Paying vs Donating in OTS

Legally.. Your OT is YOUR business... Your OT has NONE of their content.. they cant sue for any reason at all.. Just make sure to put on your website that you DO NOT condone the use of any CIP clients for connection to your server, although it may be compatible it is not allowed...

download and run a OT. the only content that it comes with that is theirs is the names and stats of weapons. They dont own any file formats in the server.. they own nothing.. when u start up your SQL server its all your data on the sql server (such as item numbers) and that is YOUR sql server with YOUR data on it.... When selling items on any website Dont use their sprites or names and its pretty hard for them to sue... also.. they wouldn't make any money from all the overseas court fee's be ridiculous out the ass.

I thought the same as you Jgarder we didn't create OTS by doing something illegal, the only thing is the connecting to them. But you can use other clients anyways (not sure if it's legal to use their .spr though). The names of items and cities wouldn't be copyrighted either. What about having tibia's "sprites" on your website? Like a little gif image of a spike sword or w.e.

Unless you make HUGE profit in it, they won't do anything against them. Imagine yourself in their position, there's BILLIONS of OTServers, they couldn't catch them all and if they decide to sue one or even a few of them, I'd be surprised if it wasn't the ones at the top of the otservlist.

Well it would be a really bad business decision from there standpoint, they wouldn't have a case. Nor evidence and it would cost them more then they would get out of it (if they could win the case). ^.^

Didn't Goobers or w.e get sued and win the case?

yes.. ALTHOUGH tibia stole ALL of its original sprites from Ultima 6 (go ahead download it and check it out) it is still "technically" illegal for us to use Cip's sprites on our website or officially in our games.

EDIT PS.
Tibia wiki and other sites can post pictures from cip because its fair use or for non-profit/fan sites... our OT's are considered profit and not fan sites :(
