I know some people are probably getting ready to flame me. But idc, this is what I think should happen.

Otland should banish all realmaps. It will be the downfall of opentibia. Most people just download a server and run it with full intention of making money for their personal life. Which is ridiculous. It's taking away from the developers and hardworking teams. It's one thing that OTfans has gotten right. I'm not saying banning advertising servers that carry the realmap. I'm saying ban the map from being downloaded here. Make people work for their server. I like the old days where there were just a few realmaps and there were sooo many custom maps you could choose from and play.. now it is very limited. Let the flaming begin.

True, some real Maps are a beast and bring large amounts of joy, but what's the point of 1500 others making real Maps while they sit and become bottom-dwellers and never succeed?
 
spam thread? everyone posting here has a good arguement and debatable reasons. The only spam I see is your post. It has nothing todo with the thread. It is not a noob "question" its not a question at all. Its a complaint (read the tag)

@topic: please consider this. Or reply back why you do not wish to do this. I know at least 1 admin has seen this.

How can you steal a custom map?

Cipsoft is a company and they made their map.

Custom maps isn't official but it would be good to see more of the rpg customs.
 
Pointless thread. You don't like real maps - don't use them.
They get on my nerves too, but if they're not hosted here, they'd be available on other, country specific sites.

Some one lock this thread please.

I totally agree with you brother. Couldn't have said it better. Also, ban RoXoR. Pretty much people download RoXoR and do the same thing as they do with RL Maps.

This is my thought on the issue about r/l map thenyou can get into trouble with tibia cause the map is copyrighted to them and CIPSoft.
I have no problem with r/l tibia maps but it is nice to play on a custom map also.
This is just my 2 cents in this issue

If the map is copyrighted to Cipsoft. Then there is also a huge problem with Gesior AAC. Cipsoft also claimed copyright on their website so u would ban Gesior AAC aswell.

Signed. I don't like to play on real maps, sure, but we are not talking here about playing.

Now making your own real map server takes about two days. It's simple:
1. Download ready real map server from downloads section.
2. Buy a dedicated server.
3. Set up mysql database (even using tutorial) and set up config.
4. Set up SMS shop.
5. Voila'

Totally pathetic... Sincerely, there was a time when it was really difficult to make even average open tibia server. There was only few distributions (clean ones) and you had to spend some time (and ofc had to have skills!) before launching them on dedicated server.

Or in other way. For example. Finally I have finished my super real map server. I have scripted every NPC from zero, I have filled every place on map. I worked on it hard to make it really bugfree. And I have to compete with hundreds of damn downloaded noob real maps in getting players?

3 of 5 open tibia servers on ot lists are real maps. I am sure that more than 90% of them are those downloaded for free from forums and almost unchanged. We have to do something about it.

I agree and have wanted this on every Open-Tibia site since forever...


EDIT: I'm with UP, but since it's 4 am, I'm too lazy to type alot. And it's less than 2 days. Most RL maps ARENT on dedicateds!
 
i vote for them to go! I have made a new custom server and i dont even have more then 3 players -.-. rl map just download and BOOM you got 50 players online...it sucks.
 
Signed. They are illegal also, while custom maps are not.

("Real Tibia Maps" has been copied from copyrighted material, "Custom Maps" have not... And don't bring in the "using tibias sprs/client" argument, since the custom map owners doesn't force you to use it, you can just as well use YATC...)

Because we want them to stop screwing this whole "Open Tibia" project.
If Cipsoft get this community in front of the judge we are doomed (For reason: Development of the real map).

gladly im not one of them, im updateing it all on my own...
 
I may be wrong, but there's a lot of politics involved here.

1. Talaturen's servers are using Real map I believe. (I'm not sure)

2. Real map owners get a lot of players the first week so they get a lot of donations, and they use that donations to advertise on OTSLIST, which is owned by OTLand, I believe. (Probably why OTLand doesn't have ads, which is nice, but I wouldn't mind it.)
