is tibia OT legal? how hard is it to make one?

And even if you modify THEIR client, they cant proove it can they?

They can prove it if you have it up to download. Whatever you do, do not host it on your personal file server.

Why not person file folder? and how can they proove it if you change loads of things? Prooving things like that in a court is near impossible I thought..

Its quite easy to prove that its modified... You shouldn't be worried about that though. As long as you take the proper steps, you can minimize fault if you decide to modify their client. Use something like speedyshare.

You shouldn't quit just because of the client ;o. Look at all the people who play Open Tibia...I'd say 90% of them are violating the copyright for the Tibia client :0.

Making your own game is a pretty big thing, even if you use OTServ and the Tibia client. Just making an OT(with cool features, a good map, good NPCs and a lot of quests) is a long-term project. If you add these things to that list,:
-Modifying tibias client to the extent that it's no longer recognisable as Tibia
-Replacing all the 25,000 sprite files
-Modifying the .dat file to fit your new sprites

it will take well over 3 years even if you have a big team.

And then, even if you succeed, you might get sued by CIPSoft and all the work you've put on it is lost.

You'd be better of making an OT instead :]

Keep in mind that the only ilegal thing you do is changing the ip on the Tibia client using the ip changer and as far as I know they cannot detect that so they can't get any proof.

Yes I know I need to know more to make a game, I havent said I wanted to make a game, I said I wanted to basically modify tibia so its basically tibia with another name/theme/graphic/concept things qhich dont require any "architectural" change, just the same game with a new .. "skin" if that makes sense..

I have a question though, is it possible to change the skill names on a tibia ot? So instead of distance, could I call it "archery" or something? Also can you change/add new item/sprites? And finally can you make for example new outfits?`That would just be another sprite (4 sprites per outfit) right??

8mb internet speed (will possibly get more soon)

Also, if I do this I might consider getting a new hard drive and installing linux, but tibia is windows based right? So I'd need to make some thing to change it... ?

All is possible yes, with time and skill. But I doubt you will complete it though. Many try, ones who succeed don't need to worry about computer specs cause noone plays
