I'm about to buy a smartphone and I'm willing to spend around 350€/$450 max.
For that price, I found samsung galaxy s3 to be the best bet, if anyone's got a better suggest - tell me.

Also general smartphone discussion - which one do you have, which one you think is the best, what is your favorite feature etc...

Samsung Galaxy S4 comes out real soon, MUCH better than S3.
If you like BlackBerry Messenger, don't get BlackBerry, they are porting it to Android/iOS in the future.
Apple's phone stocks are falling down.

It already came out as far as I know, and I'd gladly get that or Note 2 over S3 but I'm not willing to spend that much cash :\
I don't like Blackberries nor iPhones for that matter, I think apple is a pretty greedy and shit company, also dislike their "inventing warm water" regime.

I still have S2, my contract doesn't expire until next year.
I love the S2, it's been perfect for anything, but yes, I'd like an upgrade to S3 or S4, or maybe S5 when my contract expires.

I hate Apple for the same reason as you, they are expensive, greedy, very unfriendly for programmers/developers.

My friend also has an S2 and he says he's pretty satisfied, we're thinking to take that one for my brother and from what I've seen and read about it, that model is top notch for its generation. I've held S3 once and played a game on it, it's pretty massive but also runs very smoothly, shit has a better processor than my current PC (;_;).

My gf just got LG Optimus L9 and from what I've seen it's also a very nice phone for the given price - although also pretty massive and a little different from S2. It has a sweet camera to say at least. So if anyone's going to get smth a bit cheaper, I'd totally recommend that unless you have a problem with its size.

I'd love to get S4 or HTC One but yeh, that's a bit too much, since I have to get a tablet later too :(

I have a shitty Samsung Galaxy-Y, was in need for a quick cheap phone and since I'm not overly fond of cellphones I don't really want to spend a lot of money for something I'll rarely use, though I would love to have a S3/S4 for the camera D;

Nexus 4 by google/lg

I've got it and im VERY happy... why should you get it? Its a powerhouse! more pwoerful than the samsung s3, WAY MORE powerful than the iphone 5 and guess what? Its cheaper than alot of other phones with half its specifications !

So how can it be so powerful for so cheap? It's because its a google phone, it uses android like the samsung s4 but unlike samsung, google get all the profits from you using android and buying from play store and maps etc (advertisements and stuff you know)..... so google can sell the phone cheaper becuase they make up for it by you using all their other services which no other phone can do except the iphones and blackberrys

This is a no-brainer really if you wanna save money.

Give this link a try Compare LG Google Nexus 4 E960 (16GB) vs Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300, S III (16GB) vs Samsung Galaxy S4 vs Apple iPhone 5 16GB | SmartPrix

its a comparison i just made up for you. I know the s3 scores more points but those points are not based on performance or screen quality as the nexus 4 beats the s3 in those areas but the s3 is lighter etc so it get more points elswhere

Thank you for your suggestion, I've read into it and now I will consider the choice if I happen to stumble upon that phone somewhere in my city. (Since I was about to order online on one website, and they have S3 on special sale so currently it's about 20€ cheaper than that LG)

Thats a nice deal you got there then! I assume you're comparing to the official google play store price? They do offer an 8gb version for cheaper if you dont care about storage as you cant add more with an sd card.

Depends what you want, the nexus 4 is just a powerhouse and can run so many more apps in the background becuase it has a whole 1gb RAM more than the s3 and a way more powerful processor!

For sleek elegant design then the s3 is a must(s4 if you can afford) but i didnt give 2 craps about anything but power so i get the nexus 4 and it cost me £100 less than a s3 :)

The nexus 4 doesn't support super fast 4g though so that could be a turn off to some people. Im fine with 3g as im getting 25mbps which is more than the average household wifi!! lol

Yess! I saw the announcement on twitter yesterday! I was like, finally I'm getting an iphone!

@shadowsong my brother owns a samsung galaxy s3 and its MUCH better than iphone 4s/5 and blackberry z10/q10. If you're going to buy samsung galaxy s4 I'd suggest you to wait until iphone 5s or 6 is released so you can compare between samsung galaxy s4 and iphone 5s/6 and pick the better phone.

The best thing with Nexus 4 (Which i have) is that it is not full with bloatware and shit.. and it is already rooted when you get it ;)

Samsung phones comes with samsung apps and shit... (Takes a lot of battery power)
When i rooted my old HTC Desire HD and installed normal android i could use it 2 days instead of 1.

Also the Nexus costs nothing and it's sexy ;D
Nexus 5 will be out this year :P thinking of upgrading

I researched a little and Sony Xperia Z seems like a very sexy phone with better performance than S3 while I can find it for the same (or even lower) price. That's insane. Now I can't make up my mind between that phone or the already suggested LG Nexus.

@up didn't buy anything yet

They don't mean to be unfriendly, just strict. It's meant to promote the quality of applications, not the quantity (which they still have plenty of). It's easy to develop for, just a pain in the a** to get in the apple store compared to the google counterpart (they renamed it recently didn't they?). Still, its not impossible and emphasizes standards that should not normally be broken... If you're talking about iOS's Objective-C (which I didn't want to learn either) vs Android's Java, then this isn't really an issue anymore either as frameworks like Apache Cordova (PhoneGap) allow you to create full blown cross-platform (seemingly) native applications without having to know anything but basic Javascript, HTML5, and CSS3. jQuery Mobile and Cordova is one seriously awesome combination.

I got Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (N7100) for 350€ and I am very happy with it.
It has a massive screen (6 inch), yes, but I got used to it very quickly and it's awesome. It runs very fast and smooth and I already installed a shitton of games including PS1 games (Currently playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories, dat nostalgia). But I also tested Crash Bandicoot 3, Metal Slug X, Pokemon Emerald, Crash Bash, etc.. It's like a freakin' handheld console!

Anyway, it also has nice sound reproduction, but it's very loud (low on bass tho) and the camera is impeccable! Got some HD porn onto it, feels like heaven man, looks better than on computer.

The only things I dislike is that it's hard to fit in pocket sometimes (if it's a shallow pocket) and the fact that the speaker is on the lower part of its design so when you hold it in hand, your hand can get over the speaker and mute the sound a little.

Anyway, 10/10, recommending.
