Hello,

I’ve created Tibia servers on older versions before, and I wanted to try doing it again just for fun. Things seem a bit more complicated now. I’ve spent several hours setting up my first TFS server following this guide: The Forgotten Server 1.4, and I was planning to run it with Tibia 10.98.

Setting up the server itself was similar to before, but what I found extremely frustrating was configuring the client. Back in the day, all you needed was an IP changer and the Tibia client. From what I’ve read, now there seem to be two options:

  1. Download and set up the OTClient yourself, as shown here: OTClient GitHub.
  2. Download the Tibia client and modify its hex values, which is what I ended up doing.

Why has this process become so complex?
What exactly is the difference between these two types of clients, and is one clearly better than the other?
When was this changed and is this only for newer versions?

do not use official otc client, its outdated, use v8 old repo or v8 otacademy or otc mehah

otc vs normal tibia client, otc is open source, normal tibia client you have no access to source

Use only v8 otacademy and mehah. Mehah is better if you're intrested in new tibia (above 10.98), everything else my choice will be v8 ota but thats debatable and depends on personal needs and preferences.

It seems like most people are recommending either OTC Mehah or OTClientV8. I understand that both are open‑source, but I’m still trying to figure out the key differences between them. Does one offer more features or flexibility than the other?

I do have programming experience, but modifying the client wasn’t really an option in the past, so this whole area is pretty new to me. What kinds of features or systems can actually be customized or changed on the client side? I have seen a server have a built in bot in their client but what else is one able to achieve with choosing mehah or v8

It makes really no big difference if you use OTCv8 or OTC Mehah
OTC Mehah is still under development and has more features ( nothing that will make otcv8 useless tho )
Overall OTC Mehah is better

Im using OTCv8 as 95% of the server owner does
The bot u prob seen is known from OTCv8 but mehah also has it by default ( No clue if it's 100% working )

Cipsoft client with ip changer still works perfectly fine. Otland official ip changer, or even some of the others... there is no strict need to do it the "hex edit" way.

As many have told you, you don't want to use the old "official" otc anymore as it's severely outdated... unfortunately, you are getting involved at a really bad time, both the "modern day" otcs have had their maintainers announce that they are leaving the community this last month... Meaning, the maintainer Oen for otcv8 and the maintainer mehah for... mehah's aka otcr (redemption)... have both announced retirement from the community... so really, if you absolutely must have an "OTC" instead of a cipsoft client, I would absolutely still be recommending Mehah's aka OTCR, despite 504 (aka mehah) recommending you use otcv8. Sure, it might be the simplest to get started with, but if you were able to get tfs running (which I also wouldn't recommend using tfs 1.4 for 10.98, I would strongly recommend my own project, blacktek for that, but w/e, shameless plug), then you can very well handle getting OTCR running, and it's worth it.. because as for "differences" like you keep asking and most are not clarifying...

Otcv8 basically stopped serious development years ago, which means feature wise, otcr has everything otcv8 has to offer and more... performance wise, it's also shitting on the otcv8...

Flipside, otcv8 dominated as most popular for many years, and therefore most modules or additional resources you will find for otc's are going to be for otcv8, paid and free alike... mostly.. otcr MAY have a bit more freebies out there, possibly, but otcv8 definitely dominates on the paid front, by a long shot.

Both are performant enough for a game like tibia
Both have what would be needed and expected for 10.98
Neither have any serious "major bugs" of any concern (that I'm aware of)

If one had more bugs than the other though, it would be expected to be otcr, as, like I mentioned previously, it's been the one with a truly active and continous dev cycle going for the past few years, while otcv8 has mostly only gotten stability fixes in the same timeframe (I said mostly, oen, mostly).
