OTClient Can I use some base real map, but change all the sprites to custom?

1) Yes, it's possible to do whatever you wish to do. To archive this, you can use an item editor/object editor for 8.0 clients.
2) You can swap out the images for your new ones and all of those id images will swap out onto that image you've swapped it to.

3) No, no one will do all of this for you. Get started and learn if that's your goal, download an item and object editor. Take your item files, dat file, spr file and get to work and see your results.

Either:
Use Photoshop, gimp or your preferred editing software for sprite editing. There's a lot, select your preferred method.
Or you can use AI to generate nice quality images, not always 100% aligned unless you've chosen one of the best ai generators and detailing your desired image(s) well enough for it to generate it.

If you have experience editing images, you can correct the images pixel by pixel.

The reason nothing like this exists is:
1) time
2) Money
3) Experience
4) Will to give it all away after all that hard work

And to correct this, Ai has come far. It's not perfect but it's at the stage where it's well enough to use fully for design. The best ones cost money, but free ones exists that are extremely well and perfect to use for 2d design.

great response, thank you, although - I thought (or rather hoped) it could be a bit easier - I mean, there are ready and free sprites pack (that includes everything the world is build with, like walls/floors etc). And... I don't really understand, what should I start with. Do you think, that I can just start mapping and later change the sprites? Or the opposite?

There are a bunch you can use, but nothing to replace everything with. Those packs are very small compared to what you would need for a real map.

Start mapping when you've replaced or do the opposite. Keep in mind that the tiles or items that looked one way before will no longer look that way afterwards. This goes without saying, but if you start mapping without chaining. It may require a lot of map changes afterwards.

A real map is a big project, even with normal sprites.
Think though what you want, and select that one. Me personally, would swap not all out, but the ones I'll use when mapping then map for a easier and "more convenient" result.

To me personally that is.

To swap out the files, it's .spr file for older clients, that is where the sprites or well, visual graphics lays. Swapping this out will swap out the looks of a game object.

A sprite is just graphics, to give it a name and such you'll need to edit .dat and items.xml file as well.

It's been a long time since I've done those changes, I am used to the new updated way of doing things on later clients. So If I forgot something, keep that in mind and be critical when reading or taking advice.

Good luck!
