Releasing my projects

I'm not interested at all in Oldschool releases, but I'm really interested in the Pokemon one, although I think that you shouldn't release the entire project (Datapack?) and just give us some base scripts or maybe some little "teasers" with examples on it.

Which systems are you intressted in? :P

@Printer Id say: Keep both until you are not absolutely sure you will quit OT. If you however have decided on quitting OT some day, release em all for good or give them to a few dedicated people in order to avoid too much clones in the future. All in all projects are meant to be unique :P
I have decided some months ago that this is basicly the end of my OT history and have given some usefull packs around but not for everyone but some dedicated small bunch I know the files will be used good.

Which systems are you intressted in? :p
I'm interested in the nickname feature (I was using setCreatureName updated to 1.x but the description didn't work) and the level system :P
And in which way are you using to the walking effect? onStepOut?

Well i can quicky answer how they are made:
The nickname feature can be found here: http://otland.net/threads/change-existing-monster-name-in-game.131643/, but the problem was you have to someway refresh the monster name. Else it will not show. The 3 ways you can do it, either remove the monster, teleport it far away or clear the spectator cache.

Level system, is bit to big to explain :P

The walking effect is nothing hard todo, it's just addEvent and send the effect. Also it check creature current pos with the oldPos. If it's not the same, it means the creature has moved and it will send effect.

Well i see now how you gained your post count. It does not mean that i have to release it same day i asking a question. Since the day i quit open-tibia all my projects and all my stuff will be downloadable.
Actually my posts are from the screenshot section, large art and small art mainly.

Do some research then tell me where my posts come from. Unlike yours, begging for some attention.

My last post, enjoy

Good for you, cry is free :)

How "complete" is this RL map?
If you havent kept it online for players to play its probably full of bugs and it won't affect the community.
However having 7.4 - 8.0 on tfs 1.0 sounds very interesting and it surely we would see more old school ots.

I think you should release both projects if you have no use for them.
More similar OTs ▶ more competition ▶ more great OTs
Sure there would come many bad OTs but those OTs won't survive for long but those ots that would, would be very good ones.

True :p, but i want to share one server.

There is already other oldschool servers released. Why will mine make any big diff?

Well, let's see, it's TFS 1.0 right? You could make it public at GitHub and I could contribute to the project, if it could get to be good and stable it'll be good to have something better and newer than my OTHire for oldschool.

But I'm talking if this oldschool server you're talking about is just a base game server for oldschool, not something complete, if it's complete please DO NOT release it unless it's a base server and everyone has to do everything else.

Well i thought about a whole rl map server :p Even tho i do not recommend tfs 1.x on older versions. Since it will occur alot of problems.

Well, I don't think you should release any of them. But if you ask me to choose one, I'd say pokemon (cuz I like it, and maybe I could continue them xd).

Instead of releasing one of them and working on one, why not just release and work on both of them? I mean think about it. You have somethings many want, if you release them people are already planning on making their own version on github. Why not release and create your own private repository and invite others who share your love of the servers you made help make them better, and better for later releases even. You could do releases for everyone here on otland if you wanted, or just keep the work private but still have some help. Also if others are creating repositories with your code as the base, then some work could be merged into yours to help save you time that way if you see somethings that others are doing that is great....

Stop it with the public release of real map servers, just don't, don't destroy what's left of the good community.

Releasing files will never destroy a community, we will only grow. Man up and deal with the fact people love to explore and test things out for their own. The fact you want to limit people on what THEY want to create is completely ignorant to the complete creative process. Yes they start with a real map, but usually make alot of drastic changes. So I wouldn't worry to much, not to mention; the server owner is what makes the server. You could have the best server engine, and map with all the files; but if you are complete idiot to your players you will get no where.

Also Printer if you want to release something, just release it; inspire on your own levels; dont ask what people want from you to be inspired. Otherwise you will constantly be running in circles! I've seen you posting about, and jumping around from multiple projects that you are working on and it doesn't seem healthy for your creativity unless it is what you enjoy. I feel you need to find what you have a passion for and work on that, if that means it is one of the projects you are offering to release, dont release it and release the others. Otherwise, post all of them and move onto something better for your time that you will actually spend more than a month or two on before jumping to something else.

This is all just my personal opinion, I am by no means telling you what to do; but from a third perspective if I was in your shoes; I would feel completely detached from who I really him due to the fact I constantly ask people for "my opinion". I know to you right now, you just want their opinion.. but if you live by someone elses opinion you make it your own as well. Which is unhealthy for your own life progress.

Key and Point: If you want to release the files (even with any bugs, because really who cares?) then RELEASE THEM! If you are just doing this for attention or to figure out what you want to do with your Open Tibia Developement life, then go for a walk outside and really thing about your life and where you spend your time.. what makes you happy. I feel you are an intelligent person, you are just looking in the wrong places to continue your creativity.

Again, all just my opinion; take care mistah!

Open Tibia is a community that was founded on the idea of collective working and releasing of code for everyone to use freely.
I encourage you share anything you'd like, @Printer. I see no need for a discussion thread for it.

Releasing data packs cannot solely be held accountable for the kind of "servers" that are spit out the back-end of many server owners.
If Open Tibia players did not give these low quality servers the light of day, they would not exist in the first place.
