Yesterday my friends server got pinged by a Polak;)

Is there any good protection program.. also

a firewall but it doesn't help alot... there's experienced pingers...that pings the server 24/7

Is there any nice/good protection for this

Seriously, using Vista as a server? Thats stupid.

If using Windows, the worse scenario, use XP, or server 2008 or 2003.

Windows:
1st: Windows SE 2000 (best - Stripped down to 50mb ram usage, don't got the thousons of useless aps that comes with windows, just recently got dual core support with 32bit)
2nd: Windows SE 2003
3rd: Windows XP
4th: Windows SE 2008

The best servers will probably always be Linux based though.

Find your computer - Search available drivers. You should atleast have drivers to XP, so uninstall vista, and get XP.

I have ots running on Debian Etch.
I use very simple scripts for banning ddosing users.
It checcks open connections count and if it's higher than 50 it bans IP for 1 hour :)
Works well in cron :)

comodo firewall will work, but the reason most people cant get it working, is because they got a router, and the router will go down if the traffic is too high. My router got firewall settings too, such has drop icmp, ghost ping and dos protection, it works, but the router is so full of traffic the net wont work. if u connect your wire directly into ur wall, they cant ping u if u use firewall.

Acually mate, no firewall will help you Windows XP already blocked "pinging" pinging doesnt even do anything the one who attack you might have used some more advanced DDOS?

like, Mstream? powerfull php shells? Contact some big guys like your ISP and you might get helped
