Ascalon - The revival

Basically the stuff I mentioned before (map, quests, bosses, anti-cavebot).
Vocation balancing is possible when the server is running.

  • Exp rate was a bit too fast before lvl 200 (lower it a bit and it's fine). After lvl 200 exp rate was too slow and the game became too grindy (there also was not enough content then)
  • Questing is fun and keeps ppl challenged, one of the reasons I loved playing ascalon were the cool quests. You sometimes needed a big team for them, which was awesome! So adding more epic quests on later stages just brings the whole server to new heights.
  • World bosses: I was missing the bosses like on real tibia (Ferumbras, Morgaroth, Ghazbaran, Gaz'haragoth, ...). Let those bosses spawn from time to time, they are fun to kill and you could add some system that goes with it like ranks, missions, ... idk (that's just an extra). If ur really into it, make boss fights challenging, make some custom bosses with one shot mechanics like Gaz, like a straight beam that can oneshot ppl. Or a shout with a devastating aoe wave right after.
  • Care with the Itemshop (there are games that survive easily by selling cosmetics only, i'm just saying). You need to rlly think out how much you want it to influence the gameplay. Cuz small stats and stuff in itemshop can have big effects ingame :)
  • Skulled mobs / generals should drop more.
  • Cavebot: Ascalon is playable without bots etc, it's rlly not cool if u see cavebotters afking in ur cave. It's important to move against botters.
  1. Appoint tutors, senior tutors (ppl that help new ppl but also help look for botters and pm gms)
  2. GM's that check for cavebotters from time to time (usually you know fast who the cavebotters are, they are not hard to spot)
  3. Maybe an "anti-cavebotchannel" where ppl can report botters and where others can reply
  4. Make teamhunting in harder zones more rewarding
  • We need some more bigger pg zones (like roshamuul, oramond, zao on real tibia), I love hunting in a team of 4+ ppl (dungeonssss were epic). So besides the dungeons I like to exp vs big groups of mobs in a team. If there are some big spots where big groups of mobs spawn, that would be brilliant! Think about a good party exp bonus that makes group hunting more appealing.

I remember some ot which had metin stones that spawned randomly, there were different kinds and they all spawned their own mobs and had some kind of special attack. You always needed a few players to kill it and counter the healing (some were rlly hard to kill). Afterwards you could get some nice loot / tokens. Maybe you could make something like this ~just some ideas...

Personally I "disliked" the starting town wasteland. If you've seen the not-so-good maps here on otland and you compare them to the ascalon towns, yeah most towns on the server don't even come close... Make a clear capital city where players can gather and hang out, some smaller cities and idyllic villages yay!

I think that you should remake the sharpshooter. After seasons nr 2 & 3 I can tell you that players dont like the vocation.
I saw only 3 or 4 in game. Would be nice if you add an advanced fishing system(after lvl 70 the best you can get is skill fish).
You could add boss summon chance or catch rusty items[random ones when you use rusty remover on rusty piece].

@xAvatarx
Honestly Sharpshooter is really cool. Sure you don't get the big numbers like assassin, (Swag) but you have more dps.

@Gaal
@Tico Newgate has made a nice long and informative post on what can be done. Start from there and when done or almost done ask for more.

Something I like is the idea of a world boss, make it a raid type boss (need more people to kill) and with 100% chance to drop SOMETHING. Ex: G4 Sword/X-Bow/Wand
Then people just give it to the one that needs it.

The bosses in previous eras kinda sucked. I afk killed some and some when I was watching TV. Make them intresting and not soloable.

A couple of bosses had some interesting mechanics for example that ancient scarab boss comes to mind but sure some other bosses felt like they just had a ton of hp and you could sit there and hold down your buttons.

I really liked the raid system too since there was always a reason to do them.

I remember this raid being quite hard and it took hours to kill but that might've been just cuz I had to solo it

Looking forward to be playing on ascalon again, hopefully it's online soon ;)

the funniest thing is that the entire datas are worth about 100$ if even. If a good programmer like shawn would sit down and rewrite ascalon8which would imo be a waste of a time) he would be done with it in under a week.

@up
We are not rewriting it.
New content is being added and
existing scripts and systems are getting an edit.

The raid system is the same.
More raids and the bosses are diffrent.

Progress is quite good so the plan is to open Ascalon soon.
It takes time to build something good, sorry for that guys
I like the hype on this topic, makes me feel I'm doing the right thing :)

Some of all of the ideas written on this thread are already in the game.
Some will be added in the future.
Thank you for the contribution everyone :D

Well,
The plan is to open the server without a beta
after the testing, bug fixing and setup is finished.
Unfortunately we dont have enough time to put on the server
and thats why it takes so long :-/

My guess is 10/7 or few days later (depends on the advertising method)

As suggested before, please try to change the most possible content from the beginning til the end.
This is because at least 200 people already played the same content all over and over, they know EXACTLY what to do in order to level, to find the same quests, so well I guess it will be awesome if you surprise us with that change so we could at least enjoy the beginning just like the new people that will play. At least as an experimented player, I know what to do to reach 300-350 level, besides following the task-line and the "hidden quests" well, not to mention there are not secrets anymore in Ascalon, please try to make this Era a "new one" for all the audience.

