Try to think of a purpose for the area. dont just map it cos u thought of it. example - if your going to make a huntin place before you start you should think about.... What monsters are going to be there, whats the surroundings going to be like... (e.g dark(fire),ect) any quests.... perhaps...

Its a good start.. Stop giving the guy grief hes just started mapping. the problem with the sand is its bunched together to much, try putting just like 1 or 2 squares in certain places and blend it in with the floor, so more like spilt sand rather than sand thats meant to be there. also try...

As a training area goes it ok, its rather plain if you want more constructive criticism then try mapping something with abit more detail. like a hunting ground, camp, tomb or something along those lines.. it doesnt realy matter what a training ground looks like. Not unless your going for a theme...
