isnt the exp rate a little high btw? old tibia wasn't exactly balanced around characters to reach above lvl 100. And if i remeber correctly this server has a decent amount of lower level rpg elements that will probably be skipped if you level too quickly.

It won't be skipped cuz the exp-rate is high. It will be a part but you will feel advance while leveling. The monsters are not so easy and also the runes aren't very cheap. Therefor you will feel a balance in the vocations.
Also it's staged so by higher level - lower exp. You reach endgame at level 160 (if you get there) and you will level x1. That will keep players in the same level instance.

Rune-shop, you could either buy in each rune/each fluid or in backpacks.
You can also make runes, and its only based on magic level and mana, just like in 7.72.
