Script and tutorial to automate install of "Leaked" 7.70 server

What commands? The 777 command showed nothing, which you said probably means commands work, but it doesn't matter when the game folder isn't showing up anywhere (which is the problem). The nautilus one worked, it showed me deep files that I've never accessed before. But on my last install I had the game folder. I used it for example when I added the magic system changes, which you told me exactly how to do. Here's a quote from your post about it on page 5 of this thread: "All you need to do is to replace your "/home/game/bin/game" with the "game" file, and the "/home/game/npc" with the "npc" folder."
And I did that, so that's proof that I had access to server files like that last time, and I did not use nautilus to do it, the files were readibly available like any other normal folder. It was sitting in the home folder, next to a bunch of other folders. I attached a picture of it, where you can see that there is no game folder, despite that being where it was last time when I did edit files there. I also added the 777 result as it appears to be what you asked for.
Edit: Getema reminded me of the solution for this one, the game folder has been found again :)
(It's in another "home" folder. Other locations>computer>home>game. Not sure what the terminal path would be. "Other locations" has a space, would that even work in file paths? I feel like I must've made it work before, as I threw the launch scripts in there then to have all the server stuff together, but I don't recall ever putting "other locations" in the path when I accessed them.
I was referring to the 2 commands I sent in my previous message:

Code:
sudo -i
cd /home/game ; nautilus .

I don't remember asking you to use "chmod 777" anywhere, and as I said before, the game folder is irrelevant for now.

Well, good thing we're all entitled to our opinions, especially as you didn't even provide any counter-argument. I pointed out a lot of terrible things and all you said was "that's not a good argument", without explaining why you think so. Also, feel free to explain how they are just tools and how that undoes my concerns about them. In the meantime, I hope you can understand how this isn't enough to give up my principles.
My counter-argument was implicit in my message in which I say that the AI chatbots are just tools, and like any other tool can be used for good or bad. You're logic isn't much different than saying that you're against computers because people can use for hacking, or for enabling people to use AI apps. If you knew how the AI works, you wouldn't be so concerned, because you would understand that some of its impact is not at the AI's fault, but people's (or even the "system's") fault.

I'm unsure how easily I could get a router right now, I don't think I have anyone who could borrow me one or something. But I assume I could just plug my old one in? It was causing issues, but when I was just using my pc at home I had no problems, just with some LAN connection stuff, like everyone didn't show up or something (iirc). And I don't think I ever did any kind of setup, you just plug one cable into the pc and router, and one into the router and wall, and then you use the internet. Maybe I could do that and then see what IP I get?
Yes, but only after you edit the client executable and try to login with a char.

But you said "whether I get a different private IP", which must be on Ubuntu. So I assume this means that plugging in my router should mean that my Ubuntu IP changes? What changes do I need to do to Ubuntu when I try it? Do I need to reinstall? Rollback a snapshot? Reinstall the server? Change network method? Or simply just reboot my Ubuntu VM?
For now, just connect the router and check your IPs (public and private) on Ubuntu - if it doesn't change, reboot it. No need to reinstall or rollback (for now, might do later). Keep using Bridged Adapter. Your Windows might also get a different IP, but that doesn't matter.

To do what? Look at the network on my pc and hopefully tell me why specifically it doesn't give me a connectable IP on my VirtualBox?
Yes, to try to understand your network structure and try to get the correct IP on Ubuntu. But see this option as the last resort.

(quoting broke again)
"In simple terms, a mobile hotspot is when you connect your smartphone to 4G/5G"

Alright, I get the idea now, the point of it seems straight forward enough. But I still have no clue how to do it, and doubt I can succeed when my smartphone knowledge and handling is almost as poor as my programming or whatever you'd call all of this. 4G/5G is some kind of phone internet related stuff, right? Like radiowave internet or something? I know it has towers that conspiracy theorists wanted to knock down, and if I'm not mistaken, such towers emit radiowaves or something of the sort. I'm pretty sure they're even called "radio towers".
Ask Bard. Ignore the conspiracies.

(I swear this stuff picks and chooses when it does a proper quote and when it just gives me a regular copied text)
"The problem here is that you're looking at my constructive criticisms as if they were insults. That couldn't be further from the truth. Have a quick look back at all the messages we exchanged in this thread. Does it really look like that my intention was to offend someone? I really hope you can see that I'm not only giving technical advice, but also going way out of my way to give even general life advice. I want you to succeed, not just at setting up your own server, but also at becoming a better person than before you sent your first message in this thread."

I know that your intentions have been good, even when things sound harsh, which is why I've done my best to deal with it, despite being so fragile. But things can still be received poorly (or misinterpreted like the AI "insult" thing) and hurt regardless of the intention. Even in this paragraph it sounds like you're insulting my person and insinuating that I'm some shitty loser who needs to be better. Being given life advice when you didn't ask for any or thought you needed it can it fact really hurt someone who has pride and struggles with self-confidence. Meaning well isn't always enough. I just want my OT so I can avoid people as it never works out for me with them, even if they're actually being nice for a change. Which by the way gives me anxiety and makes me feel undeserving :<
I'm giving those advices because I believe they'll help you follow the instructions better and achieve your goal quicker. If you take them personally or see them as a blow to your self-esteem, then you need to work on that.

