Hello

Over the past months I have seen alot of complaint threads regarding certain moderators that has been closed by the moderator in question. The authors of the threads all felt that they had more to say and that they were not threated in an okay way, which I totally agree with. This often resulted in another new thread, so the discussion could continue but once again it usually gets closed.

I could keep this thread as a complaint too, but I prefer to leave constructive feedback so people will be able to improve insteed, my suggestion is that if a moderator's actions gets questioned, the moderator it regards should not be allowed to close nor delete the thread where the dicussion takes place. Let me take an example, if a police does any kind of bad action, is it he who chose what the consequences will be? This forum contains alot of young people, everyone is not authoritative and proffesional, therefor it can cause alot of corruption. Which currently is the case if you ask me, people does have the right to speak regarding a police's bad action to someone else than the police in question, this should apply here to if you ask me.

If a moderator can't stand seeing a discussion in a thread regarding him/herself, and cannot refrain to close it, than he/she should resign.

LOL What is wrong here!?!?!?

Kanakashy seems to like to troll and people complain because mods are selective in how often they punish users for using excessive swear words. Really it all seems to boil down to complaining that the mods are too 'busy' (I think they're just lazy/inactive) to actually punish all those who get away with it. It's funny how different communities go about their policies and how they enforce them, this policy has pretty much been ripped up and burned in a fire.

Lets not forget that the majority of our global moderators and board moderators simply don't have anything to do with this. This community actually has the most professional staff I have seen in a long time, each and every moderator has a lot of knownledge regarding all kind of things. We should not criticize the staff in general, but more likely only a few moderators.

I am not taking stance against any member, moderator or any administrator on this community, nor am I going to mention any names, but there have been certain situations where this/these moderators have been extremely selfish and actually just wanted to protect their own reputation by closing a thread without letting the member explain himself or come up with a discussion. This is however a discussion forum, or am I wrong?

@up, the good mods you're saying they all retired for living purposes, it still have some good staff members, but some just don't and no matter how hard they try it they always ended up in controversy.

Looks like moderator start to piss off on this thread already, with that mean they like trolling comments.. and just simply off topic and can just say that its CyberM. I suggest Talaturen make a new staff... like my comment if you would like it. Else it doesn't matter :)

I would not make a completely new staff, that would be too much changes. Talaturen & Kornholijo who appointed the very first board moderators & global moderatos have not just picked some random members but members that they see have potentional to be a moderator and to keep the boards clean from spam, rule violators and of course unwanted softwares and viruses. So we actually should not give them order to change the whole staff. Our dear administrators did not missjudge any of the moderators, clearly they have changed.

My suggestion is that the administrators should gather the staff to discuss and ask each and every moderator about their own opinion and view of this case. This is a pretty serious thread which really shows our (non-staff) opinion about the power that the moderators have. And not the power itself, but how a certain (global) moderator take action and uses this power. In this case power is in form of closing threads, handing out infractions and re-opening threads to write even more.

I sign this.

@Kanakashy

Please man, stop trolling once in your life! we're serious here..

Beside talking about this which i agree about
Let's talk about this
You insult someone you get infaction
you find 50 other users insulting but never got any warnings or the post got deleted
So sup?
The mod is only gonna warn 1 out of 50?
This is serious a message to all mods out there
If your gonna warn someone because of offensive language...remember he is gonna complain due to lack of mods warning other offensive statments
King regards
Rush~Crush ,
Thank you.

How are you supposed to know who we warn? You only get to know when we warn you, not when we warn those 49 others. Just because they don't make a thread complaning doesn't mean that they DIDN'T get warned, you just can't see that they did.

Well, we all have our issues, I always wanted a professional attitude from ourselves and I think that the job is up to the community managers or administrators to find out what the majority thinks, so they can take the moderators on the right path. Because I'm not getting impression that we are doing something wrong other than the members. I also believe that what the majority thinks need to be atleast properly discussed.

I totally agree with you except for the facts that there are more of your resposibility to shall we call it educate members that behave bad. If we compare this to a mother-child relationship we see a few similar actions. The mother gives the child a few rules to follow, so did OTLand in general (stickies included), if the child violates any of these rules that was settled the mother warns the child in any way, but in a kindly way. And when the child once again violates this rule, she punish the child and takes his/her toy. But she does not only take it, she asks for an explaination and let the child speak out and learn how to behave right in the future.

If I got it right the specific moderator(s) that is the case did not learn the "child" to behave, they just punished and then closed the thread.
But well, you are absolutely right. I am not blaming anyone. Though I'm certain that you did not reffer to me, but well :)

Thought of that too, and it's very relative and is nothing more than true. We cannot see wheter you warn all 50 hypothetical members or just one. But we can see the hypothetical member that thinks it is unjustified. And I completely agree with you. I see that you quoted a post, but this is not a "suggestion" against that. It's more likely ending up with only a specific moderator(s) in the spotlight.

