Origins: a world apart is a custom, deep, and ever expanding RPG Server set in the world Amalore, a land on the path to its impending apocalypse at the hands of extramundane deities known as the Angels.
As the player, you have been selected to be placed in the world from unknown origins to become a pawn, a tool in the movement of the world. You aren't human, you're a Creation. As a Creation, you can mold yourself in any way you want to become whatever kind of warrior you want to be. There is a main storyline/quest-line that will be released in parts: Books will be Major Updates that happen four times a year (like seasons), and Chapters will be smaller but equally important updates that will release once every month or two depending on the importance of the chapter and how big it is. This will allow newcomers, or later joiners, the chance to catch up to the rest of the players that may have already finished the quest thus far. That way, the story can't be completely ruined to those who want to learn the story through playing the game, whether it be alone or with (a) friend(s).
Having freedom of choice is one of the most important things in this server. It will feature a Cause and Effect system. Similar to Good and Evil, but a lot more neutral, yet can have extremely big consequences that are good or bad. What you as a player choose to do in the main story quest (and even other smaller side quests) will affect the overall way that the story will develop, thus shaping the land of Amalore as you play.
Custom Vocations, custom Spells, custom Monsters, custom Items; everything will be new and unique! Whether you just want to hunt and level up, explore the land for hidden treasures, embark on puzzling and difficult quests that will test your wits, or follow the captivating and mind-blowing story, there's a little bit of something for everyone.

PS: Want to see more mapping? Then go to this thread! http://otland.net/f57/avatar-world-apart-mapping-thread-195627/#post1885345

~1 Core Vocation!~
"The Creations came soon after the Angels did. At first we thought they were the commanders of the Angels, here to make things worse, but then we saw them fight back against them.
They look like us, that one thing is certain. But that's the only similarity. We rightfully named them Archaians because they have the ability to bend elements. They can summon fire, shift earth, or shoot lightning. So we knew right away that they weren't human. But thank the Maker for them, because they're all that's standing in the way of our world ending in complete total chaos."

- Ellie, Terim Librarian

Why is there only one vocation, or should we say, no vocation? Trust us. There only needs to be one, and here's why.

When you create your character, you are but a blank slate. You have many choices to choose from to become the vanguard you want to be, but first things first: you must choose an element.
As a Creation, named Archaian by the citizens of Amalore, you have the ability to control a single element. You can choose to bend at your will: Fire, Earth, or Electricity.
Aside from that, you can choose whatever other skill you want to increase! Be it swordplay, club fighting, axe fighting, or archery, it's up to you. But think hard, because every element has it's perks and differences. Choose your combination wisely!

-Fire is more focused on full out, widespread attacks that is hard to miss with.

-Earth is more focused on support and tactics, helping players aim focused attack more easy.

-Electricity is more focused on powerful direct attacks, able to kill quicker than most bending.

~Leveling Up and Character Development~
kx6i.png
"While we haven't the slightest idea of why we were chosen to be vanguards of this world, or who exactly chose us to be so, we do know this: We control our own destiny.
No almighty deity will ever be able to take that away from us."

-Ausar, Archaian of Energy

Character development is one of Origins' biggest, in-depth factors that make the server a completely unique experience. There are so many combinations to make, paths to take that will shape you character the way you want it to be shaped.

Leveling Up: Killing monsters/enemies in Origins still gives you experience the same way that any normal Tibia server does, but Leveling up is not the same at all. Instead, when your character's level increases, you are rewarded with two amounts of experience orbs. Depending on the level, of course, each time you level up, you will receive X amount of Skill Experience Orbs, and X amount of Bending Experience Orbs. You can then teleport (so as long as you aren't in a battle) to the nearest Precursor Temple where you can spend the orbs in their corresponding abilities.

Bending Experience Orbs can be used to learn new bending techniques for your element, strengthen techniques you already know, or increase the amount of will you have to perform techniques.

Skill Experience Orbs can be used to increase the following: melee fighting damage, melee fighting speed, increase defensive capabilities, weight capacity, or increase the amount of health you have, increase archery damage or archery accuracy.

More information will come out about this section as we continue to develop it!

~The Angels~

ldp.gif
"No one knows where they originated from. No one knows what they are besides malicious spirits. All we do know for certain is that they're here for one purpose.
To kill everything and end our world."

- Ellie, Terim Librarian

While there will be other smaller, less significant (but some strong) enemies in the world of Amalore, the Angels are the ones that you as a Creation have to worry about.
The Angels are ethereal beings that cross over from the Spirit World into the Real World, Amalore. Their task is to eliminate all sentient beings from the land to "cleanse" it. You can find them in Drop-Zones, portals where the Real World and the Spirit World bridge together, or they may appear during Raptures. And Raptures can happen absolutely anywhere.

~The Forerunners~
ne.gif
4in6.gif
"There are clues that hint that the Forerunners existed before even the Angels. Through recent discoveries, it is safe to believe that the Forerunners are descendants of our creators themselves, the Precursors.
They exist to guard their secrets, and to test the Creation's abilities. Besting one is no easy task, and defeating a titan? ...The reward is worth more than a fortune, if you live long enough to reach it."

- Ellie, Terim Librarian

These guardians unfazed by time can be found by ruins of the old world or guarding the Precursor Temples. While initially they're considered enemies, they only are so because they are testing you. If an Angel appears, though, their target instantly switches and they are your allies. But be weary, they can be extremely strong, and they won't hesitate to kill you.

~Quantumshift Gates~
toa2.png
"Quantumshift Gates, remnant Precursor technology from the old world, can be found around the Land of Amalore. Activate one upon discovery and its power will be at your disposal."

