[Sweden] - Project XDC - 8.6 (Closed)

Today the XDC team asked for help testing out their new client made for this server!

Just a note though, you'll notice that I am running the Deluxe Administrator Global Editor version of the client, and not the standard Player Client version of the client, so ignore all the Administrator commands and tools on my version of the client as you will not have access to these when the client is released for player use in the Open Beta.

Well, without further ado, here is a screen shot of me Alpha testing out the new client!

As you will notice first, that the health bar above the players and monster heads have been removed!

The reason for this is to bring extra difficulty to monster hunting and PVP alike!

Every other server has visible health bars above the creature or players head, this is believed to give too much information to your potential enemys and the player alike. If you are willing to engage in combat against another player, or wonder out into the wilderness to fight dangerous and devilish creatures, you should feel as you are in the real world, unaware of much damage your nemesis has already taken, and how much more they can take till you end their fragile, but valuable life.

Like a Hero out of the middle ages of Europe, fighting for the honour and glory of their fatherland, you should be willing to enter combat with faith that your Gods will protect you through the battle, and even if you fall in battle, your efforts will be honoured in Valhalla. Because of this, you will never know the level or HP of your opponent so that everyone is on an equal playing field.


Another great addition to the server you may notice in the combat log, you'll see that the type of damage you are dealt, and do to fierce vagabonds is listed!

Furthermore, the very environment you are in will effort your battles, as you see the poor frost dragon, who is made of ice, is taking sunlight damage from the bright mid day sun. You also may be wondering what a frost dragon is doing out in a open field! Well well! As you see, luring monsters will be possible on this game world, making every biome a danger zone, so player better beware, dangers lucking around all corners!

Snuggles will be joining me on this project as a mapper, he has already contributed a lot to the map and now that he is part of the project I have no doubt that this is the inspiration I needed to push on. I hope you all are still interested!

I've seen this proyect since the last year, so I hope you can finaly make it happen... Or at least give a BETA so the people could get more involved in to this server and see how great it is.. At least it does seems really awesome, hopefully there will be some news and also tests..

Hello to those of you who still read the forums. I am sad to announce that Death and Chaos have had to step down from the XDC Project for the time being. So I have been talking with Gelem and we have decided since OT Madness 2 was severely damaged population wise due to the problems we had with OT Serv List for the past few months, It would be a good idea to create a new madness server!

Madness has always been my favorite project because the server is designed to push open tibia to its limits and Madness 3 will be no exception! The server is already well on its way to an open beta for all of you to try out. A few fun things we have managed to get worked out this time around is the nasty level cap. Madness 3 will be able to support levels well over 1 million! There are 24 sets of equipment to fight for and we have solved a few of the issues that made the server hard to play at times such as crowded boss spawns and the need to loot 100 monsters per second! We also didn't like the fact that players were restricted from using equipment or hunting different areas by level so equipment stats are now % based keeping the server more balanced at low levels with good equipment and you can earn your way to a higher level spawn by collecting creature products from your current level area. As most of you probably remember, Madness 2 was completely different from Madness 1. This is most likely going to be the case with Madness 3. While the server will still feel like madness with all the crazy numbers and tiered equipment, the server in general is going to be a bit more silly. A few examples are monster/equipment names. Madness 2 has a lot of equipment and the names of all that equipment were for the most part pretty down to earth, this time around we are making it much more crazy to really give you players some comedic relief. Another example is an annoying little mage that pops into your chat from time to time to let you know whats going on. He really is a silly guy, but in due time you will all learn to love him! This is just the tip of the iceberg, hope to see you all in beta!

If you didn't feel like reading my wall of text, here is the TL;DR!
Madness 3 is coming soon! Its going to be silly! Its going to be Madness all over again!

He was working on Madness 3 because there was no way for him to finish 'Project X' by himself, Project X was not designed to be a single person project. So in the time being he started to develop Madness 3 until Death & Chaos had time to work on the project again. Fortunately 'Project X' was picked back up as a solo project, and Xagul was able to find a mapper which would mean that 'Project X' would eventually get finished. I talk to Xagul a lot, and 'Project X' is happening. He's made a lot of progress in the last few weeks, (he's currently on vacation). You guys just need to understand how work this server requires. Believe me, the wait will be worth it.
 
Thats what I guessed i just didnt know that. I mean it seemed like YEE CHAOS IS COMING, YEEE HYPERDRIVE IS COMING, YEE XDC IS COMING, uUHMMMM madnessIII !!!!! uhm, nothanks, XdC only :)
 
Chaos was only made for fun and was going to be added to our multiworld project which was going to consist of all projects and they were all going to be accessible via the same ip/client/account with characters being labeled with the corresponding server. Unfortunately Gelem and myself soon discovered that the multi-world system would conflict with back-ups and rollbacks. While we do not plan to have rollbacks it is a necessary step to plan for such things in the case of an error. The problem with this is that in order to roll back 1 server we would have had to roll back all servers in the "multi-world". We decided this was an unacceptable situation to put players through on servers unrelated to the one with an error. For this reason the multi-world project is a no go and thus OT Chaos will not be put back online. It was fun for the month or so it was online however not enough players were interested in it and thus was not worth the resources it took to keep it online.