"Maybe you're just seeing things in life through a bad pair of lenses, hence why everything looks so bad. I've been there, and I personally know many people who are currently there too. The good news is that these lenses can be replaced, but you need to see a professional for that - I mean a psychiatrist, not an ophthalmologist. Again, not an insult, just a genuine attempt to help."

I do, but that's the result of everything having always been bad. Eventually it becomes all you know, and you see the dark and rotten in everything in life, and develop a sort of immunity to all that is good. If something is ever good and makes me happy, it lasts for a few seconds and then I feel a lot more crap than usual, because my brain is so trained to suffer that if something is good it sees it as something erratic and reacts accordingly. Good stuff is literally bad for me. So, yes, I'm very aware that I need therapy. I've tried to get it for many years, and earlier this year I finally got a shrink. The only shrink on the planet who only offered cognitive behavioral therapy, which doesn't even scratch the surface of the things I need help with the most, so I was basically kicked out after a few months because they "had no more help to offer", when we had hardly even touched on anything I want help with. But yeah, maybe next time. And that was actually the one thing that did seem like an attempt to help, and not an insult. But let's get back to solving this OT situation instead of me airing my dirty laundry on a Tibia forum because I can never shut up when people talk about anything where I have something to say :p
I'm glad you're seeking help.

I tried my router. It has an internet symbol and a check mark, along with the power symbol and the numbers for each pc connected to it (just to clarify; this is on the router itself, so I can't take a screenshot of this one). The internet symbol goes green, as does the slot I plugged my pc into, but the checkmark goes orange and then turns off. So for some reason it can't send the internet to my pc, or whatever. When I try to use the network diagnostic repair thing, it doesn't find what the problem is, it just says there's no internet. But it did give me the network. So, I guess my router is just too busted.
I noticed in the network that on "IP settings" I can choose "Automatic (DHCP)" or "Manual". Perhaps changing it to manual and doing something there could have a positive effect on the IP issues? This is on Windows, not Ubuntu.
If you're not getting Internet with your old router, let's put it aside for now. Don't change any network settings on your own.

I also did a bunch more googling, and I've found a million people with a million similar issues, but nothing that sounds exactly like mine, and not many things I've understood enough or that seemed like possible solutions.
Yeah, that's why I keep suggesting ChatGPT and Bard, because you can ask questions for your exact situation and get instant response.

One thing I tried was to turn off the firewall and then connect to the server, as some guy with a problem that seemed very similar said he found that his firewall blocking something was the problem. But of course it didn't help for me. I found a site that seems to be the official one of VirtualBox, where people have gotten help with a lot of these issues. I'm considering making a post there to see if they can shed some light on the problem.
Don't change any network settings on your own.

I was referring to the 2 commands I sent in my previous message:

Oh, you counted the nautilus one as two. But that was pointless, I told you it worked and there's literally no reason to go down into those files. Unless there's some kind of future edit in the cards that requires access there, and which I could actually pull off. But that seems unlikely to be a thing.

I suppose the difference is that a computer is similar to if someone would let's say tear up a mailbox and try to bash people with it, while AI is more like creating a gun and then trying to downplay the damage it can do. No one is blaming the gun either, they're blaming the people, and the AI is made for people to use. And they use it to do a bunch of bad things that was hardly (or entirely not) even possible before. And this is just the beginning, who knows what creative ways they will find to use it for evil in the future. All for what, so people can google faster?

Yes, but only after you edit the client executable and try to login with a char.

You mean if the router had worked I could only try to get a new IP with it if I did the hex editing first? Why? If it gives me a new IP I see no reason to believe the IP-changer isn't good enough.

Yes, to try to understand your network structure and try to get the correct IP on Ubuntu. But see this option as the last resort.

I wish there were still options that didn't seem like last resorts :/

Ask Bard. Ignore the conspiracies.

I've said my piece about Bard and his ilk. I googled "what is 4g" and it immediately told me it's just the basic phone stuff, which makes sense with the radio towers. So now I'm confused why the hotspot thing uses a phone connection for internet, which is something different.

If you're not getting Internet with your old router, let's put it aside for now. Don't change any network settings on your own.

I won't touch the settings, I was just pointing them out in case you thought they'd be relevant for finding the solution. I didn't dare to do anything worse than simply turning off my firewall for a minute to see if it blocked anything.