Greetings, Liro.

PS. Im expecting some more images to see hows everything going (we all want to see some fapimages)

Really great news! I hope that there will be no more resets. GL with testing!

~A very very small look on the new lands (Torvora & Cryalk Highlands).
You can see the city and the boat that leads to the city and area of Torvora from the mainland.
This area is the last big land and is accessible after reaching level 500 (there are 3 big lands now)
Since the level req most of this area is not active and not ready
But after the server starts, I will focus on this area.

~The second area (Cryalk Highlands) is accessible by boat on the east area of the mainland.
This area is semi big (imo) and full with alot of new content.
There's a friendly camp there and you can pass it to get to the (Deadlands) and the deep highlands.

~Magic Herbs
Some of the new things on Ascalon is "magic herbs".
You can get from quests, chests or you can buy them from
2 npcs located in "City of Torvora" and "Ridgefire Camp"
(Using a new currency obtained from some monsters, events and quests).
There are 15 herbs, eating each one does diffrent things.
(example - +3 ML for 1 hour).

~There are now 2x more recipes and more being added.

~New materials - purple powder, adamantine and yellow sulphur.

This is just some of the content, I'll post something each few days from now on...
:)

This is what I like to see! I look forward to seeing more of it over the coming weeks.

Looking good :)

Keep it up!

>> don't forget big area pg spots (with much mobs for teamhunts) :D

We decided to run tests without using help from players or future players.
The main reason for that is that I want to keep the mystery on.
The goal is to finish to fix all the bad work I did and some of the old team members mistakes.
I'm putting alot of time on this project but the truth is that it's alot of work
and oviecly its not a one-man-job, but the work is almost done for the first update part.
After we start to run the server, I will have time to just add new content + extend and fix systems like
~Crafting
~Herb Merging
~Gems & Stones upgrade
~Spells
~PvP
~PvE
~Event & Raid

Hopefully we will add more team members soon :)

It's going to take a lot to make this server not die within 2 weeks again..

What has really changed? Is it the same exact spells we see over and over? the same exact PvP? The same starting city, with the same hidden quests? the same loot? The same addon requirements? The same progression as before? No new classes, revamped spells, changed things?
What is going to bring back a player who reached end-game last time? What is new and exciting to make those who grinded weeks for outfits want to re-do the same exact grind? or has it changed?

My issues with last launch - East and southern city don't offer near as much as the first city, in pretty much every aspect. The first city you learn the server, you're doing addon quests, learning about gems and what-not. Many places to check out, then 2nd city comes. really, can't say anything new here. And the 3rd city is the worst in terms of it's size and huntable spawns/exploration. I'm not saying the content within the continents are bad. Me and my team LOVED the undead quest and what-not.. I'm just saying there is too little content. Doing quests to learn spells is awesome, why not add more of those in. Doesn't need to be some crazy insane spell. Also, i can't exactly remember what level I was.. I had done every quest except for the slimes. (yes even sands of time) Why isn't there quests like that all throughout? I really felt like it was starting to get old during city 2 and 3. There was never any PvP either, because what was the point? you gained literally nothing and lost nothing. At some point i heard about 400+ content. But i wasn't about to grind for 3 weeks, 10 hours a day, just to get level 400, only to do quests. And find nothing unique there. I ran out of things to do quickly, with no PvP interaction to slow down my leveling the server became dead and easy within a week or two.

My issues with coming back - Here is my biggest concerns with coming back, as well as my teams. We know everything. We know what quests do what, we know the vocs, we know the spells we get, we know which gems to use, how to kill each boss, you get the point. So what is waiting for us? level 500 content? So we have to grind weeks of the same content we've done countless times just to experience a new zone? The same tier system for gear? What is new and fresh, what is there to discover for the people who play each season.

Suggestions - i'll keep it short. Do something new to the spells. Change/add vocs. Change/add quests. Change/add gems. Change/add to the armor system, Change/add to the recipes. Change/add the hidden quests and rewards. Change/add the amt of addon items and how you get them. Change/add to each mapped area, perhaps making each city bigger. Also you can try scaling the Exp down a bit if needed, So for instance. There is quests for level 440, 450, 460, and 470.. Where 440-450 would be equivalent to 440-460 in previous era, this is just an example, so there isn't level 700's running around but you can still keep people leveling and keep it meaningful

Obviously you can't change all of those things, it would take an immense amount of time. But there has to be something new besides level 500 content and what-not if anyone i know is going to be playing ascalon again. Especially since it is usually very boring PvP wise, and dies down quickly (nothing to do). Just need to find things for people to do. Create an entire casino, add more events, add more types of skills for people to work on and show off.. just need something to keep people entertained as the content dies quickly.

Hopefully you read it all, and goodluck
