Not necessary, you can spread the load and keep the game server IP away from prying eyes using cloud-like methods. It's not that expensive either, you can get a lowend VPS for 1-2€/month.

Just curious, how much are you spending on DoS protection? I assume you're paying someone to do it for you. You could make your own protection with less than 20€/month, although it'd take some time and expertise to set it all up.

There isn't much one can do with a shoestring budget. The best thing one can do on a minimal budget is have a few VPSes act as login servers, and host the web site on one of them. But it's still not entirely secure, unless you can afford even more VPSes to act as load balancers.

I'm fairly sure Iryont knows more about OpenTibia and the Tibia client than all of Faloria's staff combined.

What did you expect from a low-end server? edit: You don't need much to take down a single low-end server like this one. I pay 7€/quarter for one of my virtual servers, and it's more than enough to take Oldera down.

The email headers doesn't imply it's legit, at all. The headers only show that the email came from no-ip.org, since they forwarded the email to you/Erik.