I didn't get a chance to check the hex editor today (and the mere thought of doing it makes me shudder anyway), but I'll try to have a look tomorrow. I suppose aside from that we're dead in the water now? My last chance to get an OT relies on figuring out some space technology? And even if I pull it off it's still a long shot that it actually makes a difference. Which isn't exactly the greatest motivator, considering that the IP-changer seems to work for everyone else, and now I have to do mission impossible here just for some small chance that it makes a difference (which this kind of stuff always has a million of, and hardly ever does any of them make a difference at all). What's my next step after that, other than giving up? And if the answer is "ask Bard" I will just headbash the wall until I have no braincells left and then I'll suggest that the original post is edited to say "If you encounter any issues or have any questions, ask Bard" :/

Exactly. A tool will always be a double edged sword. Computers are as harmful as guns if used with "evil intentions" - I've personally seen a hospital having its entire systems shut down for a week by hackers asking for ransom. Before the telephone or the Internet, it was much harder for criminals to communicate with each other. Should we stop using technology altogether and go back to the dark ages? No, because fortunately they're used way more for good than for evil.

I repeat: AI is not the problem, and you're having an exaggerated negative view on its ramifications. Also, it's not like I'm asking you to become dependent on Bard. You can totally ask a few questions about basic Ubuntu usage and stop using it if the answers aren't too helpful.

You mean if the router had worked I could only try to get a new IP with it if I did the hex editing first? Why? If it gives me a new IP I see no reason to believe the IP-changer isn't good enough.
Because I don't know what the IP changer is actually doing, but I know what the hex editor does.

I've said my piece about Bard and his ilk. I googled "what is 4g" and it immediately told me it's just the basic phone stuff, which makes sense with the radio towers. So now I'm confused why the hotspot thing uses a phone connection for internet, which is something different.
You don't need to know what 4G is. Just ask Bard / search "how to set up mobile hotspot on my smartphone?". That's not needed now though, let's test the hex editor first.

I won't touch the settings, I was just pointing them out in case you thought they'd be relevant for finding the solution. I didn't dare to do anything worse than simply turning off my firewall for a minute to see if it blocked anything.
We already confirmed that the packets sent by Windows are being received by Ubuntu, hence no need to change firewall settings for now.

You're calling "space technology" something that you haven't even tried yet. Using the hex editor is like using a notepad, but instead of changing letters in a text you're changing numbers in a binary file.

I'll suggest that the original post is edited to say "If you encounter any issues or have any questions, ask Bard" :/
That's what most people are already doing. You're the one not accepting the use of a tool that's available at your disposal because you seem to believe in a conspiracy, and I'm sure you're better than that. Don't believe in everything you read on the news, most articles are written by people who don't know how these technologies work or people who have other intentions.

Here's how to use the hex editor:
  • Take note of your Ubuntu's internal IP address. In this example, I'll use 192.168.1.12
  • After installing Tibia 7.70 on your Windows, go to the install folder (usually in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tibia")
  • Create a backup copy of your "Tibia.exe" file. For instance, I like to call it "Tibia-original.exe".
  • Go to this website: HexEd.it - Browser-based Online and Offline Hex Editing (https://hexed.it/)
  • Drag the "Tibia.exe" into the hex editor (in the video below I ended up copying the "Tibia-original.exe" instead, but that's just because it was the only file I had with the original URLs to show in this example).
  • Now, you'll need to do the next steps for each of the URLs below:
    • test.cipsoft.com
    • server.tibia.com
    • server2.tibia.com
    • tibia1.cipsoft.com
    • tibia2.cipsoft.com
  • In the Search for input, enter the URL
  • Click Find next
    • If you get an error saying "There is no data matching your search criteria", click Find previous instead.
  • The editor will highlight both the hexadecimal values (left column) and its text equivalent (right column) for the matched URL you just searched.
  • Click on the first character of the text column, then start typing your IP address.
  • Notice how there will be a few remaining highlighted hexadecimals in the left column. That's because your IP is shorter than the URL. Click on the first remaining highlighted hex value, then type 00 until all remaining highlighted hexadecimals are 00.
  • Repeat that with the next URL from the list above.
  • Once all 5 URLs have been replaced with your Ubuntu's IP, you can click Save as and replace your "Tibia.exe"
Now your Tibia client is pointing to your Ubuntu server.

I doubt people were as concerned about computers or phones are they are about AI. If in the future it has somehow done a bunch of good and not as much bad as expected, then maybe I'll one day accept it. But right now it's a new thing that seems worse for the world than most things have, and I won't support that development.

My friend actually put my whole issue into ChatGPT and sent the response to me, and it was a wall of mostly basic stuff like "check your network", "restart your VM". There were a couple of interesting commands I tried, of course to no avail. So it doesn't seem to be the key to fixing this, and I think it'd be easier to talk about it with a real person.

So if packets are being sent it means that the firewall can't be blocking something else in it? It either blocks absolutely everything or nothing at all?

You're calling "space technology" something that you haven't even tried yet. Using the hex editor is like using a notepad, but instead of changing letters in a text you're changing numbers in a binary file.

It's hard to guess if that's going to be fairly easy or very difficult, but most of all it sounds like something that would be easy to mess up, so I hope the instructions are very good.

That's what most people are already doing. You're the one not accepting the use of a tool that's available at your disposal because you seem to believe in a conspiracy, and I'm sure you're better than that. Don't believe in everything you read on the news, most articles are written by people who don't know how these technologies work or people who have other intentions.

