What "killed" RL Tibia for YOU?

Did you train with people at depot back then? I spent a lot of time training at venore depot. You just had to yell ur skills+ level and after awhile someone answered for sure. We had many ppl training there. It was easy because you didn't need party or anything.

It was fine as paladin with other players stealing your spears sometimes. You wouldn't believe it now but most people respected. When others saw who took them, they got attacked for sure, as thiefs always were.

And as your skills got better, lower paladins looked up to you. Haha, that was funny as kids. For such a simple thing.

Almost nobody trained there anymore after skull system. It was abused from the start. So it just vanished rather quickly.

That was sad. I always had fun there, skilling with other paladins, meeting new and different players all the time.
I trained with rotworms in greenshore and/or minotaurs all the way, since back then you didn't need to hit the creature every 60s to advance, either that or a druid friend summoned a monk while he was fishing, so we sat there chatting while he made runes..The only time I did train with somebody was a 2-3hours session with a famous guy of my town who at the time was lvl 80+ knight.
I couldn't hit him side by side, so I asked if I could take some distance and try full attack, I was really surprised to see I got some juicy hits, like a couple of 30s and a 50 so nothing to even scratch him at that lvl but I was so excited I could even hit him with a SPEAR.

I would have loved to know about venore training, I was so scared to travel because of luring experiences so I never moved much farther than Greenshore-Mount Sternum and ocasionally, Cyc camp south of thais. I miss those days, I know it will never be the same even if I go back in time..The excitement of discovering the game step by step is something that will never come back..

Well, it wasn't really forced. We were happy to commune with a lot of ppl from the other side of the world. It was something new and exciting.

Maybe today we live so much more connected through all type of different channels that we prefer to spend our private time more separately.

Or it's all just simply part of growing older. xD

You asked a very simple question: we are slowly getting older, it is more fun for me to meet people and spend even more time with some girl than killing another dwarf in some underground catacombs - Tibia was killed by my age. All the time I consider this game to be something beautiful, the game has a very extended world but this world consumes your private time. Thanks to Tibia I found a hobby - programming and I still program for pleasure in different languages. The guys from CipSoft don't even know how many talents were born because we all wanted to learn programming, graphics or creating websites to create the best server. But I still sometimes play some games that don't take much time: need for speed or forza horizon 4.

I would like to add that in this game I lack a specific character class development system. Skill tree, deciding what to spend a skill point on. I got the feeling that I'm getting meaningless levels just to get more HP and mana.

I'd choose killing another dwarf any time!

It's funny how we all acknowledge things like hotkeys to have killed tibia. But it's not really true.

Hotkeys didn't kill Tibia, botters did. Adding those was simply one their best options at the time.

Even 15 years later ots still struggle with bots despite of playing on a much smaller scale. There's nothing that made more players quit than botters have.

Yes, to a point where there's more bots online than real players. Something we all recognize on ot servers to this day.

Did you ever question the sudden boom in online numbers from Tibia in it's prime days?
How many of those do you think were actual players?

It's funny how you go against all acknowledgement of the members that said so in this thread. Things like that did kill Tibia, or at least the very original vibe it had back in the day.

Adding hotkeys was the one of the worst things they could do, it made people even more lazy and turned the game into a "slam your keyboard" only game, where you don't need to aim anymore because why miss a rune when you can just aimbot it there pixel perfect with that game-bot? Everyone's skills went just down the drain with all the love people had for the game.

You can go actively or passively against bots, 15 years later people haven't become any smarter mainly because they don't really care about going against botters, server owners are most of the times just looking for money, in the end of the run. :)

There are plenty of ways to go against botting, there are also ways to discourage those using it.

To my understanding Tibia has died twice.

FIRST: Hotkeys, stamina, soulpoints and runes at NPC
SECOND: New PVP, cooldowns, offline trainers and tibia coins.

I love how Tibia plays now, I find it quite enjoyable having started just before the introduction of the skull system. What made me quit primarily were the hardcore racist "dominado" guilds (looking at you Os, Supremazia, Dinastia, etc). Not a Br? Don't speak some SA language? Guess what you aren't allowed to hunt anymore. The introduction of the "Character Marketplace" I thought was pretty stupid as well. There also hasn't been a great update since what LB, or PH? It's become very obvious that CIP is only out to improve the experience of players belonging to dominados, and having an average character level over 600.

