mappers dafUQ?

To be honest, when I play a OT, I doesnt rlly care for details, since there r hunts, houses, quests etc... Thats enough :P

I can confirm that most players think like that too. I made an experiment with 15 players for about 2-3 years.
First I put an Evolutions map (Tibia 8.10). The mapping was horrible and there were some bugs.
->Result: They loved it.
->Reason: Fun and easy to train and compete with other players. Perfect map to chill with friends.
Then I tried putting a YurOts map (Tibia 8.50). It was an small but nice map. It wasn't open, but somewhat linear. The different roads outside any city always lead to a hunting spot.
->Result: They loved it.
->Reason: Easy to find a nice training spot. And there were a lot of houses in the city. Although they told me the only problem was a lack of quests.
Then I changed the map for a custom RPG one (Tibia 8.54). It was almost the size of the CipSoft map, but aside from that it had nothing to do with it (custom quests, cities, hunting grounds, etc).
->Result: They hate it.
->Reason: Too big. It takes too long to find a nice hunting spot.
->As a side note: They never traveled more than the second city, even though there were boats and magic carpets.
->In the player's words: "OTs should be fun, not hard or complex."
Finally I put an edited Evolutions map (Tibia 9.10). This time the mapping was fairly decent, I didn't found any bug.
->Result: They love it.
->Reason: Simple, but fun. Many hunting spots. Although 60% of them told me that the first Evolutions map was better and wanted me to put it back.

I agree with Neon, it is his hobby and he feels like doing it, same thing with me, I love scripting, I'd rather write one looong awesome script than one little shitty one.

It just feels good.

It's pretty much the thing you'd like to aim at.

For me it's very simple: if the players like it, it's alright. I just prefer having happy players over pretty much anything.
It's exactly why I don't waste time on the map for hours after hours: the players do not really care. So what if I copy-paste maps from otland or another source? The players do not care.

I do, however, like to script unique, optional stuff, for the server. Some players like it. The ones who do not like it can ignore it.

This thread just inspired me to continue my huge unique map that will take ages to finish.

Know why? Because it makes me feel good whenever I finish a good portion of it and I look from a zoomed out rme view and thinks: "Its fucking great!".
Players may care or they may not... I do care and I do it because I love to.