I don't believe in things, I observe and analyze them and occasionally form an opinion, but mostly remain neutral. I haven't heard any conspiracy theories, just that a lot of big people (like scientists) begged for AI development to stop, because they were so concerned. And I'm concerned too, without having read much about any technology. But I have read about stuff it has done and can do.

Here's how to use the hex editor:

Well, this is a little sad. The instructions were amazing (thank you!) and after carefully looking at every part until I figured it out, I managed to do it all perfectly on the first attempt (at least by the looks of it) and it seemed really easy. But after I had replaced the first two urls, when I pasted the third one it was red instead of green. I know that in your gif it's all black and doesn't change color at all, but for me when I put the url in the "Search for" box it gets highlighted as green, I suppose to show that it exists somewhere in there. For the first url, I found it immediately by clicking "Find next". For the second one, I got the error and had to do "Find previous", and it was fine (I get how it works, I search for things in texts with ctrl+f all the time). Then when I pasted the third url, it was red, likely to suggest that it doesn't exist. Both next and previous gave me the error. The same thing happened with the remaining links. So it appears that for some reason only 2 of the 5 urls exist inside my Tibia. Could that be a hint about the real problem behind my failure to connect to my server? I would like to save the file and test it with only the 2 links done, but I don't want to risk messing anything up, so if that's worth a try I can simply redo the process after your reply and try saving it that time, as it was really fast and easy once you know what to do.
I wish I could do more now that it's easy and I have a bit of time, but I don't think missing files inside the very Tibia client is something I can do much about or even find information about anywhere.
Edit: I realized that the IP-changer could have maybe messed with my Tibia client, so I installed a fresh copy and tried again, and I had the same result. So this is a whole new mystery. Like, I see no way this could have anything to do with my IP or anything on my pc. It's just a freshly installed Tibia 7.7 client from the very link in your original post, and I assume others have successfully done this in theirs, yet for me those parts of it (the 3 last urls) are missing. How can this be?

People were concerned that computers would lead to widespread unemployment when it became popular in the 80s. Similar things are being said about AI. Yet here we are, with chatbots being used as a productivity tool instead of replacing hordes of workers. But you know who will likely lose their job? Those who refuse to use tools to get their job done faster. You don't want to be that person who refused to learn how to use a computer because journalists and scientists claimed it was worse for the world than most things have.

If you have the opportunity to deliver an essay using your computer but choose to do it by hand, you'll fall behind.
If you have the opportunity to go to a destination by car but choose to walk instead, you'll fall behind.
If you have the opportunity to ask AI chatbots but choose to ask in an online forum, you'll fall behind.

My friend actually put my whole issue into ChatGPT and sent the response to me, and it was a wall of mostly basic stuff like "check your network", "restart your VM". These are some of the questions you asked here, I basically put them into Bard or ChatGPT, and they answered immediately with the correct step-by-step instructions.

The point is, you asked several very basic questions here and had to wait for an entire day - sometimes even longer - which can be exhausting for both you and the repliers.
Some questions might be a bit harder to ask, but you can just keep asking it differently (you've already been doing it here anyway).

So if packets are being sent it means that the firewall can't be blocking something else in it? It either blocks absolutely everything or nothing at all?

That coincides with my very first search result:

However, you already executed commands to unblock the firewall in port 7171, so your firewall is not blocking that.

Elon Musk is a good example of a "big person" who was begging for the AI development to stop, only to announce its own AI company a few weeks later. One of the reasons AI was getting bashed so much before is because big companies were far behind in being competitive with initiatives like OpenAI, Midjourney and Stability.ai, so they used all kinds of negative arguments (some even false) to try to halt their development. Now that some of these same companies managed to catch up (Google and Facebook releasing their chatbot, Photoshop releasing Firefly), it seems that there are less and less bad news about AI lately. Welcome to the modern capitalist world.

We agreed that you would send screenshots when something doesn't go as planned. I have no idea what you're talking about.

If you're not finding all URLs, the only reasons I can think of are if:
  • you entered the wrong URL - if you pasted it, make sure it has no empty spaces before/after. If it still doesn't work, enter the URL manually.
  • you installed the wrong Tibia version - it must be exact 7.70, as other versions will have different URLs
  • you're editing the wrong file - it must be the Tibia.exe from inside your install folder (e.g.: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tibia"), and NOT the installer executable (which has the same name sometimes)
  • you're not paying enough attention to the gif

People were concerned that computers would lead to widespread unemployment when it became popular in the 80s.

It's too early to tell if AI will take over jobs, but it most likely will. That's not necessarily a bad thing though.
But anyway, I've been slowly falling behind my whole life, largely due to not being good with technology. It is what it is. Better go your own way than conform anyway.

These are some of the questions you asked here, I basically put them into Bard or ChatGPT, and they answered immediately with the correct step-by-step instructions.

Those are sort of small and straight forward questions. This whole situation with not reaching my IP is clearly a whole other beast. If the AI could fix it for us, wouldn't you already have put that in there too and resolved this a week ago?

"However, you already executed commands to unblock the firewall in port 7171, so your firewall is not blocking that."

