Well, I know for a fact Dumbledore didn't fight a Balrog + Gandalf has Shadowfax.

Also, think about it. What would happen if you put Dumbledore in Gandalf's shoes, remember what Dumbledor did in his seek of power, now, imagine him with the One Ring right infront of him, being offered to him by Frodo, Dumbledore wouldn't hesitate to have the Ring of Power in his own power.

Gandalf, he is just way more exciting than Dumbledore.
Also Gandalf appeared more in the movies than Dumbledore himself.
