Its time to define those games with a new mmo subgenre "tibialike" games how it was with soulslike becouse actually playing all those RA/Medivia etc. It doesnt matter that they looks different, You always feel like u playing Tibia
was tibia created using ultima assets and ultima private servers files as a base? if yes then yes lol. TFS was made as tibia private server project and tahts it, every server using tfs as a base is basically ots.
ur logic hit the roof, if u mod unreal tournament custom server u cant publish it as your own game no matter how modded it is. EvenLet me explain it to you - own engine, own client, own sprites, own world means that even if multiple games are using the same open source engine and client, if they have their own unique sprites and world, they are considered separate games.
For example, Ultima VII and Tibia both have a "2.5D perspective," but they are separate games with their own unique sprites and world. Similarly, Ravendawn, Bloodstone, Medivia, Zezania, and Phobos are all separate games with their own unique sprites and world.
While Rangers Arcani, PxG, and GLA are also separate games, they use some Tibia sprites.
Claiming that Ravendawn is an OTS is like saying that every game made using Unreal Engine is an Unreal Tournament Custom Server.
I'm sorry to break the news to you my friend:ur logic hit the roof, if u mod unreal tournament custom server u cant publish it as your own game no matter how modded it is. Even
Enderal: Forgotten Stories was published as a SKYRIM MOD, you can't just take some game files/private server game files, change things and tell its ur own game, no matter how you want to believe that. If its the case why any of these "games" as u said arent on steam? yep, cuz they are private servers.
said 400k users forum admin with 5 views per month kekw, ots gonna stay ots no matter what u change, go buy a BMW, change tires and tell everyone its your own car brand now, all cars have similar tech so yeaThat talk about engine is stupid and meaningless in the times when most of the gamedev industry decides to go with Unity or UE5 with many identical tech things inside, same as for the assets...
And what it has to do with the forum where Im co-admin lol? Is it an outburst of frustration or did you feel worse while writing the post?said 400k users forum admin with 5 views per month kekw, ots gonna stay ots no matter what u change, go buy a BMW, change tires and tell everyone its your own car brand now, all cars have similar tech so yea
The idea of a new mmo subgenre "tibialike" sounds reasonable, I think it's a good compromise. Its time to define those games with a new mmo subgenre "tibialike" games how it was with soulslike becouse actually playing all those RA/Medivia etc. It doesnt matter that they looks different, You always feel like u playing Tibia
The key difference between Zezenia and Ravendawn is that K-Zodron was one of the dev contributors of OTServer (the first and original project called OTServer, way back before TFS existed), and K-Zodron decide to create his own engine and client instead, fixing several flaws from OTServer engine which replicated Tibia, such as how you get "stuck" if you right click something while walking. If you walk in Zezenia you will see it is extremely smoother than walking in Tibia or any OTS/TFS/Whatever, because of Zezenia's engine having been written from the scratch literally. The idea of a new mmo subgenre "tibialike" sounds reasonable, I think it's a good compromise.
I don't know what drives people who don't want to admit at all costs that a game created based on OTS like Ravendawn or Zezenia, can be a new game.
I will say more - using the word "OTS" in relation to such a game isn't a matter of agreement, it is simply a mistake.
Words are there to have meaning, when reading that something is "an OTS" I expect a Tibia server with modifications - monsters from Tibia, a map from Tibia, a client like in Tibia and maybe some custom modifications, but that's only part of the overall content.
If someone says that Ravendawn (which from the player's perspective has nothing to do with Tibia except 2.5D perspective) is an OTS then he is simply misleading me.
In conclusion - Ravendawn isn't OTS. If you claim that Ravendawn is an OTS then you simply can't use the term "OTS" correctly.
It's funny how you mentioned a 'how you get "stuck" if you right click something while walking' as if this is a great fix haha it's literally 1 line of code (I actually checked it).The key difference between Zezenia and Ravendawn is that K-Zodron was one of the dev contributors of OTServer (the first and original project called OTServer, way back before TFS existed), and K-Zodron decide to create his own engine and client instead, fixing several flaws from OTServer engine which replicated Tibia, such as how you get "stuck" if you right click something while walking. Ravendawn is a SUPER HEAVY EDITED OT, as much as it doesn't seem like one, it is. Their engine is a heavy customized TFS and they use a heavy edited OTClient as their client, which is easy to find out when you explore their sources files. Nobody from Ravendawn coded a engine from scratch, the way K-Zodron did, for example.
