Hey OTLand, me and my girlfriend are planning on moving to New Zealand soon, but I was wanting to know some questions..
1) Where is the best place for an immigrant to live?
2) Who is the best ISP for New Zealand?
3) How do New Zealanders treat immigrants from the US?
Thanks, hope to hear from you soon.
Well if you're moving here then I'd hope you have something lined up to support yourself i.e a job or something lined up.
The work here at the moment is really all about construction or I.T, so hopefully you have qualifications for either.
Anyway, I'll try to answer some of your questions.
Q: Where is the best place for an immigrant to live?
A: One of the major cities if you're looking for work. Our major cities are Wellington (Capital, North Island), Auckland (North Island), Christchurch (Not long ago suffered a pretty big earthquake that destroyed a lot of it's city, South Island). If you're moving here and still hope for a lot of events like Concerts etc then you maybe in luck, we do get a lot of concerts etc but most Concerts are in Auckland, thankfully it doesn't take long to get there.
p.s enjoy the earthquakes when you're here, we get them all the time, I'm unsure if you tend to get on the wrong-side of the law but our police are pretty easy going. A lot easier than the U.S
Q: Who is the best ISP for New Zealand?
A: Definitely not Telecom, I'm currently with Orcon (99$/month for unlimited bandwidth), now by moving here you should definitely not expect great internet service but it's in working order.
Q: How do New Zealanders treat immigrants from the US?
A: New Zealand is known for it's multi-cultural friendliness. You'll get to know people pretty easily, most kiwi's (New Zealander's) are pretty easy going. Now when you come across Maori's (New Zealand's indigenous culture) most are pretty snobby but some are somewhat friendly, really depends on how you approach them I suppose.
You'll probably find yourself getting into pretty kiwi things such as binge drinking, rugby and some other stuff.
Also, in my city (Wellington) anyone you know, will know someone else you know. Most likely anway, so this should
help you get to know people.
