Monsters attacking outside screen

I have TFS 0.2.8 (dead bug - 8.0) and I have a problem with the monsters.
The thing is, the player gains attack from the monsters before he can see them.

Now, I know that it's supposed to be like that, but is it possible to change it so that the monsters only attack you when they are visible at your screen?

It should be changeable in the sources, but why not use one of the latest Distros?

I had that with the ranged guys and stuff, I just got the new server and they stopped doing that.

i dont think there is any other to change this appart from editing sources or just making the monster further away.
