Ascalon - The revival

@Gaal Thing is tho, you say that you will add the L. 800 monsters when people reach the L. 500 lands, do keep in mind how fast people grind through the content. If you wait with adding new monsters (or a new land) till when people hits L. 500 you will get uncreative and you will most likely be in a rush when you're adding it.

Also I'm glad you actually worked on the server.. Really doubted you for a while but now I don't doubt you as much as I did. Keep it up and do think about what I said :)

@Edit
The idea that @PEMUS posted about dungeons not giving exp is the worst thing i've ever heard in my entire journey through ascalon eras. You need the experience in dungeons otherwise it'll be no point in doing them. The items isn't worth anything for when you are able to do the dungeon you will have better equipment than the dungeon can offer you. Its basically a way of making cash and a way of leveling early on.. It gives the game more content due to it giving you mounts/experience points and items to sell for money

Totally supported. I agree with 100% of my entire soul. The exp is very much needed in dungeons, since the items you gain in dungeons (as it was the previous eras) aren't worth the exp loss you get if you remove the entire experience gain from the monsters.

"Ascalonian Mazes"
There are non-combat mazes, the mazes are located on most of areas.
If you finish a maze you can get rewarded with -
atk/def/heal points ,spells ,equipment, items, tokens/alchemy coins

Make sure to add squares which cannot be mapclick-walked over, otherwise people will just mapclick to the end and DONE.

One thing that I disliked by last eras of Ascalon is that you got no experience in quest zones.
I think this should be reconsidered because it takes up alot of time and space and we all now the lack of hunting spots before.

At least think about giving large exp rewards when finishing quests.

@Gaal

Make dungeons give LESS EXP, but not no exp at all. If you lower exp gains, then people will have to make a decision - do I want to level up faster or do I want to get equipment. Last era end game I was doing dungeons at lvl 390~ and I was getting from 0 items up to 5-6 IIRC, so I think dungeon loot is fine. Problem was with gaining experience, it was a little bit too fast as for dungeon where nobody can interrupt you. Just lower exp a little bit and it will be fine. If we are at it you can also look into dungeon bosses loot. Sometimes lvl 350 dungeon boss would droptier 1 gems/stones which was pretty annoying.

@DestinationSer
For your info I played until server was closed, so I know a little bit how it worked. For me dungeons a kind of win-win private hunting spot since nobody can kill you, you don't get backspawned, you get A LOT of items in comparison to number of kills and you get decent exp. If you go hunt normal mobs then you only get better exp, everything else is worse. I know that teamhunting is super effective blabla but still, for me dungeons were giving a littlebit too much exp.

Exp was lowered last era, but you wouldn't know cause you probably didn't use the dungeons after it was lowered.
Dungeons stays as it is exp wise. Do not change it @Gaal

Yeah thats true hehe

DestinationSer,
About the dungeons, dungeons were not op with the exp gain...?
Lower exp from the mobs is not good?
What about make the dungeons for only 2+ players?
About what you said on keeping up the content update with players progress,
Right now the content up to level 600-630 is ready, I know that if we wont get more developers the players
will pass me in no time. There is a plan, hopefully it'll work.
Any suggestions to a better way of doing it maybe?
:)
Thanks for the positive thoughts.

Dont worry about that, most of quests are now with exp reward.

I cant provide for you a better way of doing it other than keep being motivated with this. Start advertising for your server and make sure you have enough content so that you can beforehand start working on new content before the players pass you.

The dungeons wasn't overpowered with the exp gain if you got the datapack that lava edited most recently. The exp was lowered last era and it was fine.. Dungeons are made to be of 4 man teams but if you figure that having a 4 man team is gonna be difficult you can lower it to 2 if the player amount is low which is hard to believe.. You will most likely have a lot of players if you advertise it well

Well,
The plan is to open the server without a beta
after the testing, bug fixing and setup is finished.
Unfortunately we dont have enough time to put on the server
and thats why it takes so long :-/

My guess is 10/7 or few days later (depends on the advertising method)

So 2 days left or the last era start will be delayed?
I hope everything is going well.

mm just heard bout this. Not overly excited.. I don't trust this new person. The name is familiar which is making me suspect this person of things.

Server hasn't started yet. I'll be watching. GL on launch bb.

