Facebook was going to be taken down by the UK government as well as blackberry devices as the Riots were being organised by these, twitter also.
Though, police found it was possible to hunt down criminals by going on to these sites as morons were posting what they stole, rofl.
And there was a story over the riots, though, it just got out of hand and I cant be bothered to explain it fully;
A gangster got shot in Tottenham, London.
Gangsters friends and family caused riot in Tottenham.
People from other places start riots for fun and for free stuff from shops.
There.

They seem to be tired about the privacy shit, in their opinion facebook is selling some private information to corporations, and they think that's just not right.
Yes, they are a group of hackers, some of them have been already catched, 3 which were let's say "real" anonymous were catched, they are now "using" the people around the world who is with them to help them DDoS websites.
People have been used to DDoS for a long time now, since it's a lot easier to simply trick a person to download a seemingly harmless file that allows them to spam an address. Almost anyone today could DDoS, hell there are even sites you can pay to allow you to DDoS people using their programs. It's gotten to the point where the only effect it has is to piss off those who use the service or site that is under attack.
Operation Facebook is a joke, if anything they should be attacking the government services of the US and pressure them into fixing their shit.

An Anonymous member named Speakeasy laid the whole story out in a document posted to Pastebin today. In an IRC chat today, Speakeasy said that "Operation Facebook" was launched months ago by him and about 10-20 other people in a room on the Anonymous chat server. However, their goal was not to "destroy" Facebook. The main purpose was to "bring awareness to Facebook keeping data even after you delete an account," Speakeasy said. (Facebook saves your personal information and continues to use it for data mining even if you delete your account.)
Speakeasy is boggled by how the failed protest has spiraled out of control. "The whole thing is a massive clusterfuck and i feel responsible, so can someone sort that shit out?" he implores in his Pastebin document. "An attack on Facebook would be ridiculous," he explained in our chat. "Even if it succeeded, Facebook has a lot of users, and we want to help people, not hurt them."