- Ellie, Terim Librarian

These ancient pieces of technology are one of the few types left that still function. What are they? Teleports. They can transfer any living being from one gate to another. But in order to be able to use one, you must have found it first. You cannot teleport to a gate you have never visited.
Furthermore, the gates cannot be used while you are in combat, and it has a 1 Hour cool-down.

A very nice idea. I've always liked the shows / movies about using the four elements to their will.. How based are you on the Legend of Korra? Basing an OT about a series can be a great idea, since it let's you follow a prelaid path. And about the air element, I could suggest that you could find a person who can sprite the air bending. If you make the client into OTC you are a lot less limited to Tibia's abilities, and you can revamp a lot of the spells and make it feel more bend-ie. In addition, are you working with a team or by yourself for the time being?

Sadly, I'm only working with Peroxide right now on this project, but even he is limited with time so it's not like a full-time help.
And yeah, I thought about your idea with custom sprites and whatnot, but I'm going to have to say N O to that. Custom clients only turn people away, generally speaking. I'd get less players on with a custom client. I want to make this server available to everyone!
And I'm basing it off Korra for the Steampunk Era kinda thing, and the idea of the new Spirit World coming up in Book 2. I'm not copying it all, more like just making my own version of it.

Not really, i really hope u think twice about saying no to costum sprites, its a nice idea and all making a server based off this serie and i really hope it succeeds, but if u add some costum sprites /items (vocs and spells are allready costum ofc) it could be legendary and like Dark said using OTC gives u even more possibilities.
this kind of costum server attracts a certain kind of players and most of them wouldnt mind downloading a costum client because most of the costum servers out there use costum clients

but i wish u the best of luck and i will definetly try this out when it releases or in a testphase

Kind regards,
Hehemidu

i came once also with this idea long ago if i can find again the files i can give you mine concept with the vocation etc.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, Hehemidu. And trust me, I really do wish I could do the custom client experience, but I just don't see any servers really succeeding with custom sprites! Even Kingdom Age, which is a huge and beautifully done server with amazing custom sprites and spells, etc, it's not doing well. It pretty much failed at the beginning and now in its re-release its still not doing well. I'll definitely give more thought into it during the development of this project, but for right now, I don't even know where to start with custom sprites and client and all that stuff. I'm really new to making an entire server by myself so its challenging enough as it is.

But thank you for your advice, and I'll definitely keep it in mind :) I may have said no right now, but I haven't ruled it out. Anything's possible and this project is only just starting!

~EDIT~

Thank you, Lagmacun! Any help is welcome, and it'd mean a lot to me :D

The Pokemon OT was released with a custom client and had so many players that Nintendo shut them down.
When Shinobi Online first came out it was a custom client and had so many players log on the first day that you couldn't even do the tutorial because the screen was completely filled with people wanting to play. (Then after playing the server was boring so everyone quit)

As long as you have a stable and fun server, people will play it. The better your server is, the more people that will play it.

I was actually planning on doing a project similar to this, but I have so many Servers I am working on I decided a new project wasn't a good idea. The farthest I got was scripting the elements and how they react to each other when they clash. I wanted a Dynamic way to fight.

I'll be keeping up with your server, should be fun to see what you do with it :).

Well a Pokemon OT is a different story, cuz it's Pokemon. That's a pretty HUGE thing. As for Shinobi, no clue what that is but sounds like gayruto server (Sorry!).
I know what you mean, but I'm just not sure I want to take the huge step to do all this super customization that will require a new client. I want it to feel like a Classic RPG server, but with a totally new style to play in (like the fast paced battling).
But still, thanks for the input, and like I said earlier, nothing's impossible. This project is still young!

Shinobi is a Gayruto server :p. I have a habit of playing almost every new custom OT that comes out. (As a server developer I like to see what other people are doing)

I would love to see how your fast paced battling is going to be like. Who is the scripter working on this project?

sadly just me! hahah. I haven't ever scripted before but I'm sure I can learn, doesn't seem too hard. just gotta have patience and no giving up. also Peroxide said he'd help

Wow! so you are currently a 1 man team with a bit of Peroxide help?

yup, pretty much! I use my girly charm to get peroxide to help...if you know what I mean... ;)

lmao jokes! yeah he's gunna help me with a bit of the mapping and any technical stuff he can help with whenever he has time.

Lol scary D:

**Edit**
I am still trying to think of how to add Avatar style fighting to Tibia.
Maybe I should actually watch Avatar (never seen it) to get an idea of what your goal is lol.

Basically, it'll be quick instant spells that don't do too much damage each hit, but do add up. Example: the delay/exhaust would be very small so you can throw an attack faster.
Also, there will be "Combos."
By that, I mean spells that can only be used if used after a certain sequence of attacks, or at least would be stronger if used in that combo sequence. Example: "Left hook, Right Hook, Blast!"
I'm gunna add this to the FAQ :p

If you don't mind me asking, what do you have done so far?
Just working on the map?

Yeah, just map stuff done right now. Everything is still in the conceptual stage, but soon I'll start working on the Bending Techniques (spells) and vocations.

I promise I won't give up! Just trying to get as much help as I can right now. Going to start a recruitment thread soon for multiple positions, mostly scripting though. Hopefully I can get some good and experienced people join! :)

The spells should be skill shots and by that I mean you can't just click on the target and smash hotkeys, you actually have to aim and stuff.

I would have to agree with Zasranets.
But truthfully it is hard to make everything a skill-shot.
