Is it possible to have a function and script in the same place?

Ok... script is called as a "file" but script is called that way because it contains codes.
And all scripts has functions, otherwise, the script wont work.

Might need to explain what I mean.
Could I get
function="convince"/>
and
script="summon/undead legion.lua">
to work together. Because I have been looking for a way to limit my summons and so far there is no way or no one wants to tell me. But the convince function has a limit or 2 so I was wondering if there was a way to combine the two as the undead legion spell has no limit.
