Here's my "rough" idea that I like to share with you that is mostly targeted to newcomers and hopefully helps the future of Open-Tibia. I appreciate it if you would take off some of your time to read this and post a comment to continue the discussion.
This topic will be about OTClient, TFS and Open-Tibia, if do not know what OTClient is then I want to refer you to this place: click here!
Short discription: it is a open-source client (meaning you can add/change your own code to the source code and provide it to your players) to play open-tibia instead of the regular client made by Cipsoft. While you can play OT servers with it, it is more than that as it can be turned into a map-editor, NPC-editor, the Game mechanics can be modified, use your own interface, add new sprites with one click, just about anything is possible with OTClient and the only limitation is your imagination.
I'd like to point out a few things of my view on the future of Open-Tibia.
I see so many people in Otland that do have the potential but don't do anything with it. Well everyone can learn somehow and everyone can contribute, it's never too late! Luckily there are people who do contribute for example:
- Some implement idea's in their RPG server with C++ programming and then send a pull request on a repository
- People who answer questions properly from new people.
- publish tutorials for beginners,
- create LUA/PHP scripts on this site etc, etc
Unfortunately, there are people who just download and run their server and do not give something back in return for the hard work that other people did for them, for example they download TFS (e.g. for 8.6), a Tibia Map, Gesior AAC, install a shop and wait for people to login and then make money from donations while sitting on their lazy ass.
Why not be thankful and helpful for once and start contributing your work to the community and you wil be the one that knows: "Hey, I was helpful enough to contribute some of my work to the community and that cannot be said for all". But don't expect that things will change suddenly for Open-Tibia, it needs time to develop, I just want people to listen and think about it.

The community of "Open-Tibia"
The Open-Tibia project (a.k.a OTServ) is the original code for Open-tibia servers, TFS is based on this code but at the moment nobody commits any code on the repository (https://github.com/opentibia/server) that will fix or improve the core or update monsters/npc the map, also systems like the Revscriptsys cannot be implemented and neither will TFS if it's not finished, because there's currently no one actively developing it.
We all know that TFS is the most used distribution in Open-Tibia with its tons of scripts and support threads and that OTland is the main English-speaking Open-Tibia community,
TFS is mainly used in conjunction with the Tibia client of Cipsoft, in my eyes that blocks innovation and the essence of the word 'Open' used in the name 'Open-Tibia'. That's why I would like to open the eyes of people, so more attention will be given to OTClient and more contributions to the OTClient and TFS/Open-Tibia project, because without a community that we all form together, there would be no Open-Tibia.
OTClient in combination with TFS would practically mean that we will be totally independent on the updates of Cipsoft and its Tibia client because both are innovative projects and by making it work together we will accomplish and secure a better future for Open-Tibia.
My first idea: (if you have improvements/suggestions please post it)
I believe OTClient along with TFS should be better promoted. So people would land on a simple yet very useful splash-screen. On this page a short but motivating description what Open-Tibia actually is with a one link to a detailed information page for newcomers to get them started. There should be a download to the latest stable version of TFS and OTClient. Last but not least there should be a section somewhere on the page with links to more resources (e.g. support forum, FAQ, wiki, scripts, distributions etc if it still fits ofcourse).
Then for the people who want to go to the forum immediately, I would add a checkbox that remembers your choice to go the forum automatically next time you visit Otland.
Also I'm not sure whether we should use this existing page: http://otland.net/content/ and change it or create a new page separated from Vbulletin so it would be easier to change/add things and have more space for content.
I think this is fairly easy to make and if done right, it hopefully increases the popularity and accessibility of OTClient and Open-Tibia as whole if not a little bit by motivating and inspiring as much as possible.
