We're happy to introduce Mercadia, a 7.7-inspired server with an 8.0 map. We are working to capture the classic play-style mechanics with more modern graphics and an improved late-game experience. We're building custom mechanics such as item upgrades and enchantments that will primarily be focused on higher levels, allowing for customization for those players who have invested a lot of time in their characters. Building a good community with a healthy economy and balanced vocations are our primary goals. We plan to launch the server toward the end of 2023.

We have just launched our first public test server to identify issues with the core server functionality, which will be followed by two future test phases to balance game mechanics and to test custom content and quests.

What's Cool About Mercadia?
While we are making sure to be loyal to the classic gameplay style, we know players are looking for new and interesting features. We are focusing our efforts on making the late-game progression more rewarding, without introducing game-breaking buffs that will unbalance the server. Item upgrades are hard to collect, and will balanced in such a way that we prevent overpowered items from flooding the server.

Crafting
We've introduced a crafting system that will allow players to get access to item upgrades. Players will need to collect creature products and rare items in order to craft upgrades. We hope that structuring the crafting system similar to how outfits are acquired in real Tibia will help promote an active economy and demand for players of all levels to be included in the economy's success.

Mining
We have also developed a mining system. Players will find crystal masses in random locations throughout the world, which can be mined to acquire materials for crafting certain item upgrades. Players of all levels will encounter crystals, and therefor all levels will be able to profit off of the mining economy. However, it will be difficult for low level players to acquire enough materials to upgrade their items, and given their rarity, upgrades will likely be saved for stronger equipment. We hope that ensuring rarity and difficulty in obtaining upgrades will improve balance and reward players who play long-term, while still including low levels in the process of collecting the materials and profiting off of them.

Loyalty Rewards
It's important to us to pay back players' loyalty with meaningful rewards. While we will have cosmetic offerings and premium accounts available in our shop, the only play-affecting bonuses will come from Loyalty Points that all players can access equally. Similar to real tibia, each day that a player logs in they will generate Loyalty Points which can be spent on bonuses such as experience boosts, runes, etc. We won't be offering any pay-to-win shop items, but we will be offering cosmetic options, construction agreements for house upgrades/customization, outfits, etc.

We know players have a lot of options when it comes to retro-style servers. We hope that what will set Mercadia apart will be nailing the mechanics to capture the fun but challenging gameplay while providing players with plenty of content to discover as they progress. For now, our test server is focused on finding all the bugs we can in the core server setup, while our next test servers will focus on balancing our custom additions to the game. We're dedicated to getting the details right and making sure that we are providing players with a great experience from day one.

Update #1: Test Phase One
Hello OTLand, we are back with our first update! We have been busy working with our first testers to work out where we still have bugs in the basic functionality of the server. More on that later.

Part One: THANK YOU!
For this first update, we just want to give a huge shout out to the whole OT community. We have gotten a ton of support from the OTLand forums, our first stop when trying to work out any issue. Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the years, the knowledge contained here is vast. The community's willingness to share knowledge is incredible. So THANK YOU!

Part Two: Special Thanks to Xikini
We have to give a special shout out to Xikini who has helped us with some really complex LUA issues. He is a genius and we have been lucky to get his help!

Part Three: Our Testers
We have had a handful of people step up to help us out with testing. It's important to us to show just how appreciated they are for their help. On top of giving them free premium time, an exclusive outfit and wings addon, we will be putting up statues of all our testers in the game so that they will be literally set in digital stone in prominent locations forever.

Our testers have been finding plenty of bugs, primarily with NPC functionality. We expected more issues, so we have been pleasantly surprised that we have been able to keep up with testers and fix bugs as they are discovered!

If you have anything we should look out for that most servers overlook, we would love to hear your ideas!

What's Next?
We're working out the final kinks in our item upgrade system. The next update will go into some detail about the system. Our next test phase will center around testing and balancing these upgrades.
 
Should really come a join the testing community of this server. The guys running this are 100% dedicated to allowing the community to decide on which direction the server goes, what they think will work and wont work and take into account everyones opinions.

There is also good incentives for players to come and help grow this server into one of the more enjoyable servers out there, all you need to do is dedicated a little time and patience and will be rewarded accordingly.
