Leftwing's Mapping Works

Well I don't see how a distro can blow hard, but alright left, whatever floats your boat :p

When you can't even cast a spell without the distro crashing I feel that there is enough evidence to see why it blows hard.

Here's a piece of work I finished, hope Wendt's is better:

I actually think it looks really good. Well decorated, but still not to narrow, so what dont you like magnetico?

It looks great Leftwing :) I myself is also into the kind of mapping where you do not fill every sqm with 3 different kind of ID's ^^ Clean and yet good lookin' maps ftw! <3

When you take a picture, press CTRL - SHIFT - N...

Will make a new view (better quality on the picture)

Sorry, but I really don't like the walls. The middle is fine, maybe some grass tufts but that is alright.

The mountain walls are clearly autoborderd and they autoborder incorrectly in the corners so you need to correct them. Secondly, the mix and match cave walls shouldn't be so haphazard. You've got dirt on stone and stone on dirt where I think you should have more defined areas of each. You have also forgotten about the cave walls details, branches & moss etc.

You have also mentioned you've increased the speed of your mapping and maybe not detailing everywhere, just remember some places players will rush through don't require that much detail. Whereas, is that a slime boss? People might spend some time here so you should spend the extra time getting it perfect.

Hopefully this hasn't come across as too harsh, just trying to be constructive.

Mountains aren't autobordered, what do you mean where they are wrong? Please explain. Also it's a defiler, an actual creature and not a boss. If I ever go back and edit it I'll be sure to add branches to the walls and possibly make each area more defined.

This is my cyclops map:

(I've noticed I have a border bug, which isn't the best when complaining about someone else's borders >.<)

Notice how the corners in the southwest and northeast corners of the mountain walls are different to yours? I'm pretty sure that is the correct way to do them,

When I sketch mountains autoborder doesn't use the flat blunt wall pieces but the curved corners you have used, why I thought it was autobordered.

It's really a matter of preference, now that I understand what your saying I can see why you would think that. On the ground floor, or the bottom level of the mountain I ALWAYS use corner pieces, and as you go higher up you do not, simply because they would appear to randomly pointing out of the cliff. You're argument is valid, but it's not like it is a big deal or a major error, just a different preference of mapping.

Imo... there is nothing "Wrong" in the world of mapping... being creative can turn out two ways.. bad lookin' or good lookin'.... You can't really say that 3 sprites mixed together in another way, than most people use them, is mixed up wrong. Can you..? :p I for example never use full bordering on any floor of my mountains..... looks fuggly imo ;D

@ Up agreed, the only thing to say is that mapping is an art, and there are accepted styles and non-accepted styles. Some people just think their way is better.

Finally I have some new pictures to share with you all!

First off, we go back to the red border to check out the in-game look of the previously shown swamp:

Next we move back on to the swamp of spiders and the mystery of dead bodies.

For those that do not remember where we left off last, look here:

It's nice but definately I do like your old mapping better when you worked with me, Afton and Mag.
The last picture I'd border some of the mountain :D
