It is easier to use otclient and a newer distro with old sprites.
Just take it as a tip, I wanted to do this project and I better stay with the 7.1, this one takes a lot more work than it seems

I know it's not exactly difficult. But, I think this goes for most players, installing stuff for too long gives me a headache.

it would be cool but sadly I don't think you'll see more than 10~ active players, so it's probably not worth the investment...