Malveko,
I dont want to give an uncertain date and then disappointeveryone.
Know that I'm fully dedicated to Ascalon and the main problem is the development rate :-/
My RL job (which I must have so I can live) is making me work less on the server :-(

Most of everything is ready, but sometimes something that seems to be easy is
not that easy...
I think that you're familiar with the name maybe, but not the person :)
My old name was tWiz when I was around here long ago

xAvatarx,
As I said to this friend here, I'll have news very very soon :)

@Gaal It's amazing to see Ascalon being brought back to life. I personally think that it shouldn't matter how much time you need into developing Ascalon. Take your time, have your personal life in order, find a way to mix Ascalon into your personal life, as in, RL work, friends/family, Ascalon.

Note: Everything underneath this is my opinion.

Now when it comes to Ascalon.
I haven't played Ascalon in a very long time. Last time I've played was when Fare was the owner. So my thoughts are going from that time.

There will always be people that will spend their lives into newly opened servers to become the #1. Why not adding a time cap for hunting. Ofcourse, not talking about disabling EXP, but lowering it, by quite a lot. Yes, this will make hardcore gamers less motivated, perhaps leaving Ascalon. Yet newly players, players that never played Ascalon before will have a chance to 'get to know Ascalon', with all its potential before Ascalon gets overwhelmed with random PK's ( More then normally ). So even the new people can invite their friends and actually have fun!

Valuta: Ascalon Gold was worthless when I played. I remember going to the lottery for 3 hours and lose a lot of money and see'ing me standing #1 Loss on the website. Next day I got into top 10 gainings. There should be a way to make this valuable. Haven't got ideas for that.

Dungeon: Lower experience. Make it so that the Dungeon is for getting 'rare'-'extremely rare' items in a RARE occasion. I think that this will make the dungeon pretty boring, which is a good thing so that rare/extremely rare items will stay rare.

Quests:
Fare spend a lot of time in creating new quest zones which were amazing to do. Unfortunately those quests were done within 10 minutes to an hour because of hardcore gamers going ahead of Ascalon's development. There was a lack of team quests. I remember the quest with the Insectoids and terramites. That is kinda it.

Boss monsters: Please, remove the timer... Let people explore and be lucky to find a boss. Make it spawn in several locations, not just one. ( I mean, not multiple bosses, but one boss can spawn in more then 1 location. )

I will brainstorm some more, but for the time being, this is all I could come up with.

Kind Regards,
Old Ascalon Player :)

I like and dislike some of your suggestions. First of I wanna start by saying that I do also look at myself at somewhat a experienced player as i've played ascalon for quite some time now.

1. The thing where you said that the hunting should be harder and harder, well it already is. Thats why we have stamina. Most people who powerlevel does have premium account which is fairly easy to get for everyone.. So don't change anything about it as it'll only reduce players by whole lot.

You need to keep in mind that tibia is a game where people should progress really fast, this just sounds like a suggestion cause you don't have the time to powerlevel and you feel like everyon should not be able to hunt when you can't which is pretty egocentric..

2. Dungeons should not have lower experience because it was already changed before the server shut down on lavas version. Dungeons is a matter of fact a way of gaining money (which is valueable so you're wrong, ill get to that on my 3rd point)

3. Money is valueable now cause most people will trade you cc for gems/armors cause the potions does need you to get a whole bunch of money. Theres no such thing as non-valueable coins

Really, really glad seeing you here, Jenniii! :)
But I have to tell you, A LOT has changed since Fare hosted the server. Everything @DestinationSer stated above is pretty much true. Money is now actually very valuable, and I think they'll be even more valuable now, with Gaal's version.

Hey Shade, I've noticed a lot has changed since I've played Ascalon. I'm really curious what has changed and what has not. I'm excited to start playing again, yet I might not be so active as I used was since I'm currently staying in Sweden for a couple of months and when I get back to The Netherlands I need to start applying for a job so I and Muffin ( My sweet doggie ) can find a nice home :)

But I will keep an close eye on this topic to see any future updates and information! :) !

Kind regards,,,

Well, well! Hope you enjoy your stay in our lovely country. :)

@Gaal
Would be great if you add official server time(OST) to the website. It will help players from different time zones to hunt together.
Also when you announce an event you just can say 12:00 (OST), so everyone will know when to log in.
