As far as I can understand from the "fault message" the user you connects with is not allowed to use the "SELECT command" are you sure you made a new root user with all priviliges as mentioned by DOminique~ If thats not the case I have no clue on how to solve this, good luch though!

Yea I had the original file and as he havent changed anything else in the layout.php file we just replaced it :) Had to do with some javascript he tried to add though