Wow. I read that post and I have no memory of doing that firewall stuff. My currently subpar short term memory is really not good for this stuff, I really wish everything could just be done once and moved on from.

Elon Musk is a good example of a "big person" who was begging for the AI development to stop, only to announce its own AI company a few weeks later.

Elon Musk is eccentric as hell, he's the last person anyone should take seriously. But it sounds like you're saying that all advocates against AI had agendas leading back to tech companies. Doesn't that make you the conspiracy person?
Either way it's a mess, and we all choose our opinions. I'm sure yours will be more favorable, whether it turns out to be good or bad. Rebels rarely win, but we're happy with staying true to ourselves and being able to sleep at night. As long as you're on the right side, you can never truly be defeated. And if AI turns out to be good, then everyone can be happy :)

We agreed that you would send screenshots when something doesn't go as planned. I have no idea what you're talking about.

How on earth do you not know what I'm talking about? It's literally your own instructions. And I get bashed for not succeeding with instructions that are completely foreign to me... Perhaps you need that ADHD check yourself :s
The only thing a screenshot would show you is the exact thing you told me to do, with the exact error you know will appear and make you go "previous" instead of "next". I couldn't imagine a universe where you would EVER for ANY reason need a screenshot of this. I'm flabbergasted.

"If you're not finding all URLs, the only reasons I can think of are if:
  • you entered the wrong URL - if you pasted it, make sure it has no empty spaces before/after. If it still doesn't work, enter the URL manually.
  • you installed the wrong Tibia version - it must be exact 7.70, as other versions will have different URLs
  • you're editing the wrong file - it must be the Tibia.exe from inside your install folder (e.g.: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tibia"), and NOT the installer executable (which has the same name sometimes)
  • you're not paying enough attention to the gif"

Right when I was at the end of a long post about every step and how it can't be wrong, I opened the hex editor again just for one tiny detail; to see the first two urls (the working ones) not be red when I enter them. And the first one turned red. I was so confused. Then I realized that above "Search for" there is another one called "Go to". Apparently, after doing the first two urls correctly, I somehow kept using "Go to" for all the rest. Which doesn't work. And doing this little check now helped me see that that was the error. If I didn't, I don't know how we would've solved this issue, because I did everything else right, and that was such a stupid thing to mess up.
But after successfully doing it all now, I had another issue. There is no "Save as" button. Just "New file", "Open file", and "Export" (and then "Undo" and other stuff that has no relation to saving the file). I clicked export to see what would happen, and it basically saved the Tibia file to my desktop. Looks like that would be correct, but I can't know for sure until you confirm (could maybe also be that "Export" simply is a weird new liberal translation of "Save as" that this hex site has taken upon itself to do, just like how it decided to make the site in my native language instead of English, which is so annoying).
But I tried to replace it anyway, as I made that copy earlier that you told me to make in the instructions, which I assume is to have a backup in case something goes wrong. And when I tried to move the hexed Tibia into the folder, it just put a shortcut to it. When I tried to move the other one out of there, it did the same. So I clicked remove on the old one, and then tried to drag the hexed one into the Tibia folder. It still just made a shortcut. So how on earth do I get it in there? Maybe there's something obvious I'm not thinking of, like a simple copy paste method or something, but I'm tired and a little stressed as I gotta get off for the night, so I'll try it again tomorrow. I restored the original Tibia.exe from the dustbin for now and completely removed the "exported" hexed Tibia. Just takes a minute to redo it anyway once I know how to save it and replace it, which hopefully you will have explained by then. Otherwise I'll try to google it or something then if I find the time (tomorrow is my one busy day of the week, but luckily the hex test is fast to do now that I know how, so hopefully I won't have to resolve these new issues on my own). At least we're close to completing this step now, and I'm excited despite my lack of hope. And super worried about what we'll do if it doesn't help with my connection issues.

It's too early to tell if AI will take over jobs, but it most likely will. That's not necessarily a bad thing though.
But anyway, I've been slowly falling behind my whole life, largely due to not being good with technology. It is what it is. Better go your own way than conform anyway.
Becoming more acquainted with technology is not about conformity, it's about knowing tools that can dramatically improve your and other people's lives. For instance, had you invested more into learning technology, you would've been playing the game already and feeling better, and I could be using my time on other matters. While you can't do that, you'll have fewer options available, like playing the real server or somebody else's.

Those are sort of small and straight forward questions. This whole situation with not reaching my IP is clearly a whole other beast. If the AI could fix it for us, wouldn't you already have put that in there too and resolved this a week ago?
And yet you asked several of these small questions here anyway. The point I'm trying to get across is that you should do more things on your own.
For the less obvious issues, I'm actually doing a mix of asking AI and testing on my own VM's. If it wasn't for this, we wouldn't be as close to solving the problem as we are now. Time is valuable to me and I don't have much spare everyday. It's not hard to see that asking AI is more than welcome because it's easily available and much quicker than reading documentation, searching online or asking on forums.

