I was just discussing with a friend about it.
I'm wondering how big would the rl tibia database be?

And how would they have their servers set up?

5 login server, 78 worlds, several backup servers?

Would they be using physical servers for each world/login server?
Or would they have VPS on real servers with big amounts of memory?

What do you guys think about it, i'm interessed.

Well 5 years ago we still were using 512MB memory, 30GB harddisks etc.

I'd like to get a discussion going about what you think about how they have their setup and how big their database is nowdays.

Just to give us something to think about at the end of this interview, how much digital traffic do we cause each month?
We are in the range of over 30 Terabytes. If we shut down our servers for maintenance work, it can happen that our provider calls up to see if everything is alright because his statistic drastically dropps.

o_O

@up: and that was 5 years ago, alot has been changed, more servers & players also more functions and things to save.

Maybe some maths? xD Just guessing.
2005 - 2010 = year

2005 = 30 tb.
2010 = x

2010 - 2005 = 5%
5 = 0.5 x 30 = 15

15+30 = 45..

x = 45 , so 45 tb? (around 45) :confused::blink:

xD

Ehh we than had 40-80gb harddrives, now 500-1000.
We than had 256-512mb ram now 3-4gb.
We than had dial up or 1-2mbit dsl, now 10-20mbit.

Leaves me to the point where the same formula is used on bandwidth.
45tb than, 450tb now?

It's possible...? :eek::confused:
Dunno, I think so xD, Because these days, games are using alot of graphics and ram..

In 2005 "we" had 80GB to 250GB HDDs (ATA133/SATA), now we have 500GB to 2TB (SATA3)
In 2005 we had 512MB to 1GB ram (DDR/DDR2), now we have 4GB to 16GB (DDR3)
In 2005 we had .. <varies greatly> anyways, IEEE 802.3 - 2005

With 'we' I'm referring to desktop computers. An exception to this is Network bandwith standard.
