There's nothing like XP's performance when talking about Windows.

Sadly, I am using 7, but I do not recommend you this OP, I have no problems since my PC can handle it, but I will tell you that if my PC had XP, I would be able to fly with it.

if you have uber pc(more than 4gb of ram and uber gpu at least) use win 7, else stay with xp(difference between xp and 7 on 4gb of ram will be probably unnoticeable, that ~800 mb more 7 can support will be wasted by its services xD, anyway I managed to start force 7 to use less than 400mb, but it was kind of extreme rip, modded install can give even better results but...)

dont read this, its full of shit, seriously

First of all Windows sucks in all actuality, I have dual boot on my computer
and I must say that Windows is just a waste of everything, Takes up TOO much
space, wastes RAM like if it had a lot, the OS(it's not called OP, the fuck
is OP?)is clunky, really Windows just throws every bit of resources out the window,
let me show you space consumption between Ubuntu Lucid Lynx and Windows Vista

the green is Windows Vista and the Dark Blue is Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, now
sure Ubuntu does not meet the "Gaming Requirements" that few people need
but in overall as a Daily use Basic/Development/Programing Computer, Linux
just Beats them all, I'm saying this based on my personal experience, I've
used many Windows OS all the way from 2000 to 7 and if I had to pick which
of these Windows OS is best I would pick XP, 7 is great(if you like nice(
yet Clunky)) OS, but XP just operates better and IMO it's much easer to use
all in all XP is best even if all Windows are a piece of waste.

Conclusion
If you want an All-around OS that has Performance and looks nice and smooth
then you should try Ubuntu, you can go to Ubuntu homepage | Ubuntu and check it out,
why pay for a piece of waste when you can have a piece of useful that is
totally free.
P.S.
I do have MS on my computer but that's only for some programs/games.
also both OS have the basic softwares installed like AVs, Browsers and such.

Yeah, Linux is better than windows for everything except hardcore gaming.
You can still play steam games and stuff like that on Linux, but you have to turn down the quality or you'll crash.

Installing things if you have a Debian or Ubuntu based distro is just
Code:
sudo apt-get install

You can delete, copy, and move files through the terminal.
Check, kill, change, and restart processes through the terminal.

It has better customization, supports multiple workspaces, easier customization, is better for hosting, and is stronger for programming.

Most servers run on Linux because they don't have to be restarted as much as windows. They don't start to bog down like windows, they don't freeze up like window, and they don't suck like windows.

Also not as many viruses as windows. Chances of you getting a virus is like 1%.

I agree with the post above this one except that I don't use Ubuntu.
I had xubununtu, but then I switched to a distro based on Debian.

(Yes I know that Ubuntu was based off of Debian, but it's changed so much that it's its own OS now.)

If you want an All-around OS that has Performance and looks nice and smooth

Linux is a kernel not an OS.
The distro is the OS.

Thanks for that little info, didn't really know and thought it was an OS.

Now about Debian, it's an awesome OS, but it's too technical basically it
lack some abilities to detect hardware so something like my nVidia card,
will not be detected thus leaving me to manually install it which will only
take a visit to their forums or IRC and get it installed, most to all of
these Distros have an awesome community that is very helpful.

Basically Debian is slightly less user friendly than other OS and xubuntu
is derivative of Ubuntu, basically made for older machines since xubuntu
is a lighter OS, the real downside of Debian is, their 5 disk download of
4.3GB each other than that it's good.

About the viruses, man I use Ubuntu to remove some light viruses from MS,
since Ubuntu has all access to MS files(MS has NO access to Ubuntu files)
I can change, edit and delete the virus(not if it infects a DLL file, since
it can cause a fatal error on MS), like Shiimi said the chance to catch a
virus is like 1%, imagine that the only Anti-Virus on Ubuntu is KlamAV and
ClamTKAV that I know so far!

Enough said, Linux > Windows, so do yourself a favor and look no further,
When in doubt Linux is the way out! LOL

Shiimi can you point out to me the 'other' Debian based OS other than Ubuntu?
Once you use Ubuntu or any other OS you will burn your couch and
throw it out the window yelling, "This is better than MS and it's
free!!?!?!?!?". I know I did!! LOL

You can delete, copy, and move files through the terminal.

Yea, guess what?

Code:
DELETE test.txt
COPY test2.txt test.txt
MOVE test2.txt test3.txt

No. Windows does not "bog down" unless you install everything from Yahoo toolbars to Bonzi Buddies. Vista and 7 handle disk defragmentation automatically, which is a weak point of NTFS thus eliminating any slowness.

Seeing how you're such a huge fan of Linux and that Windows is the reincarnation of Satan, could you at least use a font that is somewhat readable in Linux...?

Then can you explain why Some Companies Using Linux those companies all use linux servers?

And why a lot of people who's ot server is hosted on windows get happy when there server is up for a few days without restarting?

When you run on windows you have to restart after a while because your computer starts to slow down, a lot of people reinstall because there computer starts to go slow, and when you install some programs you have to reboot.
On linux the only thing you have to reboot after is updating your os and some parts of the kernel.

On windows you have to go to a site to download something.
On linux you just open the terminal and type
Code:
sudo apt-get install ...
without putting any work in.
You can update your OS for free by just typing the update command.

Microsoft OSes are expensive as hell and they still suck.
Linux is free and it's open source. Meaning you can make your own by just editing the source and compiling.

What? When did I ever doubt the superiority of Linux as a server platform?

When you run on windows you have to restart after a while because your computer starts to slow down
Bullshit. And really, the last 3 times I've updated my desktop computer running Fedora, its wanted me to reboot (and no, those were not kernel updates either).

Yes, good luck with that when nobody has packaged application X or library Y for your distribution or the version in the repositories is half a year old or if your distribution can't provide it for copyright reasons.

Package management is great, but not as flawless as you think it is.

Microsoft OSes are expensive as hell and they still suck.
Stop drinking the Kool-Aid. Windows 7 is an excellent desktop operating system for anybody.

Linux is free and it's open source.
And it comes at a price: use an ATi graphics card? Congrats, you're fucked in regards to drivers. Hardware X or Y doesn't work out of the box? Have fun browsing Google for possibly hours. WINE doesn't support that one application that you really need? Better have a good enough computer to virtualize Windows in a VM!
