Visa & MasterCard blocks payment.

I didn't say it was solely used for pirating, I said it allows safe pirating.
The article says VPN in general, not specifically in Europe (I don't know, maybe I'm wrong).

VPNs isn't used for solely for pirating, besides I thought this article was about Visa & Mastercard Europe where CAS doesn't exist and where you don't need a VPN to safely pirate anyhow?

I forgot, it's also for sharing child porn, drug and human trafficking.. most reasons that demand for you to use a VPN are not very legal to begin with..

But.. I do know that a large amount of people use it for privacy reasons (be it that they are doing something they shouldn't, that they are just plain paranoid, or have very sensitive information).. so it is very disheartening to see businesses attack these services due to the 'bad apples' out there.

But those are the real reasons behind this. Though I would really wish that this was for more a moral reason (child porn, drug and human trafficking), I would be willing to bet the key motivator here was money, and that's why I focused on pirating on my post.

... and to just make things clear for the more dense people out there... I'm all for using VPNs, and have used themselves extensively for various reasons. I'm just aware that big businesses infringe on human rights -a lot- more than 'the government' does, and even if there was government pressure here, the key motivator is money, and that's the reason for this...

Also, one last note.. for those that think this will have 'little to no effect' on pirating, and won't result in a net gain for mastercard/visa, I'll just recap some personal experiences of my own..

When megavideo/megaupload was taken down, a friend of mine wanted to watch some movie (one of the bourne movies if memory serves), saw that megaupload was down.. and promptly went to itunes and bought it.

That's the mentality of a regular, full time working, person.. they don't want to deal with the time it takes to search for a good torrent or whatever.. they just don't want to deal with it.

Will these policies change anything? To a small degree, yes, enough for it to be beneficial for them.. but there will still be people like myself they will continue to do as we please, and will find ways around business agendas and government policies.

The article mentions Visa Europe and other european payment methods and websites so I'd guess this is about Europe, but idk,

“It means that US companies are forcing non-American companies not to allow people to protest their privacy and be anonymous, and thus the NSA can spy even more. It’s just INSANE,” Sunde says.

Buildings also give us privacy, that privacy allows us to commit crimes but the intent is to provide shelter.

By the way, how do they make money on banning out websites?