Madness 3 was a solo project and a continuation of the outrageously high rate server known as Madness. I can not say for sure if I will end up finishing that project as I have already said I really want to make an RPG.

Hyperdrive 2 was a team project LONG LONG ago, XDC was a team project recently. Both servers are RPG servers and both projects have been tied together to create 1 amazing project. As of now Project XDC can be known as Project X or Project XDC or Hyperdrive, they all refer to the same project now. Currently this project is using the map from Hyperdrive and the systems designed for Project XDC. Throughout the course of development a lot of things have changed, I would like to provide screenshots but I feel that the time it takes to edit all the images and upload them could be best used to just work on the server.

TL;DR
Project XDC and Hyperdrive 2 are now the same project using the map from Hyperdrive and the systems outlined in the teaser for XDC. I am working hard to get the server playable for open-beta so I have not been taking many screenshots for the forum.

Here is a few before/after screens of some things that Snuggles has helped beautify! (and yes the before images are my sh***y mapping lol)

Edit:
The server is actually playable in its current state. The only thing it lacks right now is objectives (quests/bosses/ect...) Still trying to figure out what I want to do with this situation but once quests and bosses start being made the server is basically ready for open beta! I am probably over analyzing and the server could be opened right now and to most people it would be fun, but to me something still feels missing.

Edit 2:
Snuggles had a great idea for the server today. We decided to add in environmental effects. We also wanted to add pigs to the server as a food source to keep your character alive.



As you can see the sun is warm and it is partly cloudy today, the pig is extra happy due to the environmental effects of a party cloudy but sunny day increasing his pointy tail bonus by 13.8%. Also since the sun is wearing glasses it gets a 127% bonus to heat output increasing dehydration by 43.2% but fear not! Grass/trees decrease this heat increase by up to 50% as a "standing in the shade" bonus.

Weapon Preview

Hello, some of you have been asking for me to keep you all updated on the progress of the server. I think its about time I start outlining some of the important things in the server so today I will start with weapons!

Every weapon type has a unique purpose, some of them are fast, some are slow, and some even have incredible range but one thing that they all have in common is they are completely randomized much like the armors in the game. Weapons have an "attack range" this determines the minimum and maximum BASE damage. These attack values are then multiplied by the players level, skills, and equipment bonuses. For this demonstration I have generated items with the exact same bonus to attack damage. What this means is every weapon in this demonstration has the same base attack value and the actual difference in attack range is determined only by the weapons type (sword, axe, ect...).

Some general information:
Players can equip a ranged weapon in their ammunition (belt) slot and it will act as a backup weapon. In the event that you are not within melee range of your target, your character will attempt to attack with the weapon in this (what we call) "ranged slot". So one might be wondering, "why would I ever equip a ranged weapon in my hands if I can equip a shield/sword instead and get stat bonuses from 2 items instead of 1?". The answer is simple actually, items equipped in the ranged slot will not grant bonuses, the only stat that will be utilized is the attack value. Further more, 2-handed weapons gain double the stats than 1-handed weapons to compensate the loss of an item. This means if a 1-handed sword has +15 melee power, a 2-handed mace would have +30 melee power.

Weapons have a chance to miss. This miss chance can be countered by raising skill proficiency with that class of weapon. Since there are no set vocations on this server, a player can use any weapon they want so long as they raise their skill high enough to not miss all the time.



Pretty much every type of damage dealt by a player can critically hit. This includes weapons! The amount of damage dealt with a critical strike is determined by the critical damage modifier of a players equipment.





~~Swords~~
Swords are lightweight 1-handed weapons. The unique feature that these weapons provide is raw attack speed. Swords are the fastest attacking weapons in the game, equip 2 of these puppies and prepare to go ham on them rotworms!



~~Axes~~
Axes are middleweight 1-handed weapons. The unique feature these weapons provide is a cleave attack. The axe has slightly higher attack than a sword but is much slower to swing.



~~Maces~~
Maces are very heavy/slow 2-handed weapons. What they lack in attack speed they more than make up for in raw damage. In the right hands, a mace is a deadly force to be reckoned with!



~~Staves~~
Staves are the magical users weapon of choice, they are 2-handed and have a slow attack speed. Staves have a very stable damage output as the damage range is much closer together allowing for more consistent damage.



~~Ranged Weapons~~
Ranged weapons are fast, light weight weapons. They are 2-handed and can attack at extreme range. There are many types of ranged weapons... bows, crossbows, throwing spears, throwing axes. Ranged weapons have fairly low attack damage, the reason for this is the further away the target is, the more damage will be dealt with a ranged weapon. Ranged weapons do not require an ammunition source as of now, this is subject to change in the future.



~~Shields~~
Shields are very heavy and provide a lot of defense. While shields are by no means a weapon, they are still equipped in the hands so they are listed here. Shields allow a player to block incoming damage. This is determined by the defense of the shield and the shielding skill of the player, also using defensive fighting stance will increase the chance a player has to block.



This feature is similar to a weapons defense which allows a player to parry in the same way. While they both do the same thing (prevent damage to a player) the chance to block is much higher than the chance to parry.



A player can also dodge incoming attacks although the chance to dodge is much lower than both block and parry, and can not be boosted by the defense stat of an item.
