Force client update

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this. A way to force the client update. We use custom items and its a hassle to get everyone to download a new client each time an update comes out. Any ideas out there?

You can change RSA key to your Server preventing to Login without your RSA that only your custom client have.

But that wouldnt let anyone know that a new download is required, they would only know they simply cant log in right?