"However, you already executed commands to unblock the firewall in port 7171, so your firewall is not blocking that."

Wow. I read that post and I have no memory of doing that firewall stuff. My currently subpar short term memory is really not good for this stuff, I really wish everything could just be done once and moved on from.
That's part of the diagnosis process. The install script is already doing that automatically, we were just reinforcing it manually to discard 1 of many possibilities.

Capitalism truly is one of mankind's greatest mistakes.
My point is that you are concerned with a reality that doesn't necessarily exist and because of that you're missing out so much while impacting others too. You can read more about how all the current state-of-the-art AIs work and you'll see that they are closer to the usefulness of Wikipedia than to the threat of Skynet.

Just for the record, my goal is not to win an argument. All I want, and I repeat once again, is for you to improve, which automatically helps me as well. Refusing to use a productive tool - with pros that heavily outweigh the cons (if any) for both you and me - has absolutely nothing to do with being on the wrong or right side. Making such a decision based on mostly unfounded "what if"'s doesn't seem wise to me.

How on earth do you not know what I'm talking about? It's literally your own instructions. And I get bashed for not succeeding with instructions that are completely foreign to me... Perhaps you need that ADHD check yourself :s

I didn't understand the issue you were getting because the video instructions seemed to be clear enough, and once again a screenshot from you would've saved both of us a lot of time. Have you noticed that every single time you shared a screenshot, we managed to overcome an issue?

Anyway, I'm glad you paid a bit more attention and realised what the mistake was. That's progress and I'm genuinely happy with your improvement. However this is still happening too often, you have to spend more time looking at the instructions and trying to figure out the issues on your own. You're more than capable of that, there's no doubt. So, starting from my next post, I'll only reply to questions that I consider not too obvious, and only if you share screenshots of the issue. Also, given the lengthy texts I'm assuming you like to write and that's wonderful really, but there's too much information in your posts and they're starting to get on the way. For the sake of progress, let's try a conversation with fewer words (and more screenshots when needed) in the upcoming posts and stick to what's relevant to solve the problem at hand.

Yes, "Save as" and "Export" are interchangeable. The video shows the button's exact position, isn't that easy to guess?
Once you finish changing all 5 URLs, click "Save as", then you'll be prompted with a location to save the file at. Browse to the same folder where the original "Tibia.exe" was, then confirm. Just make sure you save it with the exact same name (Tibia.exe).

If a shortcut is being created when you drag, try copy & paste instead. If the problem still persists, record a video or send a screenshot for us to have a look at.

Good luck.

You seem to look at it like a general life skill that everyone should find a way to devote time to learning in-depth. Sadly society might be developing in that direction, but it doesn't mean that everyone out there will take a programming course or something because it will be needed. We're still at a place where only those with an interest in it will look to learn. Mostly if they seek a profession in that sphere. And then there's people like me that can hardly get by because it's really not one of their strengths. We will learn the bare minimum - when we're forced to - in order to survive, and rely on the gifted for the rest. Just like how many car owners rely on mechanics when something goes wrong with their vehicle. Everyone can't do everything, we're not all identical people. And someone like me should obviously not do things like run an OT from scratch. I thought it would be an easy install or something, and if I had known I had to get into this mess I would have never ventured into this project, for the sake of everyone and for the sheer futility of it. But maybe there's still hope? There has to be, after how much work we have now put into it.

What you're doing here is discouraging free thinking. That's the kind of stuff that makes dictatorships work. People need to learn that others will have different opinions and that our own isn't the ultimate truth that everyone should adhere to. Our opinion works for us, and someone elses works for them, and we shouldn't interfere. The occasional discussion is fine, but we can't force them to change opinions, we can only explain ours and let them choose for themselves. I respect your opinion, and if you've noticed I haven't tried to make you stop using AI. I wish I could get the same treatment in return.

I didn't understand the issue you were getting because the video instructions seemed to be clear enough, and once again a screenshot from you would've saved both of us a lot of time. Have you noticed that every single time you shared a screenshot, we managed to overcome an issue?

Despite its to me apparent futility (I might need to work on not assuming things when it comes to these matters) I would've sent a screenshot if the darn thing had the decency to be in English so it's intelligible. But since it wasn't, I was happy that it probably made no difference anyway. But maybe I was wrong and it would've. I'll continue trying to improve when it comes to screenshots. I have managed to send a lot of them, but I guess even more are somehow needed.

I agree. I am a writer, and could happily write endlessly, but I too have limited time and wish our posts were shorter. There's too much time spent discussing irrelevant things like the AI matter. I want to quickly get to work on the problems, but I always end up having to spend forever writing a post too, and then even more time editing it after sending. I'm sure you wish to avoid the same thing. But with this technical stuff it seems crucial to be very thorough, with every detail mattering, so it's difficult to make things shorter and still navigate problems. But we can definitely streamline it more, and I'll try to do so moving forward.

Yes, "Save as" and "Export" are interchangeable. The video shows the button's exact position, isn't that easy to guess?

