Ascalon - The revival

It's going to take a lot to make this server not die within 2 weeks again..

What has really changed? Is it the same exact spells we see over and over? the same exact PvP? The same starting city, with the same hidden quests? the same loot? The same addon requirements? The same progression as before? No new classes, revamped spells, changed things?
What is going to bring back a player who reached end-game last time? What is new and exciting to make those who grinded weeks for outfits want to re-do the same exact grind? or has it changed?

My issues with last launch - East and southern city don't offer near as much as the first city, in pretty much every aspect. The first city you learn the server, you're doing addon quests, learning about gems and what-not. Many places to check out, then 2nd city comes. really, can't say anything new here. And the 3rd city is the worst in terms of it's size and huntable spawns/exploration. I'm not saying the content within the continents are bad. Me and my team LOVED the undead quest and what-not.. I'm just saying there is too little content. Doing quests to learn spells is awesome, why not add more of those in. Doesn't need to be some crazy insane spell. Also, i can't exactly remember what level I was.. I had done every quest except for the slimes. (yes even sands of time) Why isn't there quests like that all throughout? I really felt like it was starting to get old during city 2 and 3. There was never any PvP either, because what was the point? you gained literally nothing and lost nothing. At some point i heard about 400+ content. But i wasn't about to grind for 3 weeks, 10 hours a day, just to get level 400, only to do quests. And find nothing unique there. I ran out of things to do quickly, with no PvP interaction to slow down my leveling the server became dead and easy within a week or two.

My issues with coming back - Here is my biggest concerns with coming back, as well as my teams. We know everything. We know what quests do what, we know the vocs, we know the spells we get, we know which gems to use, how to kill each boss, you get the point. So what is waiting for us? level 500 content? So we have to grind weeks of the same content we've done countless times just to experience a new zone? The same tier system for gear? What is new and fresh, what is there to discover for the people who play each season.

Suggestions - i'll keep it short. Do something new to the spells. Change/add vocs. Change/add quests. Change/add gems. Change/add to the armor system, Change/add to the recipes. Change/add the hidden quests and rewards. Change/add the amt of addon items and how you get them. Change/add to each mapped area, perhaps making each city bigger. Also you can try scaling the Exp down a bit if needed, So for instance. There is quests for level 440, 450, 460, and 470.. Where 440-450 would be equivalent to 440-460 in previous era, this is just an example, so there isn't level 700's running around but you can still keep people leveling and keep it meaningful

Obviously you can't change all of those things, it would take an immense amount of time. But there has to be something new besides level 500 content and what-not if anyone i know is going to be playing ascalon again. Especially since it is usually very boring PvP wise, and dies down quickly (nothing to do). Just need to find things for people to do. Create an entire casino, add more events, add more types of skills for people to work on and show off.. just need something to keep people entertained as the content dies quickly.

Hopefully you read it all, and goodluck

I find it a bit hard to create all this imo. We should stay realistic, remember this is just a one man project now. A server keeping players for months on the edge of their seat is an impossible feat.
Look at real tibia, cip is an entire team working on the game. And see how that turned out.

There are enough different vocs to enjoy in Ascalon. More than most other servers... why change it?

First weeks of last version of Ascalon were a lot of fun. Played it with friends and we had a great time. I wouldn't mind playing thru it all again, cuz I enjoyed it. Ofc ppl who rush thru everything and don't enjoy custom content wouldn't wanna do it all over again. And I'm sure there will be some small changes here and there.

Grinding for addons? Most ppl were botting them & after the first 2 players reached lvl 300, cavebotting became "legal" too.

Also remember this will still be Ascalon we all know. Gaal is now improving/fixing/adding new stuff, but he won't be creating a totally new server from a scratch. Maybe for some people this will be discouraging to play again, grind again etc. but probably for some of us who have spare time or just enjoy general tibia gameplay(lol) but isn't it what gaming is about? Every mmorpg is the same, everything resolves about grinding. If you played on Ascalon before then you know what to expect, if you didn't then that's good for you to check it all out. To certain level I agree with it that for example again grinding 200 cyclop toes for addons will be hell of a pain, but well, happens. Everything is about enjoying it, if you play it for the first time and have fun that's great or if you play again but still have tons of fun that's great too, but if you play because you 'have' to play and don't enjoy it too much, then it's probably time to change the server/game.

tl;dr
• this is still Ascalon, server we all know just with new things, not whole new server
• grinding is part of every mmo, it just depends on if you enjoy it or not. if you do then that's good, if not then I don't think forcing yourself is good idea and it's time to change server/game

Totally agree.

Ok, so this isn't something I've put a lot of thought into, just a bit of an idea.

How about adding areas or dungeons for certain vocations only. I think this would give people a reason to play other vocations, maybe even ones which they don't usually like. E.g. I hardly ever play a sorcerer, so if I wanted to see whats in the sorcerer area/dungeon then I'd have to play one.

Or maybe make dungeons which can only be entered when a party has an exact combination of vocations, e.g. two paladins and a sorcerer, or a knight and a paladin.

I think I'm just thinking of things which may keep people interested for a little while longer.

Guys, feel free to criticise, maybe we can find a great idea between us.

Thank you for the interesting reply :)
You are right about the problem that alot of people know the game already.
Because of that I changed ways to get to places and rewards on most of the quests.
The monsters level range is now 0-580.
I have monsters up to 800 but they will be added and edited after players will reach the 500 land.
The gems and stone dont have 100% success rate anymore.
Bosses got an edit as well + more bosses.
There are exactly 50 recipes atm. Somey are obtainable from
few monsters and the rest from quests.
"Alchemy Coin". A new coin used to
buy access to some places or items.
The coins are obtainable from some monsters, quests and chests.

