C++ Kindly explain to me how fleeing works

Hello OtLand, sorry for bothering you with my C++ ignorance, but can someone please explain to me how "fleeing" monsters calculate their paths while running away from you on low health?

I'd like to recreate it in Lua for special purposes, but i can't seem to understand it from reading the C++ code alone, plus it's confusing since i don't understand C++ all that well.

If i understood correctly, it's taking a step to opposite direction due to targets position, if it can't monster takes a turn to opposite direction or random if no offset and so on.
It's pretty well commented there.