Ughhh, you're right, it does show in the gif video thing. Why on earth does it say "Save as" for you and "Export" for me. I wonder if I would've thought to look at it in the gif if I had had to figure it out by myself this mornng. The thought didn't hit me at all. The problem is, I don't do a lot of thinking to solve things about this, and I might need to try to do that more. I also get insecure about everything, like if I do this and that maybe it's wrong, so it's safe to check with the experts to see that it's right. I can't often trust that things I do will be correct, and in many cases in life I even skip things for that very reason. Insecurity is a b*** like that. And with this stuff I know nothing, so I worry about every single thing I have the tiniest dit of doubt about. I'm so worried to do something wrong, especially now that everything keeps being wrong.

Once you finish changing all 5 URLs, click "Save as", then you'll be prompted with a location to save the file at. Browse to the same folder where the original "Tibia.exe" was, then confirm. Just make sure you save it with the exact same name (Tibia.exe).

The frickin "Export" button doesn't offer a location like the usual "Save as" buttons do. It just immediately downloaded onto my desktop. But I copy/pasted it into the folder, and now I'm launching the server and crossing my fingers.
...Alright. This is mighty promising. When I try to connect with the hexed client, it tells me to enter a valid acc number and password. You've said on numerous occasions that simply putting something like 100/100 will work. I tried that and 1/1. I recall being unable to create accounts with your char script instead of the Gesior thing (which seems too difficult for me to use, with a lack of instructions), and thus being forced to use this 100/100 method because - iirc - it should work because of accounts that come with the server? How do I figure out a working account? I suspect that might be the kind of thing you want me to figure out on my own, and I will try to look at the previous posts and the original instructions tomorrow if you haven't explained it, but I don't have time to look at it more today. I'm also wondering if you think there's any chance I could set up the Gesior thing and get to make a proper account, like could I succeed at that and do you know if proper instructions are available for it? (I saw none when I originally looked for it)
Whatever solution is simplest will be fine with me. As long as I have chars and can MC, the other details don't matter. But I'll be on the edge of my seat for now as this is the first time it looks to maybe be working and I won't be able to find out until tomorrow. But we might have progress at long last!
Edit: I did have a quick look at the early phases of you helping me, and you mentioned creating an acc through MySQL commands. Maybe that's my best bet. Do you have the instructions for it? Or if they're very easy to find maybe I can do so myself tomorrow.
Edit again: I just had a quick thought. Do I perhaps need the "realots-schema-inc-players.zip" to access accounts? I didn't get it as I don't want to mess with any existing chars, I just wanna make my own, but maybe that zip is what allows for the accs I would use if I can't make one? If that's the case, do I need to do some sort of reinstall if I were to add them to make it work? Perhaps roll back to before I installed the server, or can I add them anyway, and if so, how?

Given everything we've been through, I think the easiest way is for you to rollback to a snapshot before the install script, then download the "realots-schema-inc-players.zip" file specified in step 2. Just make sure you put it in the same folder as the other files like specified in step 3, then run the installer script again. You database will be populated with accounts like 100, 101, 102, etc., then you can either login with an existing one or use my script to create a char in an existing account.

I've never used Gesior so can't help with that.

MC is easy to do but let's confirm your game is working fine first.

I didn't mean programming, but basic knowledge of PC usage.

What we're doing here goes a little beyond "basic pc usage" though, don't you think? I've gotten through almost all my other pc related things just fine, but this was a whole new level for me where a lot of much deeper knowledge about the machinations of things is required.

If at all, I discourage people giving opinions with no study or evidence.

We can't be experts in everything. If knowledge is lacking, I consider it best to err on the side of caution. I'll leave it at that.

"You database will be populated with accounts like 100, 101, 102, etc., then you can either login with an existing one or use my script to create a char in an existing account."

It wooooooorked!!!
I reinstalled, got the player stuff, made the char creation script, created my char, and I'm now on the server (I tested with a random char before creating mine). Your hex thing actually bypassed the IP issues and I can finally play!

A couple of quick questions now:

- How do I get MC with this edited client?
(getema solved this one for me)

- Is there a way to delete chars? It's a very minor problem that I can live with, but it is annoying nonetheless to have like a hundred chars on my account to navigate through to find my own every time I log on, so if there's an easy way, I'd like to look into it (if it takes going into folders with endless char files and manually deleting them one by one, that's fine by me, I don't mind such work, I'm mostly worried how to find the ones on "my" specific account then).

- My game possibly feels laggy or whatever it is, sort of choppy. Everything seems fine, but the screen looks like it's shaking or something when I walk (would need to know how to make a gif to show it). Is this just something I've forgotten it does, or is it a problem I can somehow fix? I tried changing the graphic settings, but they seemed to not do anything at all. I'm worried I'll feel seasick or something lol, but maybe I'll get used to it if I can't get rid of it.

- I tried to find some high level char to check the lag thing with faster walking speed, and I noticed all the houses say nobody owns them, but they have stuff inside and I found one char with access to a house. Is that just sort of a side effect thing with the OT, that houses don't show names, but maybe not something that has any relevance or will cause any problems?