The herbs are an idea to improve the PvP and PvE.
Right now we have 6 active herbs the rest are still being worked on.
More herbs will be added after the server starts.
Herbs(each herb has diffrent cooldown) -
long speed boost, magic level raise, health/mana over time
skill raise, invisibility and many more...

About the city being divided to 3 areas,
Now there are 3 known friendly cities on the game - City of Ascalon, City of Torvora and Ridgefire Camp.
The hunting areas are still level restricted.
There are alot of new areas that you can get to from the main, east and west areas.

Some of the things you mentioned
wont happen, for now, you have a point there though.
(MANY points)

I'm working on making more teamplay areas and quests.
Made a few places and quests already but it takes long time :(
No doubt I'm aiming on better team play as well as solo play.

Damiool
I agree that most of the addon quests are bad, so I rewritten them xD
Most of them. But I promise to fix the rest :)

Well I like the new team bonus exp for hunting in party on real tibia. The more different vocs you have in your exp party, the bigger the exp bonus you receive.
I agree group hunting (& completing dungeons) with different vocs in party should be encouraged.

I don't think we need a special dungeon for each voc...

I personally would love a vocation rework/remake, and spell rework/remake. So i can at least experience the joy of unlocking new spells/vocs.
Even if it's just a couple spells, or 2 new vocs.. Anything is better than nothing

Maybe special (unique) gear? (kinda similar to raid gear but more common at earlier levels)
Perhaps there can be a rare chance to get an item of that tier that is just flat out better than the rest. These can be unique weapons which also contain a couple extra gem slots as well. So if tier 1 axe is 50 attack, 6 gem slots. And a tier 2 axe is 80 attack. The unique t1 axe would have 65 attack and 7 gem slots. This could be the same for armors as well, and should become rarer the higher up in tier you go. They should not remain the same rarity, but scale harder.

example: (All numbers are made up and used for demonstration purposes)
Average drop of t1 weapon / armors = 5%. Unique would be 2%. average drop of t5 weapon armors = 3% unique = .3%. This is just an idea to spice things up. Something fun for people to continue hunting for, instead of JUST hunting for levels end game. Also something to show off, especially if you make the later tiers extremely rare.

Maybe this will give you another idea or something. Just trying to spice things up

Something like warzones would be really cool, but I have another idea. Master dungeon - long dungeon with few bosses and 1 'final boss'. It could be accessible after collecting certain amount of 'dungeon maps' from normal dungeons. Let's say you get 50% chance of getting 'dungeon map part 1' from any dungeon, 40% for part2 etc. and you need 4 parts to enter master dungeon. To not make it that hard and random to get you can combine 3x part 1 = 1x part 2 etc. For me entrance could look like annihilator thing but you have to put maps on altars or something like this, maybe limit it to once per day, idk. Monsters and rewards scaling with level just as usual dungeons so it doesn't require lvl 400 to complete, but you can also do it at lvl100 and get lower tier rewards.

I remembered one thing which I wanted to see on previous era. I think it would be great if Ascalon had a cast system, just to show how lame you are to die to first random redskull'ed monster :^)

#down
Oh that's true too, now dungeons are kind of private hunting spots. They give both nice exp and good amount of items. Lower exp gained from dungeons so if you want to levelup it will be wiser to go hunt 'normal' spawns and keep lootrate from dungeons just as it is, imo getting tier items shouldn't be too hard, only hard part should be upgrading them.

I think dungeons should give nice items drop instead of exp.

Love it, everyone should spill out any ideas, even if he doesn't use any, one of our ideas may inspire something great.

In Whi World, my raids are similar to long dungeons. Only difference is that: in raid type dungeons, monsters do not drop any regenerative items(food, potions, etc)

Maybe that inspires something xD
I myself haven't player nor researched about Ascalon (expect by reading this thread and all its posts xD), but seems like it was awesome custom server, if played first time.

If I have time and it gets cool updates people suggest, I'd like to join exploring the server too (as player)

one of the best if not best custom server I played (and I played a lot of them :p )
you should definetly check this out when it releases ;)

@whitevo You gotta try it if you never played it. The first 100 levels is fucking awesome. Learning about the stuff, and how the server works e.t.c... If you're playing just 1-2 hours a day i'd say you can play it for a couple weeks before getting bored. It just lacks end-game things, and side-things to keep people interested in playing..

I want to make dungeons only for co-play and make them harder, what do you think?
What do you think about PEMUS 's idea to not get exp from monsters in dungeons?
About the item drop I'm not sure if it a good thing to do, maybe change the whole
dungeon system so you need to do missions instead of just clear them, problem is..
That would take too much time, but definitely thats more fun than just killing things (imo).
I like the idea of collecting items to be able to go to a certian dungeon.
The master dungeon can be very unique, I'll try to make this, dunno if this will be active
at start cuz of the time it will take to make
but no doubt I'm adding this :)

Now some of the new things :p

"Ascalonian Mazes"
There are non-combat mazes, the mazes are located on most of areas.
If you finish a maze you can get rewarded with -
atk/def/heal points ,spells ,equipment, items, tokens/alchemy coins

New special G6/7/8/9 equipment, weapons and items.
Obtainable only from quests or npcs that sells them for alchemy coins

More spells and edit to alot of spells.
More spells ideas and fixs are more than welcome.

So when does the last era start?
Hopefully AsAp.
Thank you everyone for the support :-D