That is actually the basic thing about how it works when moderating. But the fact is that there will always be a barrier between the member and moderator. In your example you're talking about a mother figure, in real life a child responds how the mother behaves (raising the voice, face expression and other body signals) so the child feels he/she is doing something wrong and you will be able to see if he or she gets the message which isn't possible here as we are on the internet, but this is not really the topic where this thread goes about as this is about the rights of the members. The only good suggestion I can come up with is to ask more responsibility, equally treatment and respect from both the moderators and members but as this is internet not everyone takes it seriously and it will always be a problem but doing it on a more friendly way that problem can be made smaller atleast.

An open report system would be good, meaning anyone that reports can see their report only and a comment from a moderator with the action that has been taken, then the violator sees his reported post in a special inbox with the reason and action that has been token. This way people who report can see what has been done without really breaking his/her privacy.

Anyhow the solution can only be decided by the administrators or community managers (if they are even supposed to take these) I'm only talking for myself.

I just would like to point out a few things. I did not mean the moderators in general, the big majority are doing their work just fine and we all appreciate it, but still there are a few whose not doing their job properly if you ask me. I wouldn't say that they are breaking rules and behaving bad, they just got a few glitches like we all do but these glitches cannot be tolerated once you are in a such 'powerposition'.

An open report system is a great idea actually, I really hope that the administrators enlighten that part of your post.
Well, now back to topic!

Well, not back to topic!

As Xenios and Siramix said, an open report system would be great. Users would know exactly why other members got punished and moderators would feel pressure that they have to do proper reports with a logic reason or else users would react.

But lets get back to the topic, what does everyone think about my suggestion?

Because im sure u wont leave a comment with offensive language :)

i don't agree, not really but what i see is that they are only doing thier job , so if u are saying they are abusing or stuff ur wrong, i really don't have a problem with them ;o, i think they are great they are the ones who kept the server stable and fair, they are simply fair u gotta accept that... follow rules and i bet there won't be any problem, and they are not police! we are the police the members they are the chief of the police they ban they delete they do what they want... we police only do report and stuff.. im just saying me opinion, honestly your mistaking, every action they do is fine cause they have reasons for every action they do, they are the chief police, we are the police we can't do anything, plus if u are saying that they are abusing and stuff that means u offended the main and the owner of otland. onwer who chose to be a mod and chose who not ot be cause they have reasons and they have what it takes to be a mod, so if u say anything about that its justlike you offended the owner cause ur messing with his choices..

I aggree kejs

Please man, stop trolling once in your life! we're serious here..

Trolling in what? I was being serious, I wasn't commenting as if It has to be done with some trolling intentions, thing is people gets easily trolled by how I write every comment, I point people very directly n that's why they get trolled, because they can't handle the truth. "Some" moderators want just to play the hero paper role on this forum, infracting with no mercy, and then there saying to bow on them so that we can have a "another" chance, instead it will create more hesitation and they eventually comes back making multiple accounts and complaining about "some certains" mods. They know they are ones that are just being hipocrite and just benefits and making everyone inferior.

Another thing I would like to point is the massive mod/user influence in here, I've seen that they are some users who keeps telling people everything with the enough proof for a ban, infraction, warning, and they don't do nothing to those users, its just really disrespectfull that some mods wont infract, ban, warn anyone that is from the same country n its ok to be friends but some are just MEGA SUPER REALS friends, and they know who am I talking about (not saying names), even tho they will never accept it.

Another shit about "some" mods in here is the ageism, telling whos being a kid or whos being an adult, who gives a fuck? what makes you think you're the one to say what you think, your green name? I bet most of the users/mods have similar ages, some are just 5-6years far, and base in human behavior, being extremly polite and having trouble controlling there anger problems its not normal, I would get mad if my computer has a BSOD or something similar, but damn over some random internet comment? its just way too far, i mean its fucking internet, who gives a fuck if someone is mad? an example of a normal mod is NaS,(im not saying everyone its not) which I really respect because he just be normal, nothing about being extremly polite, or w.e

There needs to be more consistence in policy and the way punishments are distributed. Moderators are people just like us who are donating their time to help keep the forum clean, to assume they are older than most members would be absurd, as chances are they are in the same age group. You could also mention the discussion on how everybody has different level of maturity, and just because you're older doesn't mean that person is more mature.

Honestly to assume all moderators would be on the same page and actually take their jobs super seriously is absurd, as moderators just like members have a right to their opinion. Moderators however should be willing to respect members of the community like the way the members respect them.

Just a question, if a moderator bans you on one account, shouldn't you be banned on all?