I think that might be it for now. I need to add the magic system changes, which should fast and easy as I've done it successfully before, and then I don't recall anything else I need to do, although it feels like we did many little things I should need to remember to do again now that it's working. As soon as I have MC it's possible I might be good to go and require no further help (there might still be a few random small things like in these questions in the early stages, but hopefully nothing pressing).

Edit: When I created a second char it gave me the error in the picture I attached. Does this mean I can only create one per account number or something? I did the exact same thing the first time and it worked, with "100" in both places then too. Is the "unique account ID" thing supposed to be something other than the 100 acc number?

Let me just say right now that you're an absolute superhero for all the help you've provided, and I could never thank you enough. If there's ever anything I can do for you, just let me know - I owe you bigtime.

Good thinking with the snapshot, I took one.

Thank you! The MC works brilliantly. I remembered that something like that tends to work for MC, but it's been so long that I was a little unsure.

Happy to hear that. So in the end the problem seemed to be the IP changer, because that's the only thing we changed since the first time you reinstalled the server.

Talking about IP, you might want to set a static IP in your Ubuntu so it won't change automatically - this can happen when new devices are connected to the same network. To do that, simple follow the last instructions I shared in this post. Create a snapshot before changing that, just in case.

You can delete chars in the MySQL database, but that's definitely more advanced than the basic diagnosis we've done so far. You might want to learn how to use Gesior for that and other account-related functions.

A tip for you to find your char a bit quicker is to type the first letter of its name while in the char list.

I think that's just how it was back then, but a video would help.

I think this happens because the OT operates with 2 separate databases - one in the /home/game files, another one in the MySQL database - and they are not necessarily in sync all the time. As far as I know it shouldn't affect your gameplay.

Edit: When I created a second char it gave me the error in the picture I attached. Does this mean I can only create one per account number or something? I did the exact same thing the first time and it worked, with "100" in both places then too. Is the "unique account ID" thing supposed to be something other than the 100 acc number?
The account ID must be unique, and is usually 7 to 9 numbers long. I suggest you simply increment the number you used for your previous account e.g.: 10001002 this time.

The account number is literally the number you enter in the client login, so this one can (should?) be an existing one like "100".

Happy to hear that. So in the end the problem seemed to be the IP changer, because that's the only thing we changed since the first time you reinstalled the server.

There's still something funky about the IP, as I have the lack of an internal one and all that, so who knows if the IP-changer was also a problem or if the hex editing just ignored the problems with the IP. Since it works, it does feel like the IP-changer should too, so maybe it was both the IP-changer and the IP having issues.

"Talking about IP, you might want to set a static IP in your Ubuntu so it won't change automatically - this can happen when new devices are connected to the same network. To do that, simple follow the last instructions I shared in this post. Create a snapshot before changing that, just in case."

Done. Thanks!

"You can delete chars in the MySQL database, but that's definitely more advanced than the basic diagnosis we've done so far. You might want to learn how to use Gesior for that and other account-related functions."

So I can't just go delete some files or stuff inside text docs, like with the house stuff? Oh well. I do wish I could learn Gesior if it has a bunch of account functions, but since that seems a bit much and too difficult I'll just live with this, which is perfectly fine.

A tip for you to find your char a bit quicker is to type the first letter of its name while in the char list.

I already do that, and it does make the process a lot smoother indeed.

"I think that's just how it was back then, but a video would help."

From how I've always understood it to work, capturing videos on computers requires downloading and learning some serious programs, so I'll just hope we're right that it's how it is. If it's not and it becomes a problem I'll look for solutions in the future I guess.

Why are there 2 databases?
Thanks for the info.

The account number is literally the number you enter in the client login, so this one can (should?) be an existing one like "100".

So the account ID is some random number thing that's used for something in the system, and it just has to be a different one each time I create a char? I used 100 the first time, thinking this was related to the account number, but this time I used 10001002 like you suggested, which will indeed be easy to increment with each new char, as the 10001001 number is right there in the process as a reminder. Thanks again.

It seems that absolutely everything is done and working well now, and unless I run into troubles when I try to get a house later I don't see any reason I should need more help right now. Fingers crossed it stays that way, and thanks a million!

My game possibly feels laggy or whatever it is, sort of choppy. Everything seems fine, but the screen looks like it's shaking or something when I walk (would need to know how to make a gif to show it). Is this just something I've forgotten it does, or is it a problem I can somehow fix? I tried changing the graphic settings, but they seemed to not do anything at all. I'm worried I'll feel seasick or something lol, but maybe I'll get used to it if I can't get rid of it.
u can try to drop this file in ur tibia client folder
GitHub - SaiyansKing/Tibia-High-Resolution-Timer (https://github.com/SaiyansKing/Tibia-High-Resolution-Timer)
it makes old clients less laggy for many players
so it may help

Hard to know. My guess is that the unofficial login server was already using MySQL when the original server was leaked, and the team behind it just tried to reuse or adapt it.

Correct.

Have fun 👍

Thanks a bunch, I'll try it if I end up feeling like it's needed :)