I've been hoping for TFS to advance to a state near to current game version 12+, as I have no interest in playing an extreme retro 8.6 or lower server, and 10.98 just doesn't play very well. So for now I work on maps, and think about quest-lines.

The only thing that would get me back on real-Tibs would be if the dominados were destroyed permanently.

ex PVP server player here
I believed that it is for the greater good when they added the hotkeys and I kept on playing, everyone was botting already anyway.
I tried to stay convinced it's just an unfortunate decision when they made it 20 frags/kill and they will unwind it somehow after they realize the impact it had on the community - and I kept on playing.
We learned how to make defenses that you cannot swap out of, we learned that even tho we had limited frags, we had unlimited potential to mess with enemies through monster healing and using the "e" from PVE in PVP, which if executed properly, would lead to the full death penalty of the target - this, combined with 1x loot and exp still created somehow harsh environment, in which you had to consider other players.
We adapted, and we had fun even though.

To everyone's surprise, Cip acknowledged their mistakes at some point and told us that they are going to change the PVP again next update.

And they did, and they did it even worse.
Then I gave up.

When they did the vocation balancing. Dont remember exact version. 7.92? 8.0?
I just remember the day on test server, where everyone said "this must be a joke, or a mistake", "They will change it back for sure"
But never did. And thats the day tibia really died for me. Sure, I did play for a while afterwards, but it wasnt fun anymore. You never noticed your damage go up as you leveld up. Now if im not mistaken, unless they changed the formula for SDS again, you gained 20 dmg for every 100 levels. Which was a joke compared to what it was before the vocation balance.
Change from the existing formula was necessary though as players were leveling up faster and getting to higher and higher levels. The existing damage formulas were level based and if you look at any true oldschool ot you can see how absolutely broken that is if the exp rates allow players to reach over lvl 100. PVP is broken at those levels with the 7.x damage formulas if you can even call it PVP at that point.

Cip did a really bad job though, and doubled down on it instead of fixing it, and now the whole game has pretty much rebalanced itself around these new formulas so whatever, it works now.

In my opinion and something i've been working on for almost 2 years is that scaling damage should based on level with diminishing returns and scaling damage based on skills/ml with increasing returns. So for each level a player gets it's not worth as much damage as the last, but opposite for skills/ml. These formulas are insanely tricky to get right and scale well depending on exp rate, im still not happy after 2 years but i'll get there one day.

What killed rl tibia in my opinion: the price.

In Brazil, it costs around 60~ reais (our currency) for a month of premium time. I have a good job (sw engineer in a big company) and I have money to pay for it, but I don't have courage to pay this amount every month just to play few hours per week. Just to compare, with 120 reais (two months of premium time) I can buy more than 1 year of PS Plus in my ps4 and also receive at least two games for free every month (and many of them are very good games).
Just a note: real (our currency) has less than 1/5 dollar value (1 dollar is 5.47 reais at the moment) , this is why we think it's so expensive.

Tibia is not a cheap game to play just for fun.

it mostly depends on your level (I used to do that on a pally lvl 160~) and how you play the game, I don't know nowadays but only by doing warzone and a few daily bosses the majority of players can pay premium with in-game money (by buying tibia coins->premy), without even wasting more than 2 hours of gameplay

Are you the Evil Puncker from Trimera? If so, that's pretty cool. I used to watch you run around Edron and Venore with others like Relic and other FS members. Good times....

Nothing really killed Tibia for me, I just ran out of time to play. Real life priorities take precedence over Tibia. If I had to pin-point one flaw, it would be the amount of time it took to prepare for the hunts and travel time to get to the good hunting grounds.

nope, just a fan without creativity to think my own nick when I created this account way back in 2009 😁

when the game is not easy enough yet:

what killed for me was the fact people take it as a job and i literally hate it. you cant have fun because a fckng """"""leader"""""""" is hunting for 10 hours to make tibia coins

I don't think Tibia died with those doubles.

In reality it has its 20k online fixed, but the guys that come and go just to make a boss, if you are going to gather all these people you should get close to 30-40k day.

This event is likely to break the 40k + record that hit last year.
