it’s mostly developers using the posts only for criticism. If the criticism is constructive, I’ll be grateful as well. Keep in mind that I’m just an enthusiast — everything I know and learned came from this forum.


The client version is 10.98, but I made several adjustments aiming to create a reinterpretation of Tibia’s best eras. You will find mechanics ranging from version 7.4 all the way to the more “interesting” modern features.
 
I had a very strange problem with Cloudflare that prevented me from accessing the site anymore. I had to acquire a new domain for everything to start working again... Just as a heads-up for everyone else: sadly the server allows using bots.
 
I thought the standard for posts on Otland was in English... that's why I wrote in English. But in the title there is the word "Brazil" and depending on the browser you use, you can use the automatic translator... But I made sure to create all quests in PT/ENG in NPC conversations... The downloads page has been fixed, thank you...

New City: Interfell

Bro you have to be kidding me, you've made a RPG style ot with a god damn bot build into the client? Is this a joke? You should be perma banning people on the very first bot related warning, not give them the bot.

Let me explain a few points about this…


1 - I removed the bot from the client, changed the RSA, encrypted the client, and did everything I could imagine to prevent bots. Still, there will always be people who manage to inject something or pay for an external bot…


I don’t have the resources to implement a professional anti-bot system, nor the technical knowledge required for that.


Because of this, players who don’t understand programming and can’t inject bots, or those who don’t even know paid bots exist, end up at a disadvantage. So I decided to allow bot usage for everyone — with moderation.


2 - Everything looks great when people say “the problem is the bot”… But during the period when the server had NO bots, there were barely any truly interested players. As soon as I enabled bot usage, people started showing up again, haha.


I’m sad that this doesn’t please you, but unfortunately I haven’t found a viable way to keep the server completely bot-free.


Whenever something actually effective and accessible to stop bots becomes available, I will gladly implement it.


But forcing normal players (who don’t use bots) to compete against advanced players (who do use bots) would only harm them. So I prefer to make the game more equal and fair for everyone.

You don't really need a professional anti-bot system. Like Paner said, if only you ban bots permanently as soon as you catch them and actually check players from time to time + listen to player reports, that should ensure botting simply won't be worth it.
 
Yes, I understand the cavebot issue, but I’m talking specifically about PVP. Anyone using a bot will have many advantages, and detecting it is extremely difficult…
 
Detecting combat bots is a bit more difficult, but still definitely doable without any advanced systems. For example you can track delays between every input a player makes and then check if there are some delays that look inhuman.

But even if tracking delays between inputs isn't something you're able to implement, disallowing just the AFK bots is much better than allowing all kinds of bots.
